What Would Cause Trailer Equalizer to be Tilted to One Side After Install of New Leaf Springs

Updated 03/05/2026 | Published 03/04/2026

Question:

I have a question about my equalizer and leaf springs. I’ve got a 2020 grand design momentum 29g. I have a Dexter EZ flex kit K71-654-00, MORryde suspension upgrade kit MR46ZR and 6000 lbs leaf spring e88SR installed. All items bought from etrailer. I’m trying to figure out why my equalizer and leaf springs look like this and what to do to fix it. It’s parked on flat ground and even moving it forward or back does not make it level out. It looks like most the weight is on the rear tire. It’s the same on both side. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Matthew, what you you are experiencing is due to going with leaf springs that are too long and it forces the equalizer to kind of fold in on its self. I checked your order notes and you went with the part # e88SR which is a 26 inch long leaf spring for a 6k axle. So the correct spring that would fix the issue would be the part # e78SR which is 25-1/4 inches long instead. I know it sucks to have to buy new springs and redo all the work you did but it's unfortunately only way to fix it.

Sometimes a shorter equalizer from left to right can fix this but since you have the # K71-654-00 already and there isn't anything shorter this would not be the correct fix.

I spoke to your customer service before ordering and had measured my old springs before ordering. The old leaf springs were 26 inches as were the ones I ordered. After taking one off, I laid them side to side and they were the exact same length. I had talked to your customer service before to ask if it was ok to use e88RS because it had 6 levels of metal bars compared to the factory 5 levels of leafs that I was replacing. So did your rep give me the wrong advice on which leaf springs to order?

@MatthewP He did. When ordering replacement springs you have to consider that they stretch over time so you need to order replacements that are a little shorter. By stretch I mean they flatten out and then measure longer.
