If you're replacing a busted or rusted-out spring on your trailer - or if you've decided to upgrade to dacromet to avoid rusted-out springs down the line - the first thing you'll need to do is measure your existing leaf springs. Take a look at the measurements above. If these dimensions - and the weight rating - match what you currently have, you should be good to go.

Remember, though, your leaf springs can flatten a bit over time. And if you're measuring your spring while your trailer is fully loaded, the overall length that you get might be a bit more than what you need a brand new, unloaded spring to measure.

Rustproof Your Trailer Suspension with Dacromet

Double-Eye Diagram Dacromet

As you travel across highways and backroads, your trailer's leaf springs are going to corrode and flake over time. This is especially true if you have a boat trailer that's regularly submerged in water. Completely rusted-out springs on trailers are all too common, and these dacromet springs are a great solution to that problem.

Dacromet Versus Rusty Springs Comparison

Longer-lasting springs will save you money and are great for any trailer, but they are a must have for folks who live or play by the water. If you live on the coast, you're probably always rinsing the saltwater off of your trailer to try and keep rust at bay. If you're really worried, you might've even tried to repaint your springs or spray them down with rust inhibitors. But upgrading to these dacromet-coated leaf springs could cut down on or eliminate all of that maintenance, leaving you more time to spend out on the water.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. We conducted our own salt spray test and found that this dacromet coating lasts up to 744 hours before it begins to deteriorate. Compare that to some other dacromet coatings out there that are rated at just 300 hours - or zinc coatings that don't last for even that long - and you can be sure these springs will last.

Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

  • Leaf Spring Recommendation for 2015 Shorelandr that is Rust Resistant
Hey Josh, I have a solution for you but the spring you mentioned would be too long. Instead you'd want the part # e56FV which is 24-7/8 inches long, is also Dacromet coated and is for a 7k axle. What is your axle capacity? With that I can help you determine what disc brake components you need if you are still looking for that.

  • Replacement 26" Double Eye Leaf Spring for D52 Dexter Axle
Hey Scot, thanks for all of the details! The D52 on your axle should mean that the axle is rated for 5,200 lbs so if that 26" you measured is with the frame lifted up so there isn't pressure on the spring, then I recommend picking up the etrailer # e88SR which has a Dacromet finish and a slightly higher weight rating (6K) which will all help to increase the life of the leaf spring. If you measured the 26" with the weight of the trailer on the leaf spring, then you'll need something a...

  • Dexter EZ Flex Equalizers for 6,000 Pound Axles on a 2006 Heartland Bighorn 5th Wheel
The length is good on the EZ Flex system # K71-653-00 but the height may be different depending on where you are measuring that 4-3/4 inches. On the EZ Flex the distance from the center of the mounting hole to the center line between the 2 bottom holes, straight up and down, is 2-7/8 inches. If your 4-3/4 inch measurement is diagonal then you will be good to go with this kit. For a u-bolt kit you can use # APUBR-9. The shocks might actually feel more effective with the EZ Flex kit installed....

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Leaf Springs for 2007 Weekend Warrior Model CR3905
I was able to find out that your 2007 Weekend Warrior model CR3905 is triple axle trailer with a GVWR of 16k. That means for each axle you'd need a capacity of at least 5,333 lbs. Which means you most likely have 6k axles. We have a few options for that capacity for leaf springs but you'll need to measure the length of your current springs to be sure. If you have 26 inch long springs you'd need part # e94SR. If you have 25-1/4 inch long springs you'd need part # e78SR. You should note...

  • Does etrailer Sell Leaf Springs Made in USA
Hi Allen; none of the leaf springs we carry are made in the USA. However, we do have 6k leaf springs with your 25-1/4" measurement like the # e34SR or # e78SR. I understand wanting to buy US products but when it comes to leaf springs like these I wouldn't expect a large difference in quality. There are a few companies out there so if you're set on that just run a general search for "trailer leaf springs made in USA" and they should pop up.

  • Which Leaf Spring Do I Need For A Lippert 5200 Lb Axle
The 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles part # e94SR is rated for 3,000 lbs which would be what you need for a little more capacity when replacing a 2,600 lb spring that is 26" long. I was able to find the answer from Kyle and he also recommends the e94SR as well in his answer, the 4-leaf spring part # e27SR is not enough capacity because although it's for a 4,500 lb axle it's only rated for 2,000 lbs. The e94SR is a 6 leaf spring which does not matter when it comes to replacing...

  • Replacement/Upgraded Suspension Needed for a 2006 Keystone Raptor 3712TS Triple Axle Trailer
It can be difficult to locate information when it comes to suspension components for any trailer, but since you were able to give me ample information about your 2006 Keystone Raptor 3712TS triple axle trailer I have a solution for you! I recommend using the E-Z Flex Triple Suspension System Kit # K71-656-00 as an upgrade to your current suspension system. This has equalizers that measure 5-5/8" center-eye to center-eye and comes with shackles that measure 2-1/4" center-eye to center-eye....

  • Changing 3,500 Pound Trailer Axles to 5,200 Pound Axles
The first thing to consider is if the axle(s) are actually bent. Trailer axles have a bow in them so they are higher at the center than at the ends. When under load the axles straighten out some. That is part of how they get their capacities. If the axles are bent from damage then that is another story. Like you said the 5,200 pound axles that we have include spring seats that are on the bottoms of the axles. In order to have the spring stacks on top of the axles all you would need to...

You will want to remove your spring hangers and then weld them in a position that allows the shackles to hang properly. On a spring that is 26 inches eye to eye on center and a single axle trailer you will want the hangers to be up to 1/2 inch less than the spring length so 25-1/2 inches on center between the front and rear hangers. I looked up the Lippert 702095 leaf spring and it's a 25-1/4 inch long spring that has a 2,600 lb capacity per spring. The closest option we have is the etrailer Dacromet coated part # e28SR which is also 25-1/4 inches long but has a 2,500 lb per spring capacity. Since you have a 5,200 lb axle the next higher rated spring would be the part # e78SR which is a 6k axle rated leaf spring that is also 25-1/4 inches long and Dacromet coated. This would probably be your best choice since it would...

I would be happy to help you upgrade your 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2600RB Travel Trailer's axle's suspension and wheels/tires. Keep in mind that replacing your axles will not increase the GVWR of your trailer. You will still be limited to the lowest rated component which will be your trailer's frame. Based on the measurements you have given, the correct kit would be the # K71-657-00 Dexter E-Z Flex Suspension Kit - Double-Eye Springs - Triple Axle - 8,000 lbs. You want to use the short equalizers. The hangers you have are designed for the 7-3/4" short version. It would move the shackles into a horizontal position which would not allow the suspension to cycle. It should look...

  • Does The Amount Of Leaves On A Trailer Leaf Spring Matter?
The number of leaves on a leaf spring does not dictate strength or capacity, so as you said, a 3000lb rated leaf spring (6,000lb axle capacity) can have various numbers of leaves since it is up to how the manufacture designed it. I wouldn't look at the 7 leaf spring as having more durability or longer life since that is not how it works. As long as you replace the spring with a spring of the same rating and length, you'll be good to go! If your current eye to eye measurements are giving...

I wouldn't get to caught up in the amount of leaves your spring has as you can switch to a different amount of leaves if you are replacing them all.
