Winch is very heavy duty and well coated with zinc. Handle can be removed and inserted in the low or high speed with a push of a button. Great winch. However, the brake lever is in a bag with a few hardware parts which must be assembled to the winch. I thought the brake lever would already be assembled to the winch. The e-clip (or wave washer as the instructions call it) that holds the brake lever in place broke when trying to clip it on. I had to run to an auto parts store 10 miles away to buy a new e-clip as I was in the middle of installation. If the brake lever had already been installed I would have given the winch five stars.

These 3700 lb winches work great. Both winches were installed on my slip dock where the cables go to shore to hold slip in place. Much easier now to bring the dock in to shore when the water comes up or down in this reservoir. My lake neighbors are all jealous!

by:

Really like the product it’s heavy duty and built well going to work great for pulling My jeeps up on the car hauler just in case something breaks while Fourwheelin I have the option to use the winch. I built a nice strong mounting plate for it and works wonderful. Did not even have to use the low gearing to crank the jeep up on the car hauler

heavy duty winch, handle easy to crank.

See what our Experts say about this Fulton Trailer Winch

  • Boat Trailer Winch that Has Capacity for 18,000 lb Boat
With boat winches you generally only need 50 percent of the boats weight as the winch's weight capacity. So for a 18,000 lb boat like you have you'd need a winch with at least a 9,000 lb capacity. For that we have the Fulton XLT Powered Winch part # F500621 which has a 10,000 lb capacity and would be your best option. The strap is only 15 feet long though so you'd need to make sure you could get the boat within 15 feet from being fully on the trailer.

  • Recommended Hand Winch Weight Rating for 6000 lb Boat on EZ Loader Trailer
The capacity of each hand winch is stated with one layer of rope, cable or strap around the drum. The Fulton # F142430 you mentioned has a 3700 lb capacity, which would diminish by 10 percent each time the cable is wrapped around the drum. With the cable wrapped around three times, the capacity would be about 3000 lbs. This is our highest rated hand winch, I am not sure which Dutton-Lainson winch you are speaking of. When choosing between two winches, I would recommend always choosing...

The Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142430 referenced in your question does indeed have a drum storage capacity of 185 feet of 7/32 inch cable. The longest 7/32 inch cable we have available is the Fulton # FWC7500100 that measures 50 feet long and also includes a hook. This hand winch features a 3,700 pound weight capacity and will work really nicely for your general purpose lifting or pulling as it does include a hand brake to let you manually control release of a load...

  • Winch Recommendation for 3,190 lb Boat
The 3,200 lb 2-Speed Boat Trailer Winch with 20' Strap and Brake # 315-W3200D will be sufficient to pull in your 3,190 lb boat if your trailer has rollers on it as that will make your boat easier to move. If you have bunks then it will technically work but you'll be pushing the winch to the limit so you'll want to use a winch with a higher weight rating like this one: - 3,700 lb Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Handbrake # F142430 - Fulton Galvanized Winch Cable with...

To replace your Shelby 5480A 2-speed winch with one that can be used in the manner you specified, it sounds like you need one with a handbrake. Since you also require one with cable and at least 3,200 lbs, the closest option is the Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Handbrake - Cable Only - Zinc - 3,700 lbs # F142430. With this winch you'll also need Cable # FWC7500100.

  • How to Determine What Size Boat that a Winch Can Pull
The Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Handbrake # F142430 that you referenced has a 3,700 lbs weight capacity. The size and weight of the boat that it can pull really depends on what your boat trailer setup is like. A boat to winch size capacity is typically 2 to 1 which means that this particular winch should typically be able to pull a 7,000 lb boat. If you have good rollers and a short distance to pull then that could make the ratio 3 to 1. If you have wooden bunks...

  • Electric and Hand Winch Recommendation For 6,600 Lb Boat
I am happy to recommend a couple of winches for you. Since your boat on rollers is just over the 2:1 ratio you need a winch with a capacity of at least half the weight of your boat. For an electric winch, I recommend Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch # BDW15020 which has a 4,400 lb rating and will work really well for your application. It includes a 50' long x 1/4" (6 mm) diameter rope with a convenient hand held water proof remote. The only hand winch I recommend for the weight of your boat...

  • Solutions for Fulton T3700 Winch with Broken Cable
The current version of your Fulton T3700 is the part # F142430 which is a cable-only winch like what you have. Best options I have would be a new cable for yours that is broke like with part # FWC7500100 for a 50 foot cable or to go with a new winch that uses a strap instead like the Jif Marine part # 315-W3200D which has a similar 3,200 lb capacity. Only downside to the straps is they aren't as long as the cables since the layers add up quicker. This comes with a 20 foot long strap.

  • Recommendation for Replacement Shelby 5470A Winch with Large Drum Storage Capacity
You are correct that Shelby is no longer in business. Based on my research it looks like your Shelby 5470A is a 2,800 pound hand winch. I wasn't able to locate the drum capacity on the 5470A but the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15440 that you mentioned can store up to 30 feet of 3/8 inch cable. It does have a very similar design to your existing Shelby winch but also features a slightly higher weight capacity of 3,200 pounds. This is the largest drum capacity hand winch we have available...

  • Availability Of Repair Kit For Fulton T-3700 Winch And Option For A Replacement
Hello Todd. The 501133 repair kit for the Fulton T-3700 has been discontinued, and unfortunately, we do not offer a replacement hardware kit for this winch anymore. The only option would be to get a whole new winch. The Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer # F142430 is the winch that replaced the T3700 so that is what I recommend.

  • Winch Recommendation for 10,000 lb Boat
The best option we carry for a 10,000 lb boat is the Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142430 which has a 3,700 lb capacity with Cable # FWC7500100. The winch to boat size capacity is 2-to-1 though it can also be 3-to-1 if you have really good rollers and are not using the winch for much distance. So if you have those conditions this winch will be able to pull a 10,000 lb boat. I have added a link to a video review of this winch for you to take a look at.

  • Winch Needed for Moving Boat and Trailer to Water from Lakefront Property
I recommend using the Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142430 for your application. It features a handbrake and 2 speeds; one for pulling the line in quicker and one for more of a mechanical advantage. The winch has a Z-Max 600 zinc finish which provides superior corrosion resistance and a 600-hour salt spray rating. • Recommend Hand Winch To Winch a 21.5 Foot 4,000 lb Boat
The guideline when selecting a winch is to weigh the boat when it is fully loaded and ready to travel with supplies, gas, etc. Then, take the gross weight and divide by 1.5, which will tell you the capacity winch you will need. You will want to weigh your boat with it loaded like you were going on a boat outing. If you are trying to winch the boat without submerging the trailer and not getting your bunks wet, this can add more strain to the winch. If you are doing so, you would want to...

For a similar hand winch that can use 5/16 inch cable I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14825. • Recommended Boat Trailer Winch For 5,000 lb Boat
We can get you set up with a good replacement for your 2,600 lb Fulton winch, but let's start with what you asked in regards to the strap vs. the cable, with the latter being the better choice. A strap is fine but there is a risk of fraying or tearing, which doesn't exist with the use of a cable, so I do recommend a winch and cable set up. In regards to the winch itself, winch capacity is at least 2-to-1, so if your boat weighs over 5,000 lbs, it is understandable why your 2,600 lb winch...

  • Recommended Boat Trailer Winch for 9,000 lb Boat
Thank you for all that information and while I can understand not wanting to go with an electric winch for a boat trailer, the issue is the weight of your boat as well as the fact you are using bunks and have a steep incline. Even if you had a very short winching distance without much incline and were using rollers, the hand winch that has the most capacity, the 3,700 lb Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Handbrake # F142430, would be pushing it because each layer of the...

Unfortunately there is no way that a one ton winch like the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Hex Drive Handle - 2,000 lbs # DL11004 will work to pull that one tone tree up a 25 foot hill with 28 degree slope. Winches have the ability to pull their listed load on level ground. Your inline will add just over 50% so you'd multiply the capacity by about 1.86 according to the attached article. • Brake Winch Recommendation for Trailer with Roller Bunks to Feed Boat Out Onto Water
Your best option would be a winch that can be fed out when you are launching your boat so that you don't have to just let it free wheel and take off in to the water by itself. For that the Fulton hand winch part # F142430 that has a hand brake would be a fantastic option. It would let you feed the winch out as needed in a controlled manner and won't require you to swap out the rollers of your trailer for bunks. For a cable you'd then want the part # FWC7500100.
