Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

  • Do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one.
    • If a fender was damaged during a blowout, use the opposite fender to get the dimensions.
  • As with all trailer maintenance, don't forget to chock your wheels before getting started.
  • For a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware, if possible.
    • The old mounting bolts or screws might be stripped or rusted, in which case you'll need to tap them out and buy new hardware.
  • If removing an old, welded-on fender, either carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop to have the fender professionally removed.
  • Don't forget to prime and paint the new fender to keep it from rusting (and to match your trailer's finish).
  • Before you start drilling, position the fender where you need it and center it over your wheel well.
    • Mark where you need to drill (measure twice, drill once).
  • Don't tighten down the mounting hardware completely until you're sure the fender is mounted correctly.

The fender was good quality & it seemed priced right.
The standard shipping was pretty quick. Only 3 days from ordering. And pretty much across the nation.
The packaging was a little lacking. Put in a box with no packing. Slight dented. But not enough to call them. Although one of the fenders I ordered a few years ago had to be sent back.
All in all … a great company to deal with!
Customer support is wonderful!

by:

Very high quality. Rebuilt a trailer that had been sitting on the ranch full of junk for 15 years. Had a mobile home axle and wheels on it. eTrailer had the perfect size fender. ready to paint...no prep needed.

Comments
Great! No Complaints after a year on the ranch.

I thought the fenders were excellent! And I believe I paid a great price. I replaced the fenders on a 12 foot utility trailer that has 15" tires. I thought they fit well, and I bolted them on (even though I understand your not supposed to.) I used a solvent to remove the oil from the fenders, primed them, and painted them. I was grateful that they were not rusty when I received them. Good job everyone. No dents in packaging and delivery either. Again, good job.

by:

As expected. Worked great for my projec t.

by:

I don't usually write reviews, but my experience working with etrailer.com has been exceptional! I like dealing with a company that has a real human being answer their phone and etrailer does that. I had ordered the wrong parts for a trailer and dreaded the return activities. Sharon O was very helpful and got the replacement parts sent out the same day we talked. She also sent me a pdf that I was able to print and use as a UPS label to return the wrong parts I had ordered. All I had to do was take the package to a UPS office. (etrailer.com even paid for the shipping charge and deducted the amount from the refund for the parts I returned.)

by:

The fenders give my trailer a professional look.

by:

These fenders are solid and well built.
4 stars instead of five because I ordered a receiver hitch and it was packaged with the fenders and caused some minor cosmetic damage.
I also added some welds to the back plate as it was minimally spot welded in only a couple spots.

by:

Package arrived promptly and without damage. Ordered the fenders with the backing already on.
Attachment was simple and easy with the MIG. Note that the backing that is on the fender is spot welded. It required further tack welds between each spot weld to keep it from vibrating. Overall, a good sturdy fender that should last.

by:

I purchased a boat trailer with no fenders (the originals rusted out and were removed) and these turned out to be perfect. Very sturdy and well built.

by:

Could have had a few welding plates spot welded on. Had to be very careful not to burn thru when welding to trailer. Worked great.

by:

Great product at a great price...
Would
definitely use etrailer aagain

Comments
Still going strong!!! I dont really beat on my stuff. I was given a trailer that had seen better days, I rebuilt most of the mechanicals on it & its still serving me well…Thanks for the follow up though…

by:

Purchased these to replace rusted out set on a 12 foot trailer. Product was exactly as described and fit perfectly. Mine were used in a welded on application, followed by primer and paint. Very nice product, thank you.

by:

I think the fenders are fine . Seem to be well made and like how they look, unfortunately, I had to buy a third fender after I had a blow out on my trailer. Didn't fare to well when that happened at 60 mph. First picture is a before shot and the second is an after shot if you couldn't tell.

by:

Great product! Came pretty quickly and back plate was already welded to fender so that saved a little time. Really good product. I'll definitely purchase my parts from here from now on.

by:

The product is good quality and exactly what I expected. However the box it was sent in is not strong enough for metal fenders. On one end of the box the fender cut through the box exposing the edge of the fender and resulted in some minor damage.( bottom edge bent). I think this could be avoided in the future if the shipping box had reinforced corners protecting the sharp edges.

by:

I’m so proud of my self on making the right choice and purchase from ETRAILER, large inventory, fast delivery, quality products and best of all competitive affordable prices
I ordered wheel fenders and they fit perfectly just a couple of coats of paint and done.
Most recommend for all your hauling needs

by:

Wanted to paint and install prior to sending feedback. Quite satisfied. Well made fenders. Easy install. Look great. Sturdy.

Comments
As well as when I purchased the fenders and installed them. Ive towed this trailer 6,000 miles since install. Working quite well.

Great fenders

by:

Worked perfwfor what I needed!

by:

Nice fenders. These are better than I was expecting. I used these to replace the rusted out fenders on my trailer. Dimensions listed are accurate and fit no problem. Very strong and solid, especially after welding on to the trailer.

Comments
One year later, these are doing great. They really are plenty strong, they get stepped on, stuff sat on them, and theyre still like new. Not that you should step on them, but it happens!
Aaron C - 08/25/2021

by:

Awesome company to deal with Order delivery was spot on

by:

It was just what I ordered and fit our trailer just fine.

by:

4 stars. Would give 5 if edges weren't so sharp. Great value.

Comments
This fender is supposed to be primed and painted to protect against corrosion. I would file any edges prior to doing so.
-- Etrailer Expert Sierra K - 12/13/2021

by:

These fenders are heavy duty, rock solid, symmetrical fenders that made my refurbished trailer looking like new. A quick weld job, primer, and paint was all it took.

Comments
Fenders started to rust a little bit already. I think its because I didnt paint them right. I just assumed I could prime them the coat them with my color of choice. I was wrong, oh well. Just used touch up paint and they look just as good as they did last year. Probably doesnt help the trailer is outside all year round either.

  • Replacement Steel Fender for 1994 Procraft Single Axle Boat Trailer
Your trailer appears to have steel fenders and we do offer these as well as tough ABS plastic types and aluminum fenders too. You can see all replacement trailer fenders on the linked page. Just click on your trailer's wheel diameter and your preferred material to narrow down the products displayed. We do not carry exact trailer-specific replacement fenders but between all the types and sizes we carry you should be able to find a suitable part. For example, for a steel fender with backing...

  • How are the Steel and Diamond Plate Trailer Fenders Measured
When measuring our Steel and Diamond Plate trailer fenders we measure overall width, overall length across the diameter of the fender (across the bottom where it would set on the floor) and overall height. So the 16-Gauge Steel, Single-Axle Trailer Fender, item # HP36VR, is 9 inches overall width, 32 inches overall width across the bottom and 15 inches overall height. All of our fenders are measured in the same way. The video shows how this is measured at the very end.

  • What Are the Dimensions for Trailer Fender # HP36VR and How is it Measured
The 16-Gauge Steel, Single-Axle Trailer Fender # HP36VR is 9 inches wide measured from outside edge to outside edge. It is 32 inches long from outside front edge to outside rear edge (at the bottom of the fender). And it is 15 inches tall measured from the very bottom to the very top. So if it was sitting on level ground, from the ground to the top most part of the fender would be 15 inches. This is also demonstrated in the attached video for you. He measures it at the end of the video.

  • How To Install the etrailer brand 16-Gauge Steel Single-Axle Trailer Fender # HP36VR
The etrailer 16-Gauge Steel, Single-Axle Trailer Fender, part # HP36VR, is a weld-on application for single axle trailers with 14 inch or 15 inch tires. It comes with a pre-installed back plate. It does not require an installation kit. This fender is built with 16 gauge steel and when installed properly would be able to hold quite a bit of weight. Stepping on the fender would not be a problem, but it is not really designed for somebody to stand on it.

This Etrailer Trailer Fender # HP36VR is not galvanized. The reason for that is that these fenders are a weld-on application and it is not recommended you weld galvanized steel for health reasons. Painting the fender after it is installed would be your best option.

  • Trailer Light Fuse Blows After Tail Light and Wiring Harness Install
The incorporation of LED lights would not cause a fuse to blow as they will draw less power from the vehicle's trailer lighting circuits than incandescent lights would. Since you mentioned that you just installed a new wiring harness and tail lights that would be the first place I check as you most likely have a wire shorted out which is then causing an overload on the circuit. The first thing to do is check that you have the grounds secured for both the tail lights and the trailer connector....

  • What Type of Primer and Paint Should be Used on Single Axle Trailer Fender w/ Backing # HP36VR
Since the Single Axle Trailer Fender w/ Backing # HP36VR you referenced is raw steel priming and painting it is recommended otherwise it will corrode fairly quickly. Untreated metal requires primer to seal from exposure before paint as well. Best option will be to go with an oil based, rust inhibitive primer. Rust-Oleum is a solid brand that would work well for the primer as well as whatever paint you want to go with as well. Latex style paint is a great choice for over oil based primer as well.
