The 8" channel-down design gives you more drop, which really helps when you’re setting up taller trailers. With three different mounting positions, you can fine-tune the coupler height so your trailer sits level. The five-hole bolt-on case fits a 3" wide tongue and works with a variety of couplers (sold separately), from ball couplers to lunette rings or clevis attachments. It’s a clean, adaptable setup that keeps your towing geometry right where it needs to be.
The composite master cylinder runs efficiently and resists rust and corrosion thanks to its glass-reinforced nylon construction. Inside, an acetal copolymer lining keeps the actuator moving smoothly as it telescopes in and out. The large reservoir gives you extra brake fluid capacity, and the automotive-style diaphragm cap seals the system to help keep contaminants out. It’s built for dependable hydraulic response every time your tow vehicle slows down.
This actuator uses heavy-duty steel covered in a black powder coat finish that helps it stand up to corrosion from weather, road grime, or marine use. The 5-hole bolt-on case is sturdy but easy to mount using 1/2" x 4-1/2" Grade 5 bolts (not included). Once installed, it delivers consistent braking performance for trailers with up to 12,500 lbs gross towing weight and 1,250 lbs maximum tongue weight.
If the trailer ever separates from the tow vehicle, the built-in breakaway engages the brakes automatically. It’s a simple safeguard that adds peace of mind during every trip. This surge actuator doesn’t include a reverse lockout, so pairing it with free-backing brakes makes reversing easy without triggering the brakes.
Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.

Today we're going to take a look at the Demco 8" Adjustable Channel Down Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator with a 12,500 hundred pound weight capacity. This hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when the tow vehicle slows or stops. It has a adjustable channel right up front here that has three different mounting positions for the type of coupler you're going to use and if you notice, it is a channel down design, so it allows for a greater drop to level up your trailer to your tow vehicle. On the back here, you can see that it uses a composite master cylinder. It's very durable and efficient. It uses a glass reinforced nylon construction to help resist rust and corrosion. It's a very large reservoir to provide increased capacity for brake fluid.
On the top here, you can see that it uses an automotive style diaphragm cap which creates completely enclosed system to help prevent any contamination of the brake fluid. On the inside of this actuator, it uses an acetone co-polymer lining to provide a nice smooth operation as this actuator telescopes in and out. The brake away is included; you can see it has the hook with the cable attached to the lever. Basically, what you'll do with this is attach this hook to your tow vehicle and, if by chance your trailer gets detached from your tow vehicle, it will pull on this cable which will pull the level forward and lock up the brakes to keep the trailer from a runaway situation. This actuator is made of a heavy-duty steel construction. You can see it has a nice black powder coat finish over it to help resist corrosion. At the very bottom you can see the mounting holes; this is a bolt on installation.
The five hole case right here is universal. It has five mounting holes on each side of the actuator. When you do bolt this on, it does require the use of five 1/2" by 4 1/2" grade five bolts for mounting. They are not included. We do sell those separately.
This part is made in the USA. A few specs on this. The applications on this is trailers with hydraulic drum brakes. The gross towing weight capacity is 12,500 pounds. Maximum tongue weight is 1,250 pounds. The channel width right up here, the inside measurement is going to be right at three inches.
The channel height from the very bottom to the very top, put the ruler on it, you can see is eight inches. This is designed to mount on a straight three inch wide trailer tongue and this also goes by the model number DA10. One last note on this I want to let you know is because that this actuator does not include a reverse lock out here, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with three backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse with the actuator triggering your trailer brakes.
