Will Blue Ox SwayPro WDH Fit V Nose Trailer
Updated 02/09/2026 | Published 02/04/2026 >
Question:
Good afternoon, I have a 8x20 V nose enclosed car hauler trailer with not much room on the tongue. Usually when it’s loaded the tongue weight is around 1,200-1,300 pounds. I’ve been pulling it okay since my old tow vehicle had air bags but my new tow vehicle 2002 Excursion does not and it sags the excursion pretty good and I like the idea of built in sway control and I’ve heard great things about the Swaypro. My question is based on the pictures do you think the brackets will fit on my trailer? If not, do you think a Curt short arm weight distribution hitch would be a better option based on the pictures? Thank you for your time!

Hey Taylor! Based on your tongue measurement you will be able to install the brackets for the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW1500. Also, I would definitely go with the SwayPro over the Curt, especially with a heavier trailer.
It looks like that is aluminum so I would make sure the ALCOM approves the use of a weight distribution hitch with this trailer before you do anything else. I would also double check the capacity on your 2002 Ford Excursion. It looks like certain models can tow that much but you may be exceeding the tongue weight capacity of the hitch/vehicle.
What kind of cars are you typically hauling around?

I replaced my Pro Pride with the Blue Ox because lining up Pro Pride in off camber campsites was becoming a hassle and weight of hitch head was getting old, as am I at 81. Blue Ox has exceeded expectations in sway control as 18 wheelers pass on freeway, and is pleasantly quicker and easier to hook up at awkward angles. Quick removal of sway bars makes things lighter to disassemble. Having towed a twenty foot race car trailer for years with a Suburban, I find it amazing that you haven’t had a weight-distributing hitch before. Get with it now, with the Blue Ox, and get the 2 and 5 sixteenths ball to go with it, given all that weight on your tongue. Your tow vehicle’s fine, but not your hitch. I tow a 25’ Airstream with a half ton GMC Sierra pickup.
