Video Transcript for Bulldog Trailer Jack BD1700100317 Review

Today, we're going to review part number BD1700100317. This is the Bulldog Round A-Frame Jack with the Sidewind Handle and a 5000-pound weight capacity. This Bulldog Jack is ideal for multiple agricultural and commercial applications. This standard A-Frame Jack is a dependable jack which is recognized as an industry standard for a lot of the agricultural and commercial applications. They do use precision fitted parts which will provide exceptional stability and reliability. The mounting bracket which is the triangular piece right here can be welded on or can be bolted on using the three holes.

Now, the holes are 3 inches center to center which is the industry standard for the A-Frame Jacks. The sidewind handle has a smooth ergonomic design for easy cranking and also the outer and the inner tube are painted gray. Now, the footplate and the wheel caster assembly for the bottom which connects to the bottom of the jack is sold separately and if you pull up the product page for this part number usually to the right of the page, it will list the related products and it should show the footplate and the wheel caster assembly. Now, I do want to give you some measurements on this. The clearance which should be measured from the mounting bracket to the top of the jack will measure 14-3/4 inches for the clearance height.

Now, this jack is in the fully retracted position so the retracted height would be from the bottom of the jack to the mounting bracket, and that would measure 8.6 inches. Now, I do want to give you the extended height so the safe time, I pull another exact same jack and crank it up. Here it is in the fully extended position, so if we measure from the bottom to the mounting, it would be 23.6 inches. So to get the lift, if you would take the extended dimension of 23.6 and subtract the retracted dimension of 8.6, that will leave you with a lift of 15 inches so the maximum lift on this jack would be 15 inches. The inner tube is 2 inches in diameter.

The outer tube is 2-1/4 inches. The handle radius which is this measurement right here would measure 6.6 inches. Again, this jack has a lift capacity of 5000 pounds and it does come with a limited five-year warranty. And that should do it for our review on part number BD1700100317.

eTrailer, I can't say enough about how impressed I am with the product selection, reviews, education gained through your videos, and service. I am very impressed and you've gained a new customer who will be back as my needs dictate. Your shipping time was amazing and for someone who is accustomed to free 1-2 day shipping times from another online retailer that sounds like Parmesan.com, you kept your word, at no additional cost, and had the product to me as promised. Very, very impressed - Wow! Thank You! I will hail your name at the marina should I find anyone in need of your product line... Okay, now on to the Bulldog 5000 lb Jack. I did not need the entire 5000 lb support as I am replacing a Bulldog 2000 lb jack - but for the eTrailer price, how could I go wrong? This jack feels a bit more stout than my previous jack and based upon the specs and product review provided by eTrailer, I knew that this one would fit my trailer better than the previous version. In particular, the retraction and extension information. I had it installed within 15 minutes and used both the lower support plate and detachable foot plate which were also provided by eTrailer. Keep up the great work! 191736

I purchased this to replace a trailer jack that had broken when I was packing up to leave my campsite. I had to ask the campground's maintenance dept to help jack my trailer up and onto my pickup so I needed a replacement jack quick in order to continue to tow the trailer on our next trip. I was happy to find what I needed at etrailer. The gray color matched my trailer tongue and supported more than enough weight. I also needed a side handle as the top handle was in the way of my propane tanks. The install was quick and the jack works great so far. Highly recommend it! 431609

Not much to say-its a tongue jack. Direct replacement, and works as advertised. Shipping was fast though, that's good. 100336

Has it been a year already?? Wow. Bulldogs a good boy, hes doing exactly what I expected of him holding the front of my trailer up! Really, the crank handle still moves smoothly, the leg is still arrow straight and iron strong. No complaints!

Product got here immediately. Easy to install. Works great!! I realized I've been burning way too many calories cranking with my old jack for way too long! My kids can even operate this jack. Thank you! 225444

As received, the jack handle is toward the tow vehicle when mounted. This seemed backwards to me so I disassembled the jack to change the position of the handle to the rear. I found metal shavings in the grease on the inside surface of the inner tube and a very rough surface on the screw threads. I had to remove the screw from the tube nut to clean it and then clean inner surface of the tube. With new grease, the jack now operates smoothly but I have to believe that the jack would have been damaged if I had not discovered the shavings and corrected the problem. 126373

Mike , it looks like this will mount on three different directions. are the three holes not the same distance apart?

The holes are the same distance apart, but the jack tubes are not centered on the plate. An a-frame jack will only fit into the mount on the trailer one way. On this jack, Bulldog part # BD1700100317
Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack - Sidewind - 15" Lift - 5,000 lbs

, the handle will typically face forward. In rare cases, the trailer builder will orient the mounting plate differently.

I purchased this to replace an electronic jack for two reasons, one i was a little hesitant about trying to install an electric one and two someone told me the electric ones werent worth it. Boy am i happy. This thing was a breeze to install. Took about ten minutes for a mechanically challenged person. Used two jacks to lift the front of the trailer and unscrewed three screws - pulled out electronic jack and replaced with the Bulldog and tightened three screws and done. Piece of cake. Even better - etrailer upgraded me for free to 3 day shipping and i got the jack about a week before i expected. Great customer service. 55784

This jack is shorter from the attachment to the bottom which will allow the easy use of the 6" wheel that I purchased from eTrailer. The jack runs smoothly both up and down. Installation took only about 5 minutes. Removed the three bolts holding the old one and removed the jack, replaced with the Bulldog jack and tightened the bolts. This has a rating for 5000 lbs, which is far more than will ever be needed with this utility trailer. I expect a long life for this unit. eTrailer does a great job showing the product and explaining how to install/use. Shipping was only a few days. I will buy again from eTrailer. 242538

This product performs great. Easy to use and easy to install. I had a battery jack lift and the gearing started to fail and after several attempts to fix it I replaced it. I looked for a through tongue jack lift that would be mighty enough for my work trailer. This jack met the statistics and has performed beautifully. One suggestion I would add though if the manufacturer could include new bolts, nuts and washers to mount the jack. I struggled a little to get the old bolts out without breaking them. I got them out and reused them, but it would've been nice to have it all shinny and nice. 305395

Hi there, thanks for reaching out to me. The trailer jack is still working great. It is still easy to lift the tongue of my 16 enclosed trailer with the crank handle. Still a great purchase..

I was having issues with my RV front jack and every time I would jack it up it would either get stuck on up position or down position and you could hear where the gears were stripped. So I purchased the Bull Dog Item # BD1700100317 as well as the BD018564 as the footplate. I received the item within 3 days of order, open the boxed and installed in less than 5mins.One of the easiest products I have ever installed.I worked the trailer jack up and down with no problems and good amount of extend. Thanks guys for making my camping trips easier..Picture attached of old jack and new one in place. 317019

Great product. Bought a older enclosed trailer that had a jack with a crank on top. The old jack was very tired. I moved the spare tire to the front of the trailer outside, form its original location on the inside front wall, (which made little sense to me). With the tire on the outside the position of the jack and the crank handle rotation became more of an issue. The front crank solves that issue, and I feel it is a more natural cranking motion. 468025

I received the Bulldog 5000 Lb. A-Frame jack (BD1700100317) and coupler (CA5100B) Friday 12/9 and installed them the next day. They work great! I couldn't be happier with the service and prompt delivery that e-trailer provided. One of my items was not available so they were able to split my order with no extra cost. That was a life saver for me since I am a N.Y.C. mobile food vendor and needed the parts A.S.A.P. Thanks e-trailer. 27969

As always, fast shipping. I have a home made car trailer that should'a been 2 feet longer but isn't that always the case. Haha. When hauling a late 60's to 70's car the front end hung over jack making it useless sometimes. Decided to try this side wind jack. Works great. Still have the same problem sometimes but the handle can be easily modified to be extended out as far as needed. Don't know why I waited so long to try this. 288536

I got this 5,000lb jack because I had two 2,000lb jack handles break, so hopefully this takes care of the issue. Customer service was excellent. NOTE: keep the bolts from your old jack. The jack from etrailer does not come with any. I had to go to a RV dealer to get the proper bolts. Do not put just any bolt with these jacks. Must have a certain strength and I could not find one at the hardware stores. 229107

Great product. Item came earlier than expected. I had a 2000 lb top winder on my 18-ft box utility trailer that eventually became so difficult to crank that jacking it off of the ball was nearly impossible. Decided to go with this 5000 lb sidewinder. it bolted on easily and now elevating my heavy box trailer is a breeze. Even my 5-year old son likes to help daddy "drop the trailer!" 158298

This jack replaced the stock jack on my camper. The tongue weight of the camper is 2100 lbs. I purchased the 5000 lb jack because of all the equipment that is in the camper. This jack is like jacking up nothing. Very, very easy to crank, even with the truck attached to hook up the stabilizer bars. I highly recomend replacing your stock jack with this reasonably priced quality jack! 186056

This 5000 pound trailer jack is just what the doctor ordered for my boat trailer. The old jack that the trailer came with was getting very hard to turn. This jack is about 3000 pounds beyond what is required for getting the trailer up and off the ball. It is very easy to turn the handle and with the 3 inch triangle bolt pattern it matched the trailer bolt pattern. Excellent product. 313969

This is a great jack. No muss , no fuss. So simple to mount, bolt holes lined right up, and I had the job done in 30 minutes, which included getting out the few tools needed to do the job. My wife and I are restoring a vintage 1972 Yellowstone. Heavy trailer to say the least. A 12 year old kid can lift it with this jack. Very happy. Looks great to. Thanks E Trailer. 35587

My first time was a charmer! Ordered 5k lb. jack and foot, which I could not find anywhere else, and it works great. Ordered for customer who uses this heavier duty jack on his commercial pressure washer trailer. Product was just as advertised. This was my first order, but it definately will not be my last. System was so simple, quick, and easy to do. 4326

the product is great that why I only buy bulldog but the cardboard box they shipped it in was horrible the jack was hanging out of the box all the tape came loose there was hardly any box on the jack luckily the jack survived don't even know why they bothered putting it in a box that was as a good as a paper towel they need to review their packaging 477262

Its made in Mexico, but its well made. I added a grease fitting to the top lid so I dont have to always take off the lid to lubricate the gears. I also had to modify the foot plate holes slightly to fit my pattern but it was no big deal. Its not the same quality as the old Bulldog (USA Made) jacks but I would buy it again if I needed another. 406363

I bought this jack to replace the worn out unit on my 1977 trailer. The old one is welded into the frame and would be a pain to remove and re-weld this one. The old one had the main tube threads strip out on the smaller down tube. Easy way out - I took this one apart, and replaced all of the parts out of the new one - into the old outer-tube. 55741

The sidewinder lift jack appears to be a well built product. It is installed on our 32ft travel trailer and has no trouble lifting it. Awesome looking jack, replaced the one that was on our travel trailer. Got tired of busting my hand with that top handle jack. Installed in about ten minutes. Will also like the idea that it has 2000 more pounds of capacity. Very easy to operate nothing like the old one. Ordered on Monday and got it on Wednesday. 285149

My trailer weighs around 2500 and my local dealer sold me one rated for "2000 lbs" and said it would be fine. After it broke I discovered a very tiny etching on the jack that said 1000 lbs. Jack came in a large box with other items. Jack was not packaged or protected. It was scratched in several places down to the metal. I had to repaint it before it rusted. Perfect replacement for the electric jack that failed on me. Side wind handle is really easy to use even with a load on the trailer. I had planned to use the foot off my old jack but it won't fit due to a small groove in the new jack tube. I will find a way to make it work via big hammer. 240004

Extremely solid jack. I'm replacing a problematic electric jack that only seems to work at home. This may require a little more 'elbow grease' than holding a toggle switch, but will relieve the aggravation of the electric jack failing every time I get more than 10 miles from home. 451469

  • How to Choose the Correct Replacement Trailer Jack With Enough Ground Clearance on Rough Terrain
  • When choosing a jack for your trailer you will want to remember that the jack is not going to be lifting the entire weight of the trailer. You should choose a jack that exceeds the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded. The tongue weight of a trailer is typically calculated as 10 to 15 percent of the trailer weight. I would recommend finding the gross trailer weight rating (GTWR) which is the maximum weight that your trailer can support and choose a jack that is rated...

A top wind jack will be used when there is something on the trailer that will interfere with the rotation of the side wind handle on the jack and a side wind jack would be used if there is interference for the top wind jack handle. If the clearance issues are...

  • Mounting Bolt Pattern of the Bulldog A-Frame Jack and is Hardware Included
  • The bolt holes on the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack, item # BD1700100317, triangle mounting flange are 3 inches from center of one hole to the center of the next hole. They are equally spaced apart and they are elongated for easier installation. A-Frame jacks are all the same size and have the same bolt-pattern. The manufacturers did this so they could simplify the manufacturing process for both bolt-on and weld-on A-frame jacks. The jack can be bolted on, hardware not included, or...

  • Mounting Hole Size for A-Frame Trailer Jacks
  • The mounting hole dimensions of A-frame jacks are a standard 3 inches apart on center, so you will need to weld your new jack on. I highly recommend the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack # BD1700100317, which has a 5,000 lb capacity and will give you 15" of lift. It has an outer tube diameter of 2-1/4" and sidewind handle; for a footplate you would want # BD018564. This jack has been highly praised by our customers, with nearly 200 reviews it has an average close to 5 out of 5 stars. I've added...

  • Can A-Frame Trailer Jack be Removed and Side Frame Mounted Jack Installed
  • You can remove the A-Frame jack and install a frame-mounted jack on your trailer if you want to. It would not harm the trailer but if you wanted you could weld in some pipe in the old A-frame jack hole or cover it top and bottom with steel plates to ensure rigidity. I recommend a swivel jack, # PSEJ10000101, that can rotate out of the way when you tow the trailer. This jack bolts on up to 3x5 inch frames and has a 1,000 pound capacity. I have linked some videos on this jack for you.

  • Recommendation for an A-Frame Horse Trailer Jack with 15 Inch Lift and 5,000 Pound Capacity
  • If you are looking for another A-Frame jack, we have the new Pro Series Round, A-Frame Jack - Topwind, # PS1400600303, with 15 inch lift and 5,000 pound capacity. The mounting bracket on this jack uses the same hole spacing as the Bulldog Jack, # BD1700100317, that you have referenced. You can attach a wheel, # PS1400750340, or a footplate, # PS1400700340.

  • Can A Wheel Be Added To The Bulldog Round, Pipe-Mount Swivel Jack # BD178201
  • When a wheel is added to a jack, the weight capacity will change to what the weight capacity is on the wheel. The wheels will only have a weight capacity of from 800 lbs. to 1,500 lbs., so that would dramatically reduce the weight capacity on a 5,000 lb. jack. The Bulldog Round, Pipe-Mount Swivel Jack # BD178201 comes with a standard footplate. They do not offer a wheel option on this pipe-mount jack. I do not have a pipe mount jack that will accept a wheel. I do have the spring-loaded...

  • Replacement Trailer Jack For A-Frame Coupler With 2500 lb Tongue Weight
  • For your application there really isn't an comparable replacement jack. You cannot use a product designed for larger tubes on your jack that has moving parts. You could use a foot that is larger and then use a metal tube as a coupler to give you a firm connection as long as the rating is strong enough. I recommend just getting a new jack like the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack - Sidewind - 15" Lift - 5,000 lbs # BD1700100317. You may need to file the opening in your coupler to fit the...

  • Differences Between Bulldog A-Frame Jacks # BD1700100301 and # BD1700100317
  • Bulldog jacks # BD1700100317 and 1700100117 are the same item; the different part references denote individual retail boxed packaging versus bulk (unboxed) packaging for the # BD1700100317. Jack # BD1700100301 is the same jack only with a zinc finish instead of the painted finish. All share the same capacities.

  • Replacement Jack and Coupler for a 1955 Traveleze Trailer
  • Sounds like you are looking for a trailer jack. I looked up some pictures of your 1955 Traveleze and it is built on an A-frame so for an A-frame jack something like the part # BD1700100317 would work great. I attached a review video for more info for you to check out as well. Or it is possible that you are looking for a coupler repair kit. We offer several repair kits, but it will depend on what coupler you have on your trailer to know what would work best. See attached link to see them...

  • Trailer Jack Recommendation for 19 Foot Springdale Camper
  • I looked up your trailer and it has an A-frame style jack on it so for a replacement the Bulldog jack part # BD1700100317 would fit and work well. Unless you wanted to go with an electric jack to make raising and lower the jack easier. My favorite powered jack to recommend is the Husky Jack part # HT87641 as it has bearings in the screw which allow it to operate quicker and smoother. It also shuts off automatically before topping or bottoming out. Other jacks will allow you to go too...

  • Where Is The VIN Number on a Sure Trac Utility Trailer Found?
  • That is a good question. Usually a utility trailer's VIN number will be found on the frame near the trailer tongue but it actually can be printed anywhere on the frame. It may also be on a sticker that carries the manufacturer name and trailer model information. That sticker may be positioned in an out of the way location to protect it from wear from regular use and road hazards. It should be a 17 character VIN. In cases of trailers that have no VIN, your local state police or highway...

  • Jack Recommendation for a Trailer with a 1-7/8 inch Diameter Bottom Support Plate
  • None of the jacks we offer have tube dimensions that would be small enough to fit the bottom support plate on your trailer that is 1-7/8 inches in diameter. The best recommendation I could make would be to install a new bottom support plate like part # BD003135 so that you could use a jack like the Bulldog Jack part # BD1700100317 that you referenced. For a foot plate you would want part # BD018564.

  • Will Bulldog Round A-Frame Jack Fit a Wells Cargo Trailer
  • All A-Frame mounted jacks like this Bulldog jack, use the same bolt pattern. In other words, those mounting holes are a universal size and pattern that way any A-Frame jack will fit into any A-Frame jack mount. As long as your Wells Cargo has an A-Frame jack mount, this jack will fit.

  • Recommendation for Tongue Jack on Travel Trailer with 780 LB Tongue Weight
  • I recommend going with the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack, # UF38-944017. This jack has a 12 volt motor for quick and simple lifting. The lift capacity is 3,500 pounds. By using a jack with a much higher lifting capacity than the tongue weight of your trailer, there is less wear and tear put on the jack's motor. If you are looking for a more economical option, Bulldog offers the Sidewind A-Frame Jack, # BD1700100317. This jack gives you a lift capacity of 5,000 pounds. A Detachable...

  • A-Frame Trailer Jack with 4 Inches Bracket to Bottom of Jack Clearance when Retracted
  • The mounting bracket on Bulldog jack # BD1750290317 is welded to the outer jack tube so it cannot be moved. For a 5k A-frame mount jack with better clearancec # BD1700100317 measures 8-5/8 inches when retracted. If 2,000 pounds capacity is enough then Pro Series jack # PS1401000303 measures just 5-1/2 inches retracted. Or the 750 pound rack and gear jack # BD165111 goes all the way down to 3-1/2 inch retracted height.

  • Difference Between Bulldog Powder Coated and Zinc Finish 5,000 Pound A-Frame Trailer Jacks
  • The difference is just as you have said. Bulldog jack # BD1700100317 is powder coated while # BD1700100301 has a zinc finish which makes it better for marine applications. Both are rated for 5,000 pounds, have 15 inches of lift, and install the same way with the same 3-hole mounting flange. I have linked video reviews for each jack for you.

  • It does sound like there is something that has damaged the internals of your current jack right at about halfway up. Regardless of top-wind or side-wind this should not happen. The # BD1700100317 has a 5,000 lb capacity, and the # BDCP555 has a capacity of 1,500 lbs you would have a jack setup with 15 inches of rise, 1,500 lb capacity and has a caster wheel.

  • Landing Gear Jack Recommendations for a Livestock Trailer
  • If you are considering a dual jack setup like the part # BD500162 that's what I would recommend. Two jacks will offer more stability and since two jacks will be doing the lifting instead of one the cranking will be a bit easier as well. The easiest to use setup will be a powered landing gear set though as it would only require you to press a button. For that the Bulldog part # BD500161 would be a great option.
