Will A Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box Get My Camper Back To Level?

Published 10/09/2026

Question:

I have a new 2026 F250 with an 8 ft bed and the Off Road package. Thus it sit higher than my old F250 with the standard 4x4 package. I have an Alliance 23ML and the standard Curt Rotoflex king pin installed at the highest setting and my BW Companion hitch set at the lowest setting. My 5th wheel used to ride nice and level. With the new truck being about 2 inches higher. My 5th wheel now rides nose up. I would like to go to a goose neck GenY or the new BW. What do you recommend to get my trailers nose back to level? Is one brand more adjustable than the other? Thank you

Hey Mark, thanks for writing in. I can definitely help you find the right gooseneck pin box for your Alliance, but I will tell you that typically, the height of the goosebox is very similar to the height of the pin box and 5th wheel hitch it is designed to replace. In some cases, you can gain or lose an inch or two, but adding a goosebox isn't really considered an effective way or changing your ride height.

So, before you order anything, we definitely need to look at the height of your current setup and compare it to the height of the goosebox. I've included a dimensional drawing of the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box for your reference. Compare that to the height of your current setup, and we will know if the swap will actually get your Alliance level. Keep your bed rail clearance in mind too, we don't want to reduce that by too much either.

That said, I do recommend the Gen-Y over the B&W. Both are solid, but I've just seen better results from the Gen-Y and heard so many great things about them over the years. They do a great job smoothing out the ride for both the camper and the truck. There is a short break-in period for the torsion rubber, but once you get some miles under your belt, you'll really start to notice the difference, and I think you'll be happy with it. Also, no more heavy Companion hitch to deal with.

Lastly, we will need to determine exactly which bolt pattern your current Curt pin box uses. There should be a sticker up on the side of the pin box brackets with the model number and serial number. Shoot those numbers over to me, and I can tell you exactly which model goosebox to get.

Let me know how the height of the goosebox in the diagram compares to the height of your current setup.

Any trips coming up? Do you usually do more long hauls, or do you stay local?
