Here's a picture of replacement of the boat winch that I ordered. I replaced it with Ace from a smaller winch, took about a half hour to replace and put the new one on.

by:

The winch is well built and a great replacement for my original winch.

by:

great product
. built strong

by:

Bought this to replace an Attwood winch that was rated for 2000 lbs. The Attwood winch required both hands to trailer my heavy 17' fiberglass boat and the handle was stripping out.

Mounted the Dutton-Lainson 2 speed winch in its place planning on having to use the 17.3:1 speed to for the final couple of feet. I was able to winch the the boat all the way 5.4:1 speed with a single hand plus I wasn't tired.

The winch is very solid and well constructed. Unlike the Attwood junk, the gears are welded and not riveted. Well worth the invested and its made in the USA.

by:

Great price for the best pull winches on the market. Shipping was extremely quick. Wouldn’t hesitate to order again!

by:

Really nice heavy duty unit. Should be a really solid performer for years to come. Application is a saltwater fishing boat.

I had to touch up one of the attachment points for the handle with a flat file so that the handle would slide over it.

The unit is heavy and the shipping box was not adequate for the weight. Box was beat to crap and was lucky it made it and was not damaged. That is a big issue that needs to be addressed.

Otherwise all is good. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Nice H/D winch. Replacing my 12 year old D/L winch.
Spring catch not engaging consistantly anymore and after the stitching in the strap pulling out and launching my 25' rig on the concrete boat ramp it is time for new stuff. This winch with new 5/16" s.s. wire rope cable and forged s.s. hook should eliminate that nightmare from happening again. USA made! Etrailer has the best commun. and service PERIOD. Thanks K.

Hand winch is strong, larger than expected, and built pretty heavy duty. One thing to note, the pawl (clicker) is only one sided, so it won't hold the load when letting cable out. It would be nice if it had an extra little tab to allow cranking in, cranking out, and neutral (line pull out) positions.

Also, I'm new to winches, but kind of wish it had a clutch on the cable to keep tension on the cable spool. When nothing is on the line, the tension on the spool unravels, causing the cable go all over the place, the first time i used it, I slightly pinched the cable (I had half the line payed out, and the slack on that part got bunched up when I started pulling in)

I went with a cable instead of strap so that I could use a snatch block pulley if i ever needed extra power, and also ordered a cable twice as long as what I needed to allow for looping back (using it on a utility/car trailer)

Looking back I should have went with the shorter cable so that the line would be all the way out when starting to winch. I might cut down the cable to a shorter length and eventually replace it with a strap. Another drawback i found with the cable is that it tends to wander all over the drum back over itself if you aren't careful causing a tangled mess, but I guess that happens on the power winches too.

Another accessory I wish they had was a heavy waterproof drawstring bag to slip over the winch when not in use. I made a removable pedestal using 2" receiver tube, so I plan to keep the winch indoors. but I really should grease up the cable and it would be nice to have a cover. (Might try to make a bag or have one made)

Overall I'm satisfied and the winch itself more than met my expectations. I was able to easily pull a 2003 Grand Cherokee up the ramps onto my trailer with one hand and single line.

This was my 1st purchase from etrailer and shopping with them has been great. I'm in the process of building a ramp to load and unload a 22' pontoon boat from water to shore to keep the toons looking good and for winter storage. I've made numerous phone calls with questions on different products to use and have received excellent help with professional guidance on this project.
So far I've gotten a winch, 6 sets of roller bunks and 12 galv. vee- brackets to support wooden bunks. All of this has arrived in a timely manner and the cost with free shipping is better then I could buy at any marine store. Some of these products aren't even stocked in this area. Will start construction on this soon and hope to post results when finished . Thanks to etrailer for their help.

Jerry,Thank you for your review. If you need a left hand winch I would recommend part #DL15403. This winch still features 2 speeds with direct drive and has a capacity of 2,500 lbs.

by:

Bolted right on my 2004 24' Heritage Boat trailer. It pulls my 24' LSR Regal boat onto trailer with no problems, love the 2 speed. Durable and heavy duty. Would buy again. Makes it easier loading my boat, as I don't have to back the trailer in so far, this monster pulls the boat onto the bunks with ease.

by:

Perfect for what we use them for and to be honest we use them in an unconventional way. Our fleet of 94 flat bottom Kann boats have these mounted as well at the DL-15403 winches (matching 2500 lbs left side handle) up by the bow of the boat that helps us tie onto a barge or any other piece of marine equipment we may be trying to move at the time. Thy hold up to stress that we put them to as they are reeled out and winched up several times a day. I would recommend these to everyone!

by:

I haven't installed it yet, but it seems to be a well-made winch. Definitely heavy duty. I will be replacing my 20-year-old winch with it. I'm hoping the low gear will alleviate some of the problems my 65-year-old back has developed.

by:

These are great winches with lots of pulling power the 2 speed feature is excellent. I have a drill attachment that fits on the winch handle shaft making it a ease to raise my fish houe. Fast shipping and excellent customer service. Thanks etrailer.

by:

This two-speed winch is very well built and appears to be very durable. The mechanisms operate easily. I am replacing a lower capacity, single speed DL boat winch that has served me well … I will be better able to wind up my Inboard Outboard fishing/ski boat with this more versatile winch. It was very easy to mount without changing anything on the trailer. I am grateful for excellent service etrailer provided in the ordering and shipping processes. Thanks!

by:

Installed this on my utility trailer for pulling items up the ramps. Quick change handle for two speed operation is great feature. Heavy loads switch to low speed.

by:

The delivery time from etrailer was outstanding. The winch design appears to be flawless with one slight exception. The handle spring lock design for moving the handle from one gear ratio to the other might not handle the vibration of a rough road. With the possibility of it vibrating off of the shaft while in transit will definitely ruin someone's day. The quick answer to this issue would be to store the handle in the vehicle until ready for use. Problem solved.

by:

So far seems like a sturdy and suitable replacement for my old boat trailer winch. I only needed 1800# capacity, but learned that at the time the 2500# model cost less than either the 1800# or 2000#. I like the two-speed operation. Received promptly as expected.

by:

In my opinion it’s the only winch left on the market that is built with any strength. I tried some Chinese ones that claimed to be 2500# - complete garbage. The Dutton Lainson is serious. The only downside is it’s almost too strong - I have to be careful because this winch is so strong I feel it could start to pull the bow eye out of my boat.

by:

Excellent service,fair prices.

by:

I ordered wrong size so I have to return it. Nicky was so efficient processing returns. Walk me through step by step. A+ and will highly recommend etrailer.com to other clients. Shipment was super fast and accurate. No damages on the item. Great job!

by:

Winch works great, cable kinks to easy so I upgraded.

I've attached an article that you should take a look at to help you find the correct winch. You want to choose a winch that will have the appropriate weight capacity for your boat. • Best Electric Boat Trailer Winch and How to Determine Capacity
I would be happy to help you! When it comes to choosing an electric winch or any winch for a boat trailer, there are a few general rules we can use. The boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally 2 to 1. With good rollers and short winching distances, the ration can increase to 3 to 1 and with wooden bunks and long winching distances, you will want to reduce the capacity to 1 to 1. Since you have plastic sides instead of carpet you will probably be in the 2 to 1 range. I recommend the Dutton-Lainson...
