Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on this 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, we're going to install part number 75471 from Draw-Tite. This is what the hitch looks like when it's installed on the vehicle. Next, we'll give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 13 inches and from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outside edge of the bumper will be 5-3/4 inches. First thing we'll do is we'll show you where the hitch mounts up to the frame as these two existing threaded holes here. Next step is to go ahead and clean up the threaded holes.

The older the vehicle it is, the more work it will take. We're going to spray a lubricant and tube brush to help clean up the threads. And worst case scenario, if it's all clogged up then you'll have to use the thread cap to clean them up. And the tube brush we're using is part number 814092. At this point, we can go ahead and start installing the hitch.

Now, you definitely want an extra set of hands to help hold it up there while you install the hardware. With all of our hardware installed, now we'll go ahead and tighten down the hardware and then torque it down as specified in the instructions. With all of our hardware tightened down, that will finish it for our install of part number 75471 from Draw-Tite.

A very solid and well made trailer hitch. I had some trouble installing it, although that was not the fault of the hitch. Rather, the existing bolt holes in my Santa Fe were rusted from 4+ years of driving. My initial attempts to get the bolts to go in were a failure - I couldn't even turn them 1 full turn by hand (and I didn't want to try to force them with a wrench). I reached out to etrailer Support by email, and got a reply within an hour (on a Sunday, no less). They recommended getting small wire brushes that would fit up into the holes, and if that didn't work, using a metric tap to carefully clean up the threads. I had to order the brushes and tap online, so that delayed me by about a week. After spraying the holes with WD-40 and using the wire brushes, I was easily able to get three of the four bolts to thread in by hand. The fourth one required the tap to clean up the threads, then that bolt also went in easily. The rest of the installation was pretty easy. My wife helped me hold the hitch in place while I threaded the bolts in. I also used some bricks to hold up one end of the hitch while I put the bolts in the other end. Another challenge is getting a socket on the bolts to tighten them up with a ratchet wrench. Even with a long extension, it's hard to get a socket on some of the bolts, due to interference from the hitch itself, but with some finessing, it can be done. The final result looks great on my car and feels extremely solid. The picture is the final result, with my bike carrier installed on the hitch. Outstanding customer support from etrailer!! 120839

I had to run out the threads with a 10 X 1.25 tap on all four holes. A little bit of a pain in the neck, but worth the effort. Thank God for the video, especially for the wiring harness. Printed instructions would have you take your Santa Fem apart.

Im very happy with my purchase of the trailer hitch after a year. I used it extensively last year with a bike rack for hauling one or two mountain bikes around. It is in great shape, no rust, and is very solid. I would certainly recommend it.Thanks for checking in.

Hitch installed My husband can't do this type of auto work any more, so I installed the hitch. We used a lift table to hold the hitch up while I did the installation. The one thing your video needs to state is to pull the mufflers over a little (about one inch). That gives just the amount of room for your hand to fit up there to start the bolts. The wrench was about the same. Frank pulled the pipes over just a bit and it went very well. I used large wire ties to hold the wire harness up, along with the sticky tape. We tested everything and all works perfect! Now to buy the trailer! We will recommend this, and your company to everyone! It took me just about one hour to do the job...I was a bit nervous because I wanted to do a good job, and make sure those bolts were tight. 4929

As advertised; Does the job Hitch fit perfectly, and works as expecfted. No complaints there. etrailer shipped it fast. My only 2 complaints are cost: this is my 3rd hitch I have purchased in the past 6 years (on diff. vehicles), and while the price is a couple bucks cheaper than anywhere else, it's $50 more than my '02 Santa Fe I bought for a few years ago. Secondly, install was a little tight for a big guy with big hands!! You can crawl under without jacking up the back end, but it's very tight. And the space between the mufflers and the side of the hitch frame is tight for larger hands. My suggestion for a very quick install: back the rear end up on ramps, and use a 5/8" short socket with a long extension. This will cut a 15 minute install to 5 minute. Once you have some room, it's very simple and quick. Beyond that, I'm not thrilled with the design of any of the aftermarket hitches, as they wrap below the muffler on both sides. This is very visable from behind, and not very visually appealing. Would be better if the hitch wrapped above the muffler, completely out of sight. 2080

I received the trailer hitch and wiring harness in the morning and leisurely installed everything in a couple of hours. The online videos were useful, and by using blocks and one scissor jack, installed the hitch myself. The wiring harness was also an easy install. No pinched fingers, no scratches and no swearing. This was my second purchase from e-trailer and the service has been excellent both times. 76635

I couldnt be happier with e-trailers service. They go out of their way to find parts, and their videos are very helpful.

Product is very well made. Definitely heavy duty. My first attempt to install did not turn out so well. The hitch was heavier than I thought and was difficult to hold in position while my wife tried to thread the bolts into the welded nuts in the frame rail. I did not clean them out first either. Our second attempt was successful. After cleaning the treads and using floor jack and ramps to elevate the vehicle we were able to install the hitch. Everything lined up well and my wife was able to thread the bolts in because my hands are just to big to get in that tight spot. The only thing I believe may have helped would be to have double threaded studs to install in existing nuts order to guide the hitch in place. Then putting the nuts on the stud would be easier. I figure though that my wife and I being in our mid 60's and we did it in about an hour was still pretty good. We intend to use the hitch mostly with a hitch haul carrier to put bulky items in while traveling. 283939

Great company, delivery was exceptional, cust support was excellent and product was as described..... installed hitch and harness in 90 min. by the instructional videos, nothing helps more than seeing it done first. overall very satisified and will be a return customer. 95623

product worked perfect, trailered my camper and even bought a bike rack that attaches...unfortunalety I sold the car but will definitely be doing future business with this company.

This hitch fit perfectly my 2009 Hyundai SantaFe. Installation took no more than 20 minutes on the ground (no lift). And the work was done by two of my "less qualified" shop personnel! Really how hard can lining up four bolts/holes that fit and matched perfectly. The quality of the hitch is very good, and looks very rugged/strong. I am sure I would rip the frame out of my car before this hitch would break! Recommend it to essentially anyone to install, and the video is nice too. Biggest variable would be if the weldnuts are clogged, which mine were not. But we sprayed them with WD-40 anyway and ran the bolts in first to clear out anything. NOTE: This is not a one man job however, as you need someone to hold the other end up while you put your end on and get it bolted. Guess a cement block would work, but an extra set of hands is soooo much easier. 163069

The 30 min doesn't include the time to clean up the nut plate threads - I am so glad the video explained that the bolt may even seem oversized. I was convinced I would end up with a buggered bolt and nut plate or break it off, but I took my time, lots of liquid wrench, a thread chaser, and finally ran it in and out with an impact wrench (delicately). Also used a battery terminal cleaner - like the video. After that, I used a tie-down strap and held the hitch up (no helper) and got the bolts all in with no problem. The install after the treads were clean was about 15 min. Looks good, now after a rest I will try pulling the camper a little. Also while down there I say the factory electrical connectors for the wiring - so that will be my next order. etrailer will get it here in three days, just like always, I am sure. 44354

Hitch fit perfectly. Only issue was the corrosion in the pre-tapped holes of my 2009 Santa Fe. Had to run tap into holes to clean threads. It is clearly a 2 man job to install. Great fit and look when completed. 128855

Hitch is holding up well and still looks great. Works very well with our bike rack. Would purchase again!!

I just installed this hitch and tried to do it myself with no luck but ended up getting the extra sets of hands that I needed. Words of wisdom. ...clean treads well(oil and tap), extra hands or rig into position, pushing the mufflers towards the center of the vehicle helps you to get your hands get the bolts started. If I were to do this again I would.....first take a piece of rope and wrap it around both mufflers and cinch it together to give more clearance when working, take more care when tapping the holes (I ended up stripping one hole because my tap was crooked due to the muffler intrusion), and use at least one more person to help lift it into place and start bolts or rig into position. Learn from my mistakes and do it right...haha. Be safe, wear safety glasses, and be aware of pinch points. 176675

Very heavy duty product and simple installation. Only difficulty was getting at the bolts. My 6" socket extension was just a little too long to get at the front ones because of the shape of the hitch. I would recommend using a 1.5"-2" bit along with a 3" wobble extension. Wish I had started the project with that little tool! Other than that it was easy. Even did it myself without jacking the car. Used my bottle jack to hold one side in place while I fastened the other. Total project time was about 45 minutes as a one man job. 406307

Got the hitch receiver and had it installed within an hour of opening the box. Local guy wanted $20 more for the hitch receiver than etrailer, plus he wanted an $80 installation fee. $80 just to screw in 4 bolts? No thanks. Instructional video was selling point on how easy this was to install. Overall I've had a great experience dealing with 73995

The trailer hitch works great. I might eventually get around to ordering the trailer wiring but for now she just wanted to be able to put a bike rack on her car and the hitch enabled us to do that for her. Thanks again for the great service, instructional videos and quick - affordable free shipping on the hitch.

This is a high quality, heavy duty hitch. Simple bolt-on installation was straight forward, and easy. The installation videos provided by eTrailer were accurate and helpful. Shipping was fast! A++ One tech note: The older your vehicle gets (mine is a 2009) the more rust & debris you will likely have in the frame mounting holes. One of mine also had a piece of weld slag stuck in the threads. I bought a tap (~$6) to chase the threads prior to installing the hitch. The tap is 10mm by 1.25mm thread pitch. Spray the holes with WD40, guide the tap in and your threads will be clear for easy installation. 62548

This heavy, welded hitch should last for years. It fit exactly as it should on my 2009 Santa Fe and it looks good. The product was "as advertised" and installation was straightforward. Unfortunately, the Santa Fe bolt holes were a problem with severe corrosion. I saw a "tap" bolt installed in a body panel next to where the hitch was to be bolted and used it to clean the threads of the existing mounting holes. One of the holes had almost no thread at all, so while the hitch installation only took about fifteen minutes, that was after spending an hour getting the bolts to thread in. 41718

Great product and very happy with Shipping of the hitch perfect. The installation video helped a lot, especially the cleaning of the vehicles mounting holes - very important if you want the installation to go smoothly. Total install time from prep cleaning to bolting was about 1hr simple. My neighbor liked it so much he is looking in to a hitch for his truck.! 12645

Really happy I went with etrailer for my towing needs. Ordering was a breeze and the helpful install videos were a major plus! Very happy with trailer hitch I got and install was pretty easy. The only I problem I had was the bolt holes in my 2007 Santa Fe were corroded and it took a good amount of time to get them clean. I used the battery terminal cleaner tool and A LOT of wd40 as suggested by etrailer...worked great. I ended up stripping the very last bolt so I am taking it in to get retapped but other that.....AWESOME PRODUCT and GREAT SERVICE! Thank you Etrailer. 62150

Decided to put a trailer hitch on my wife Santa Fe for when we go on vacation so we can use the cargo rack. Saw this model was a perfect fit , easy install 4 bolts and you are done. Installed it in my driveway without having to lift the car up. Took me about 30 min (did it by my self). so it took a little longer if you had 2 people it could have been quicker. 43544

I cant think of any thing else this company could have done to make this transaction any better. I was notified when the order was accepted, shipped, tracking information and finally when my hitch was delivered. Plenty of installation information in print and online videos. My only suggestion for improvement would be to have the hitch automatically installed by the time I got home. Thank you etrailer, I wish I needed another trailer hitch because I know right where to order one. I wonder if I can install one on the front of my truck..... Rick 16133

The hitch fit perfect. You will need two people to put it on for sure. I had to buy a m10 X 1.5 tap to clean out the existing nuts in the frame. After I chased the threads clean the bolts seemed loose when I put them in by hand, like they would strip out easily. This was not the case however, they torqued to 59 Flbs. Like it said in the instructions. The wiring harness that I bought along with the hitch went in and works perfect. However I'm very handy and I think some people might have trouble with the instructions, they are not that clear. 442787

Just received my trailer hitch today from E-Trailer. It was my first ever purchase on line. The experience was so positive with etrailer that I shall shop this way many times in the future. The order entry prosess was a snap and their response that my order had been received and entered was immediate. Customer service e-mailed back within five minutes thanking me for my order and advised they had arranged earlier shipping at no expense to me. My product is exactly what was conveyed to me by etrailer. Much better than driving to the mall. 8746

Great Hitch.. great price! Got this hitch for our 2009 Sante Fe. Holes line up, its shape fits the car perfectly! A little tricky getting the bolts to thread, definitely need a second person, one to hold the hitch and one to thread the bolts. Done in less that half an hour. Got the Valley Wiring kit 30159 for the Hyundai Trailer package. Check their video out and check your Sante FE, the harness connectors are their even if you didn’t order the Trailer Package!! Hitch Receiver arrived on time. I reviewed the help video especially the importance of cleaning up the threaded installation holes within the frame. I have an 09 Santa Fe and took the extra time to clean the threads and lubricate the hole. Also pre-installed the bolts several times to make sure they would thread properly. It's definitely a two person job and went a lot easier with the threads ready to receive the bolt and went a lot quicker. Quick is important, the receiver got heavy. Thanks again. 193508

I placed my order on Saturday evening and received the delivery on Thursday with standard free ground transport shipping. Very satisfied with the turn around. Very Happy with Hitch Based on the other reviews I purchased this hitch. Looks great and a snap to install. My son bolted it in while I held it steady. PS: I have a 2009, and this model year has the wiring hookups installed even if you don't order the Trailer Package from Hyundai. I got the Valley T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Trailer Connector (30159) which plugged right into the Factory terminals behind the driver side rear wheel. No splicing required! 3398

Very easy to install, fits like a glove. We had to tap out the bolt holes first, 10mm x 1.25mm pitch for the Santa Fe. Everything installed easily and the instructional video was a big help too. 81269

Sarahme too, and from what I hear, chasing the threads is a smart idea even if the vehicle is brand new. I must have cleaned out a pound of grime and dirt, but it really mad final install a breeze. Taps are readily available, and I highly recommend an extended shaft tap wrench.

-- comment by: John D - 05/10/2014

If the weld-nuts are grimy, it becomes a must to chase the threads with a tap. It's always a help, even if the car is brand new, as paint or frame sealant can get in the weldnuts during production. Even though they look clean, that paint can make it difficult to thread hitch bolts.

I ordered the Hidden Hitch for my 2008 Santa Fe. Delivery was quick within 2 days. The instructional video and reviews were priceless. It took longer than the estimated 30 minutes but only because the bolt holes needed cleaning out and thanks to the reviews and instructional video I was prepared. The hitch is heavy so providing support under it while attaching to the vehicle is necessary. All in all very satisfied and glad that my hitch went on without a hitch. Thanks 38052

I am very happy with my order. Installation took longer than it should have, because my 8 year-old son was "helping", but it was still a breeze. I would suggest a wobble-tip extension for your ratchet, since the mufflers get in the way a bit. With a floor jack to hold the load, it is a simple one person install. Wire harness installed even easier, and the install video really helps to clarify, since the written instructions were a bit confusing. 16608

Shipping was very fast, and the online videos really helped me understand how to install it on my vehicle. It was a little hard and heavy to install the hitch receiver by myself, but I used two jack stands to hold it in place while I bolted it in. A second set of hands would have really helped. The wiring went very smooth, just like the video. I would recommend doing it yourself and purchasing through any time. 67592

Hitch was shipped and delivered very quickly. Only point not in the installation instructions or video is that there was a Tie Down Bracket on the passenger side frame that had to be removed. The muffler must be dropped and the heat shield removed to access the bolt which goes horizontally through the frame rail. Other than that, installation was very simple. 16401

Great service. Prouct arrived in 2 days. Videos were invaluable. Really made project easy. Only problem was getting bolts through corroded threads. We WD40 the holes and scrubbed with battery wire brush and still hard to torque by hand. Fortunately had access to Pneumatic gun which acceived success. Could not have done it without it. Wireing was a breaze!! 29285

Doing the install in my driveway was a little rough. I had to retapping the rusted threads in the frame. Excellent product I just installed my hitch on a 08 Hyundai Santa Fe. It was real simple. Everything lined up correctly. It is well made and like the name says it is hidden nicely with just the receiver showing. I also bought all my accessories and they are all top quality products. 1141

Outstanding! Very easy bolt on design - two people to install may be easier, otherwise, use two car jacks to assist. Mount is completely hidden except for the Hitch. Towing capacity exceeds that of my trailer capacity. Have used with a rental trailer and works just great! 698

This purchase met and sometimes exceeded every expectation I had. I really thought shipping would be an issue but I received it quickly and in perfect shape. The product is great quality and I used the online videos to show me how to install it. Completely satisfied. 180614

Hitch works great The hitch works great. Installing it was another issue. Once I got the rust cleaned out of the threads on my vehicle it went it pretty smoothly. I used my motorcycle lift to assist with getting the hitch in place. All in all a great product. 2603

My husband is disabled so my 22 year old daughter and I installed the hatch at night in the rain with no troubles. Our only issue is that I have a full size spare and the hitch would not fit until we removed the tire. Which is now inside my car. 178072

Everything was in order and delivered quickly. Had a hard time getting the bolts to fit squarely. Probably would've been easier if we were standing under the vehicle instead of lying down. All in all, everything worked out well. Thanks. 294719

This trailer hitch receiver was easier to install then I thought. While it is stated in the instructions that two people are usually necessary to install it, I was able to get it installed alone. Great product and excellent delivery times. 7018

  • Will the Anti-Rattle Lock Part # 63147 Fit an Allen Sport S535 Premier Hitch Rack
  • As long as the shank of the bike rack you have is hollow the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock part # 63232 would be an excellent choice for you as it would provide you with a hitch lock as well as work as an anti-rattle device. I attached a review video for this product for you to check out as well.

If you're needing replacement installation hardware, we can supply a replacement hardware kit for you. • Will a Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Fit a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe with Optional Third Row Seating
  • The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75471, is listed as a fit for all models of the 2007 to 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you and a link to a video showing a typical installation. If you plan on doing some towing, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag. For trailer wiring there are 2 options. If the vehicle does NOT have a factory tow package, use...

I have included a link to the installation instructions. You will see that installation of this hitch is a 2 step process. I have also included a link to a video showing a typical installation and it will be the same on your Santa Fe. You will see that put the hitch in place without...

  • Recommended Snow Plowing Options for 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • I would agree that given the fact that you're not using a 1 ton truck, the lighter the plow, the better. You'd start with the front mount receiver from Curt, part # C31035. From there, I'd recommend the SnowSport HD, part # A40000HD. This plow is the lightest option, and is the most mechanically simple with no moving parts or electric connections that need to be made. If you planned on using the plow for a semi-commercial/residential use, the SnowBear Plow, # SB324-080 might be a better...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Platform-Style Bike Rack For 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • You are correct that the best option is to use a trailer hitch with a hitch mounted bike rack. Using a platform-style carrier keeps the bike from having constant contact with the vehicle finish and platform racks are easier to load and unload. The trailer hitch I recommend if you do not have one is the Draw-Tite, part # 75471. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2 inch receiver opening. For a bike carrier I recommend the Swagman Chinook, part # S64683. This bike rack has some...

  • Can Friction Sway Control be Added to a Trailer Hitch for a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • Weight distribution and sway control are actually 2 different systems. Sway control systems are an accessory that can be added to a weight distribution system or used independently (friction sway control only). Sway control systems do not distribute any weight and weight distribution systems alone do not control trailer sway quite as well as sway control (though they do help with sway a little). So a trailer hitch that is not rated for use with weight distribution could still use a friction...

  • Can 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe Without Trailer Tow Package Tow a Camper?
  • You can tow with a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, though according to the owner's manual, without the towing package you have a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 lbs. In order to tow with your Santa Fe, you would need a hitch, and I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75471, which has a bolt-on installation so no welding is going to be required. You would also need wiring to add a 4-way connector, the T-One Harness # 118415. I also checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which may fulfill your towing needs...
