No, if you:

  • Own a tall truck and don't want to have to waste time and effort fully cranking the jack
  • Would like to avoid having to do any messy and time-consuming maintenance
  • Want a finish that will last

My trailer weighs around 2500 and my local dealer sold me one rated for "2000 lbs" and said it would be fine. After it broke I discovered a very tiny etching on the jack that said 1000 lbs. For the SAME price I got a 5000 lb Bulldog jack and it works GREAT! My future trailer needs will be purchased here. 335551

As received, the jack handle is toward the tow vehicle when mounted. This seemed backwards to me so I disassembled the jack to change the position of the handle to the rear. I found metal shavings in the grease on the inside surface of the inner tube and a very rough surface on the screw threads. I had to remove the screw from the tube nut to clean it and then clean inner surface of the tube. With new grease, the jack now operates smoothly but I have to believe that the jack would have been damaged if I had not discovered the shavings and corrected the problem. 126373

Mike , it looks like this will mount on three different directions. are the three holes not the same distance apart?
-- comment by: Dan C - 05/11/2014

The holes are the same distance apart, but the jack tubes are not centered on the plate. An a-frame jack will only fit into the mount on the trailer one way. On this jack, Bulldog part # BD1700100317
Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack - Sidewind - 15" Lift - 5,000 lbs

, the handle will typically face forward. In rare cases, the trailer builder will orient the mounting plate differently.

This product performs great. Easy to use and easy to install. I had a battery jack lift and the gearing started to fail and after several attempts to fix it I replaced it. I looked for a through tongue jack lift that would be mighty enough for my work trailer. This jack met the statistics and has performed beautifully. One suggestion I would add though if the manufacturer could include new bolts, nuts and washers to mount the jack. I struggled a little to get the old bolts out without breaking them. I got them out and reused them, but it would've been nice to have it all shinny and nice. 305395

Hi there, thanks for reaching out to me. The trailer jack is still working great. It is still easy to lift the tongue of my 16 enclosed trailer with the crank handle. Still a great purchase..

Perfect replacement for the electric jack that failed on me. Side wind handle is really easy to use even with a load on the trailer. I had planned to use the foot off my old jack but it won't fit due to a small groove in the new jack tube. I will find a way to make it work via big hammer. 240004

I purchased this to replace a trailer jack that had broken when I was packing up to leave my campsite. I had to ask the campground's maintenance dept to help jack my trailer up and onto my pickup so I needed a replacement jack quick in order to continue to tow the trailer on our next trip. I was happy to find what I needed at etrailer. The gray color matched my trailer tongue and supported more than enough weight. I also needed a side handle as the top handle was in the way of my propane tanks. The install was quick and the jack works great so far. Highly recommend it! 431609

Ask the Experts about this Bulldog Trailer Jack

  • Trailer Jack to Avoid Tailgate Clearance Issues
There are a few solutions for your tailgate to clear the jack on your trailer. I recommend to use a longer ball mount like # D-26, that would move the trailer back further away from the truck and give you clearance you need. If you know what size the hitch on your vehicle is, the rise or drop of the ball mount for your trailer, if you're using weight distribution or not, and the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole I can make the best recommendation...

  • Mounting Hole Size for A-Frame Trailer Jacks
The mounting hole dimensions of A-frame jacks are a standard 3 inches apart on center, so you will need to weld your new jack on. I highly recommend the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack # BD1700100317, which has a 5,000 lb capacity and will give you 15" of lift. It has an outer tube diameter of 2-1/4" and sidewind handle; for a footplate you would want # BD018564. This jack has been highly praised by our customers, with nearly 200 reviews it has an average close to 5 out of 5 stars. I've added...

  • Will a 5,000 lb Trailer Jack be Easier to Crank than a 2,000 lb Jack
A higher capacity a-frame jack is going to be easier to crank than a lower capacity jack at the same weight. So what that means is that the Bulldog jack part # BD1700100317 that you referenced is going to be an easier to crank jack than what you currently have. • Mounting Bolt Pattern of the Bulldog A-Frame Jack and is Hardware Included
The bolt holes on the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack, item # BD1700100317, triangle mounting flange are 3 inches from center of one hole to the center of the next hole. They are equally spaced apart and they are elongated for easier installation. A-Frame jacks are all the same size and have the same bolt-pattern. The manufacturers did this so they could simplify the manufacturing process for both bolt-on and weld-on A-frame jacks. The jack can be bolted on, hardware not included, or...

  • Can Holes be Drilled to Add A-Frame Jack to Trailer
Yes, you can drill holes to add an A-frame jack to your pop-up camper if your current jack is getting in the way of your anti-sway bars. You will need to have a mounting plate to of some sort to drill into as opposed to drilling into the frame of your trailer. If you do not have one you would need to have a welder add one to the front of your trailer's A-frame and you could then add an A-frame jack! You could then add an electric A-frame jack like the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer...
