Dutton Lainson Swivel Tongue Jack

You'll Need More than Just Zinc to Fight Rust

The simple truth is that salt can be highly corrosive to metal when exposure lasts for an extended period of time. So, the more you tow around it, the more you need to protect your trailer from it.

An in use photo of Dutton-Lainson's black trailer jack with a TUFFPLATE zinc finish on the inner tube

This Dutton-Lainson jack offers 2 layers of corrosion protection. The inner tubing has Dutton-Lainson's specially formulated TUFFPLATE, which is comprised of a clear zinc finish, chromate, and a sealant. On the outer tubing, there's a matte black powder coat finish putting another barrier between the jack's good looks and anything that can contribute to rust, like freshwater or even saltwater exposure.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. Zinc plating typically begins to deteriorate after about 100 hours. Dacromet usually lasts for around 300 to 400 hours. Dutton-Lainson's TUFFPLATE finish lasted nearly 500 hours in the salt spray test before the first appearance of rust (about 30% longer than a standard powder coat finish). As for the first appearance of white corrosion, it performed about as well as typical zinc finishes.

The environment this test creates is much harsher than anything you'll ever experience in your journeys, but it provides a testament to how well this jack resists rust and corrosion.

How to Determine the Lift Capacity You Need in a Jack

A trailer jack lifts your trailer tongue high enough to allow you to couple it with your vehicle. Usually, your tongue weight is about 10-15% of your gross trailer weight. For example, a 10,000-lb trailer has a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs. For this to work, you'd need a jack strong enough to lift a static load of no less than 1,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, this should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.

it works very good. No problems. Im glad I upgraded to the taller jack. Now, all the water inside the boat runs our quick. This jack seems to be sturdier than the standard quality. Id buy it again.

by:

what I like most about this jack is I push my boat around by hand alot in my boat shed.I bought this jack because my previous jack the wheel would not easily change direction I was constantly directing it with my foot. This jack will easily move towards the direction I am pushing no more sore toes.

by:

I just installed it and have not actually used it yet, but it looks to be extremely solid and well-made and I really appreciate the extended jacking height and the two ZR fittings to allow easy grazing.
The three year warranty, also speaks volumes about the confidence they have in this product
Glad I spent a little extra for this quality product and I think it's going to make life much much easier jacking about up and moving around

by:

Very well built jack and looks great too. Installation was a breeze. Your tracking information from the time of my order to the time it was delivered was awesome! Thank you for such great service

by:

I was originally trying to find something that would bolt upto the Shelby welded bracket. I'm so glad I went with this unit instead. It's heavy duty, large wheel for easy maneuvers, greese fittings, easy up like butta! The black color is different and goes well with my red Stingray. The customer service is over the top!

by:

I love this jack! I bought it for my 1984 Ski Nautique single axle trailer. Works great and looks good.

by:

It appears to be much better constructed that the one that is on my trailer.

by:

Very nice jack. Seems like it’s well made. Mounting was easy. When the package arrived the mounting hardware was missing, etrailer immediately sent replacement mounting hardware and I got it in 2 days. As usual, excellent customer service from etrailer.

by:

This jack is solid as a rock. Totally recommended. I did remove the wheel and just screwed the bolt back into the bottom of the tube for better clearance coming and going into steep driveways.

Jack still working as well as when new. Just greased it for the first time recently. Great product! I’d recommend it again.

by:

This trailer jack is just what I needed. The range is fantastic, the handle is comfortable and raising and lowering the boat trailer has never been easier

by:

I bent my boat trailer jack accidentally and needed a new one. So etrailer was there for me with this very nice Dutton-Lainson version similar to the one I had. Works great, very smooth gearing, and it looks good on my boat trailer too.

by:

The trailer jack is perfect! The price was reasonable and the product is quality. The jack shipped the day I ordered it and I had it in 3 days. It only took me 30 minutes to put it on my trailer. The 8" wheel makes moving my trailer a breeze. I would definitely recommend Etrailers!

by:

The new design works great with my 2002 boat trailer. Nice that their design team keeps in mind older product replacement!

by:

As described. Was looking for something heavy duty and this worked!

by:

Not a well known name. Definitely worth the money I paid for it. Very, very solid. I'd buy another without a moments hesitation if I ever need another.

by:

Excellet service...they were out of stock for the item I ordered (which I knew as was clear on the website) but emailed me personally to offer me alternatives immediately from stock. That is above and beyond...thank you.

  • Recommended Replacement Bolt-On Trailer Jack with 1500-lb Capacity and 11" Bracket Height
I have a solution for you, but the bracket height of the Dutton-Lainson Round Trailer Jack # DL22210 has a bracket height of 16-5/8", so it would not be short enough to be used on your trailer. I recommend usinig the Fulton F2 Swing-Up Trailer Jack # F1413020134 which has an adjustable bracket that when at its lowest setting is approximately 11" from the ground to the center of the bracket. This is a dual wheel, swiveling jack that can provide up to 10" of lift and has a 1600-lbs capacity....

  • Snap Ring Swivel Jack for a Trailer that Already has a Jack Mount
Jack # DL22210 isn't a snap ring jack but we do have other options that will likely work with your existing mount such as # FTJ120W0301. The hole spacing for the pull pin is 3 inches apart on center. I have linked a video review of this jack for you.

I do have an option for you but I am not aware or any side mount trailer jacks similar to the Ultimate Trailer Jack part # 322-RDJ-2K in regards to how the mounting bracket can be adjusted. However, the majority of cases where the Ultimate Trailer Jack is used it is because of limited ground clearance. Therefore, I recommend using the Dutton-Lainson Round Swivel Jack w/ 2" Wide Wheel - Sidewind - 12" Lift - 1,500 lbs # DL22210. The reason I recommend the above is because there is very...

  • Recommended Hand Crank Trailer Winch and Jack for 6K Boat
The general rule we use for selecting a boat trailer winch is 2:1 which means for a 6,000 lb boat we'd recommend a 3,000 lb winch. The Jif Marine 2-Speed Trailer Winch part # 315-W3200D is a great option for this rated at 3,200 lbs. It comes with a strap and clevis hook as well, pre-installed. It also has a two-speed operation, one for speed and one for power. You'd simply un-bolt the the old winch, drill a few holes for the new pattern, then bolt the new one in place. The Dutton-Lainson Round Swivel Jack # DL22210 you asked about will fit trailer frames that are 3" x 5" but for a salt water environment there are better options. With that said the jack only needs to take care of a little more than the tongue weight really. Hi Ray, Without the serial number to look up the axle the only way to determine the correct replacement hubs would be to see if the face of the hubs has the part number stamped into them or to take some measurements. If you have to measure then we you'll need to use a digital caliper # PTW80157 to measure points B, C, and D from the diagram below. Then we just need to know the wheel bolt pattern to make sure the new hubs match up to the wheels.
