Video Transcript for Easy Swivel Trailer Jack Installation

Today we are going to install Dutton-Lainsons pull pin easy swivel trailer jack part number DL22800. On a typical application we are going to simply clamp this jack on to the side of the frame. It would be a pretty easy install. However, on this trailer we have a different type of frame on it where it is a little bit angled. Going towards the back of our trailer our frame is thicker, going toward the coupler it is a little bit thinner. I am going to do a couple of modifications to the installation of this. It will look pretty good when we are done with it. The original jack was bolted on the location right here which is pretty close to the coupler and it was not working all that great. We are going to replace it with a heavier jack but, we come to find out when we install it in its original spot it is going to take up a lot of room no matter how you situate it, it will take up a lot of room even when you bolt it in place. 00:46

I thought we would move it down here but, still the wheel takes up a lot of space if you make a sharp left hand turn you could possibly put this into the bumper so that is not a good idea either. Plus we do not want to cover up the information sticker on the side of the frame. So we decided to come up with a different idea and actually install it on the inside of the frame. A couple benefits of that is one, it is not sticking out all the time so it takes less room. The jack is a little bit closer to the center line too so it gives it a little bit better leverage on the outside of the frame. What is going to happen is on the side closest to the coupler we are going to clamp it in place in a conventional way. On the back side we are going to clamp it in place too but we run out of room with the frame being in the way so we are going to drill a hole through the frame and come up with a spacer to take up the room in between. 01:34

We will clamp the edge closest to the coupler first. Take the other side of the clamp and put a lock washer and nut on there and just run it down and do the same thing on the bottom half. Put that through. Now remember that the frame gets a little bit narrow at the front so we are going to use that to our advantage. We are going to snug this plate down as close as possible and then we are just going to push it back. Make sure the bolts are completely straight then we will put the bracket on the other side. Then we will take our bracket here and use the second hole down. Line up the bracket to find the center. We are going to punch and drill out our hole and then we can start installing our hardware. You see this gap we have when we drilled the hole through the frame and when we tighten it down we do not want to crush the frame so we are going to use a spacer to go in between here. You can do that with over sized nuts and some washers possibly. In this case we actually found a piece of tube stock to fit perfect inside there. Then we just install the rest of our hardware. Now we just tighten it down. When you tighten these down tighten them evenly on both sides. Now the jack is installed. Lets make it a little nicer. What we are going to do is take a sawzall and cut off our excess threads that we really do not need. Our jack is installed. Lets cover the operation of it. Here we have the jack in the down position. Just pull this handle and that is in its traveling position so we will use it to pick up the trailer. We are going to put it down. When it is up in the air like this you might want to put your foot down to help keep it from spinning. Then we just crank it up and you can roll the trailer around as you need to. This jack also has a 1,500 pound tongue weight capacity. There you have it for the pull pin easy swivel trailer jack, part number DL22800.

I received the order the next day and was surprised the item #dl22800 was made in the usa , ( real good ). it looks well built with thick metal and nice coating to prevent rust and it jacks up and down flawlessly. I don't know if the wheel is solid or not but it looks like it should last as long as the jack itself. 488525

Installs easily, folds up easily and quickly. Wheel rolls freely. I have not towed the trailer since installation to see how well it travels yet. 16551

Do you have a question about this Trailer Jack?

  • Trailer Jack Recommendation with Rubber Wheels for Manueverability
  • All of the jacks we sell that have wheel casters like the part # DL22800 that you referenced will have a hard plastic like wheel except for the Trailer Valet part # STC-V211. This has rubber wheels and a crank that allows you to roll the wheels of the jack and your trailer to easily maneuver it. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

  • Swivel Trailer Jack with a Wheel for a 2007 Viking Pop-up Camper
  • The Fulton jack, # F1411300301, is a weld-on application and you will need mounting bracket # P9012-00. The mounting bracket is the part that gets welded to the trailer frame. Any welding should be done by a qualified professional welder. It can be mounted on the trailer near the coupler (where the tongue weight is lowest) anywhere you have space. A 1500 pound capacity can handle a tongue weight of 1500 pounds. It is very unlikely that any pop-up camper will have a tongue weight that...

  • Trailer Jack Replacement Recommendation for a 6,000 lb Snowmobile Trailer
  • At capacity your trailer will weigh 6,000 lbs plus the weight of your trailer. You will need to pick a jack that can safely handle the maximum tongue weight that your trailer will see. Tongue weight is usually 10-15 percent of the total weight of the trailer. So if you use 6,000 lbs as the total weight of the trailer you would have a tongue weight of 600-900 lbs. The Dutton-Lainson Trailer Jack # DL22800 that you referenced has a capacity of 1,500 lbs. Although this seems to be a lot...

  • We have several options for a bolt on swivel jack for your trailer with 2 by 5 inch frame (see link). I would recommend the Pull Pin, Easy Swivel Trailer Jack with 8 inch Wheel - Sidewind - 1,500 lbs. by Dutton-Lainson, item # DL22800, for your trailer if the 1500 pound capacity is sufficient for your boat and trailer. These jacks are high quality and designed to fit square tongues up to 3 x 5 inches. The Bulldog Round, Snap-Ring Swivel Jack - Bolt On - Topwind - 10 inch Lift - 2,000...

  • Trailer Stuck to Truck and Jack Wont Crank
  • Usually, the jaw on the underside of a trailer coupler can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the nut on the underside of the jaw. If you loosen the jaw slightly, you should be able to get the coupler to come off the trailer ball. Once you get the coupler off the ball, lubricate it to make sure the latching mechanism operates smoothly. I like using the spray lithium grease. You'll want to make sure that you're using the correct size trailer ball for the coupler you're using. The...

  • Will the Easy Swivel Trailer Jack # DL22800 Install Around a 3 x 5 boat Trailer Tongue
  • Yes, you are correct. As long as your trailer frame is 3 inches wide across that top and 5 inches tall the Easy Swivel Trailer Jack, # DL22800, will fit on your trailer without drilling. I have posted a photo of a jack with the same mount installed on a 2 inch wide by 4 inch tall trailer frame, for you to reference. • Corrosion Resistant Trailer Jack for a Trailer with 2 Inch by 4 Inch Frame
  • I think the best choice is going to be a bolt-on Dutton-Lainson jack with a Zinc plated yellow chromate TUFFPLATE finish. If your trailer has a channel tongue, jack # DL22300 fits up to a 3 x 5 inch frame. If you have a square tongue use # DL22800. The finish on these jacks is very corrosion resistant. An aluminum jack that will fit your frame size is not available.

  • Replacement Jack Handle for 1,000 Pound Dutton Lainson Trailer Jack
  • We do carry replacement handles for Dutton Lainson jacks made after 1996. For the 1,000 pound side wind jacks like # DL22560 you will need replacement handle # DL22446. But it sounds like you may need to replace the gears as well. If a gear stripped out or broke then for replacement gears for the same jack use # DL22437. If the handle or gears broke due to being overloaded then I recommend going with a higher capacity jack. For example jack # DL22800 is rated for 1,500 pounds. I have...
