Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Powerbuilt deluxe bearing packer. Now this deluxe plastic bearing packer will help you quickly and easily pack your vehicle's bearings without getting grease everywhere. It is a nice, one-person operation. And what's nice is this bearing packer will attach to any standard grease gun coupler.
You can see right up the top here, has a zerk fitting that a grease gun would attach to. And it has a nice, clear tool cavity, which will contain the grease and prevent it from leaking. These parts are a durable ABS and PP plastic construction. Now, they are designed to work on bearings up to 3 1/2 inches with outside diameter. Does also come with this nice dust cover to prevent dirt and debris from getting into the grease.
Comes with a nice set of instructions that'll describe how to do it. But basically, what you can see, there's the bottom portion right here. And they do have nice O-ring seals even here to prevent the grease from getting all over. And on the top portion, has the nice O-ring also. So basically, what you'll do is drop your bearing right in over that post.
Put this up on there. Once you get it in there, and then you'll just go ahead and tighten this down. And you snug it down all the way until it's over the bearing, has pressure on it. And then again, attach your grease gun to there and pump grease in there. And you'll know it's full when there's a little hole right in here in the top portion.
When the grease starts coming out that little bitty hole, then you know it's filled up. Then all you have to do is loosen this, and then take your bearing out, it'll be all packed. You won't have mess all over your hands or all over your shop. But it's a very nice feature. Like I mentioned, comes with this nice dust cover that'll fit over there when you're not using it to keep any dirt or debris from getting onto the grease. But that should do it for the review on this Powerbuilt deluxe bearing packer..
I'm new to packing bearings and thought this would be a simple way to pack bearings, use less grease, and be cleaner, not to mention being confident grease was forced into each bearing. Unfortunately not. I tried 4 bearings (2 outer & 2 inner), two facing up and two facing down. When the grease began coming out the small hole indicating it's done, I took them out (which was really messy and actually difficult to pull out the smaller bearings with my fingers), but each one had a three or four bearing section that I could see didn't get any grease through them. So, I had to re-pack them by hand anyway. Which actually forced me to learn how to do it by hand. Therefore, I realized you use less grease, it's cleaner, and you are confident you got all the bearings greased by doing it by hand instead of this packer. Furthermore, even though I have had great experiences buying from etrailer in the past, they aren't Amazon. When I returned this packer, I only received a 58% refund of the money I spent on the product and shipping. Just be sure you know you are going to keep what you buy, or you'll be getting a partial refund back.
Manually packing is easier this does not pack bearings and just makes a mess. Save your money.
Garbage. Zerk fitting was jammed and unable to accept any grease from 4 different grease guns. Grease just poured around Zerk fitting making the packer extra slippery and extremely messy, exactly what I was trying to avoid with this unit. Wasted so much time, until I broke the housing trying to get grease into chamber thinking it was user error.

Great product. Makes packing bearings a LOT easier and faster. Couple this with an electric grease gun and bearings are packed in minutes. Great tool.
This unit makes packing bearings incredibly easy. I would suggest using an electric grease gun though as it does require quite a bit of grease to fill the unit.
I wasn't a big fan of this product. I followed the directions and I ended up with grease packed on the outside of my bearings and none of it ended up on the inside where you need it. I tried it with 2 bearings and then gave up and packed the rest by hand. Next time I'll try on of the hand operated ones where the grease pushes from the inside out. I don't normally review products, but I was pretty disappointed with how this one worked.

I HAVE SPENT MANY HOURS HAND PACKING BEARINGS ON THE BOAT TRAILER. MY FRIEND GOT ONE (I LET HIM TEST IT FIRST) AND IT MAKES A QUICK JOB OF BEARINGS.
I ALWAYS BLOW THEM CLEAN FIRST SO IT MAKES REGREASING EASIER.

Glad to find a product that lets me repack my wheel bearings without getting grease all over myself.
A little disappointed. It really doesn't pack the bearings as much as it just thoroughly covers them in grease.
Easiest way I have found to pack wheel bearings unless you have someone else do it.
Would not buy again or recommend this to anyone. This thing is useless. Bearings are important and must be packed correctly. This does not evenly pack your bearings and you must still pack by hand after using this packer.

Grease fitting is extremely tight. I tried it with three different grease guns and had trouble getting grease into it each time. Definitely messy.
