Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

  • Do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one.
    • If a fender was damaged during a blowout, use the opposite fender to get the dimensions.
  • As with all trailer maintenance, don't forget to chock your wheels before getting started.
  • For a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware, if possible.
    • The old mounting bolts or screws might be stripped or rusted, in which case you'll need to tap them out and buy new hardware.
  • If removing an old, welded-on fender, either carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop to have the fender professionally removed.
  • Don't forget to prime and paint the new fender to keep it from rusting (and to match your trailer's finish).
  • Before you start drilling, position the fender where you need it and center it over your wheel well.
    • Mark where you need to drill (measure twice, drill once).
  • Don't tighten down the mounting hardware completely until you're sure the fender is mounted correctly.

  • Are There Special Processes Required to Prime/Paint Single Axle Trailer Fender part # HP89VR
As long as the metal of the Single Axle Trailer Fender part # HP89VR is clean it would be totally ready for primer and paint. No special treatments or processes needed at all.

  • Radius of # HP89VR Trailer Fender
The trailer fender you mentioned, part # HP89VR is designed for use with 13 and 14 inch tires. The radius of the fender is 14 inches, or half the total length of 28 inches. Because the fender is not a complete half circle, this does not represent the actual dimension of the radius. Because two of these fenders placed together would not make a complete a circle geometrically speaking, the true radius would be unobtainable and would most likely be slightly less than 14 inches. I have...

  • Availability of a Steel Trailer Fender with a 1 Inch Radius Lip on Front and Back
We do have one model that has the 1 inch lip radius on both sides. Take a look at 16-Gauge Steel, Single-Axle Trailer Fender, 1 inch Radius Front/Back, # HP89VR. There are some differences though. This fender is 7 inches wide, 28 inches long, 10 inches high, and fits 13 or 14 inch tires.

  • Replacement Fender Options for Choi Lee Trailer
The closest thing we have to an 18" long fender is the Single Axle Trailer Fender # HP39VR which is 19-1/2" long. The full dimensions are 19-1/2" long x 5-1/2" wide x 5-1/4" tall so it falls a little short on the width. If you're ok with a plastic fender you could also use the Fulton Single Axle Trailer Fender # F008550. This is 7" wide x 20-1/4" long x 6-1/4" tall. Without an exact match all you can do is try to get the dimensions as close as possible on new fenders.

  • Recommended Steel Fender for 12 Inch Wheel for Motorcycle Sidecar
I'd recommend going with the US made CE Smith # CE17720, the fender measures 22-1/2 inches in length, so it will closely match the profile of your tires. The fender is 7 inches in width, you could certainly split the fender along its width and weld in a 5 inch wide piece of 16 gauge steel to widen the fender to 12 inches. I've provided a photo showing the dimensions of the # CE17720 fender.

  • Trailer Fenders Compatible with 12 Inch Wheels and Brackets 27 Inches Apart
For your retrofitted kayak trailer I recommend the Single Axle Trailer Fender - 16 Gauge Steel - 13" to 14" Wheels - Qty 1 # HP89VR which have a span of 28 inches. This fender is designed for larger tires and has a 28 inch overall span, so when mounting to your brackets it will fit on the inside of your brackets. If you want to go over the brackets then the Single Axle Trailer Fender - Jeep Style - Aluminum Tread Plate - 13" to 15" Wheels - Qty 1 # HP96VR may be more the route to go....

  • Recommended Trailer Fender for 14 Inch Wheels and 28 Inches Long
For a trailer fender that is 28 inches long and designed for 14 inch wheels, I recommend the # HP69VR which is 7-3/4 inches wide or the # HP89VR which is 7 inches wide. The Mounting Brackets for Trailer Fender - 13"/14"/15" Wheels - Galvanized Steel - Qty 2 # CE26098G-2 will allow you to mount these. Your other option is to use the etrailer Single Axle Trailer Fender w/ Backing # HP79VR which will allow you to mount it by the backing plate instead of using brackets. The Fulton Single...

  • What is the Radius of CE Smith Single Axle Trailer Fender CE17701G
If by radius you mean the length of a line segment from the center of a sphere to its perimeter then it is 11-3/4 inches given that the overall length of the fender # CE17701G is 23-1/2 inches. Because the fender is not a true half circle, this does not represent the actual dimension of the radius. Because two of these fenders placed together would not make a complete a circle, the actual radius would be unobtainable and would most likely be slightly less than 11-3/4 inches. Fulton...
