What Is a Good Replacement for the Fulton Magnum Tongue Jack on My 2001 Ranger 520VZ Trailer?
Updated 06/11/2026 | Published 06/09/2026 >
Question:
I need to replace a Fulton Magnum Series boat trailer tongue jack. The plate on the trailer has 4 bolts that dont go thru the trailer frame, maybe welded, the round plate on the inner portion has a single nut on it. This jack came on my 2001 Ranger 520VZ trailer .

Hello Daryl,
I recommend swapping out your old Fulton Magnum jack for the Dutton-Lainson Easy Swivel Trailer Jack # DL22800, and it will be a great fit for your 2001 Ranger boat trailer.
Before removing the Fulton jack, make sure the trailer is coupled to your tow vehicle or that the trailer tongue is safely supported with jack stands. The Fulton Magnum jacks used on many Ranger trailers typically mount to a welded bracket on the trailer tongue. Once the tongue is supported, raise the jack enough to take any weight off the mounting hardware. You can then remove the large retaining nut from the round swivel plate and slide the jack assembly out of the welded bracket. Depending on the exact version of the Fulton Magnum, you may need to rotate the jack slightly as you pull it free.
Once the old jack is removed, inspect the welded bracket and make sure there are no obstructions where the new jack will be mounted. The nice thing about the Dutton-Lainson # DL22800 is that it includes a clamp-on bracket that bolts around the trailer frame, so you won't need to reuse the original Fulton mounting bracket. Simply position the new bracket on the tongue, tighten the mounting hardware around the frame, and install the new jack according to the included instructions.
The # DL22800 has a 1,500-pound lift capacity and an 8-inch wheel, making it a solid replacement option for your Ranger trailer.
Do you do much tournament fishing? I'm heading to Mark Twain Lake here in Missouri for a bass tournament this Saturday. We usually have around 40 boats, and I'm hoping to do a little better than my last 11th-place finish. I'm also hoping the buffalo gnats decide to leave us alone this weekend!

I have the same trailer, the jack will straddle the frame perfectly just behind your current plate, mounting in front of it will give you swing issues when you go to the travel position.

I replaced my boat trailer (Yacht Club / 19' Alumacraft Boat) jack with the 1500 lb jack and have ZERO negative comments. As matter of fact, I replaced my ATV trailers also, I liked the action so well!! I recommend it HIGHLY!! Just make sure to support trailer frame (wheels Chocked also) before attempting. Auto frame stands work perfectly. I removed old and placed new in same position. All mounting hardware was included.

OK thanks for the detailed answer but I do have one question. Do I mount the new jack bracket over the old Fulton mounting bracket? I ask this because where the jack is mounted it is on the side rail of the trailer not the tongue. I do still fish tournaments but not as much as I used to, started in the 90"s. I really only do team tournament now and havent fish in one this year because of boat issues. Here is the link. https://www.cattteamtrail.com/
