Are these good for a saltwater boat trailer or should I specifically look for galvanized?

Hey Dave, for a saltwater boat trailer, powder-coated wheels wouldn't be my first choice, but they can still last quite a while if you're good about rinsing them thoroughly after each launch and sealing any chips or cracks in the finish as soon as they appear. Saltwater is tough on any steel wheel once the protective coating is compromised.

If you're specifically looking for the best corrosion resistance for a trailer that sees saltwater regularly, I'd actually recommend aluminum wheels. They have the best corrosion resistance, look great, and you don't have to deal with the white oxidation that galvanized wheels tend to develop over time.

Here's how I'd rank the options in the ST205/75R14 size:

Best: Aluminum Wheel - # KE56JV
Better: Galvanized Wheel - # KE85EV
Good: Powder-Coated Wheel - # KE65EV

The aluminum wheels do cost a little more upfront, but in my experience they're well worth the investment for a saltwater trailer because they hold up so well and maintain their appearance for years.

By the way, what kind of boat are you towing? My buddy just picked up a new pontoon, and we went through this same process because his trailer came with painted steel wheels that already had a few paint chips on the edges.
