Features to know about

Replace Old or Weak Brakes: 7" Electric Drum Assemblies for 2,000-lb Axles

If your trailer brakes are dragging or not holding like they used to, these 7" x 1-1/4" electric drum brake assemblies make a solid upgrade. They’re rated for 2,000-lb axles and come as a left- and right-hand pair, both with rust-resistant e-coated backing plates. The setup bolts right onto a standard 4-bolt flange and fits 10", 12", and 13" wheels for easy compatibility with most small trailer hub-and-drum assemblies.

Automotive-Grade Pads Deliver Smooth, Confident Stops

The pads use the same friction material found in automotive drums and are fully bonded to the shoes, not riveted. That means you get quiet operation, steady braking torque, and no screeching when the lining wears down. The bonded surface gives more contact area for stronger stopping and a smoother feel. Tapered pad edges also help prevent chatter or lockup as the shoes wear in over time.

Close-up of etrailer 7-inch right-hand electric trailer brake assembly showing bonded tapered pads and rust-resistant backing plate for 2,000 lb axles.

Built Tough and Protected from the Elements

From rough roads to rain and grime, these brakes are designed to hold up. The e-coat finish on the backing plates helps fend off rust, while included adjuster plugs keep dust and debris out of the internal parts. QAI, CSA, and SAE-N certifications back up their build quality, so you can rely on consistent braking performance trip after trip.

DIY Installation Made Simple

Everything about this kit is set up for easy bolt-on installation. The assemblies come ready to mount—just add the mounting nuts and lock washers (sold separately). You only need an electric brake controller—no hydraulic actuator or lines required—and periodic manual adjustments can be done in minutes through the access plugs on the backing plate. It’s a straightforward way to refresh your brakes without taking your trailer to the shop.

Brakes were weak, had to run controller on level 12. Lost two of 4 dust caps on first trip. eTrailer would not replace dust caps. Bought replacement caps elsewhere. I would buy name brand next time.

Manually adjusted electric trailer brakes do require an initial adjustment, and need to be readjusted occasionally. To adjust the brakes, use a brake adjustment tool to turn the starwheel on the adjuster to expand the brake shoes until the wheel is very difficult to turn by hand. Then back off the starwheel in the other direction, about 10 clicks until the brakes drag slightly. Make sure all brake assemblies are adjusted in the same manner. Check out the video see link. Beginning at the 4:23 mark, our installer shows how to adjust your trailer brakes.

Good budget brakes

by:

It would have been nice to have the NUTS included with the brake assys.!!!

by:

We got everything we needed and Fast! Job done and ready for our next adventure! Thanks Celeste

by:

Prompt service, item as described. Trailer brake was easy to install, good performance from product.

by:

First purchase but not the last. Got them super quick and fit perfectly. Linda was awsome and a true asset for the company. I'd recommend E-Trailer to everyone for any and all trailer needs.

by:

Parts were loosely placed in shipping cardboard box and were bounced around causing the edges of the brakeshoes to get chipped by hitting each other. The box was open on one side when delivered due to not being securely taped closed.

by:

Thank you best shipping excellent customer service thank you very much

by:

Purchased electric brakes for a camper. Good price
Easy instructions seem to work fine.

by:

As always, items were received earlier than stated and in good condition. A service to help answer our DIY questions would be awesome tho!

by:

I'm so glad I ordered the new hubs/drums. My old ones were in good enough shape to reuse, but the new ones came with the pregreased bearings installed and grease seals in place which saved me lots of time.
Also, the shoes on the new brake assemblies were already adjusted perfectly to fit the new drum.

Sounds like a major win-win situation, Anthony! I'm glad that everything was an easy and smooth swap. Have you taken the trailer out for a tow and tested everything out yet?

by:

Worked perfect on my 2015 Aluma 8622 22' snowmobile trailer with Dexter 2200# axles. As others have said, I wish it would have included new nuts for the mounts, but they went on no problem. Seated in the brakes and they work perfect with my old drums. Glad to have brakes again!

by:

This setup made my life a lot easier, thank you

by:

Great kit, upgrading my trailer from the surge brakes that came with the trailer to electric. One note about these that's mentioned in the comments and the video it does not come with nuts and washers to install on your trailer (mistake in my opinion) but for me not a big deal. Just go get enough washers and nuts for your install. 7/16 FINE thread. Easy install, have not used them yet, still overhauling trailer.

by:

Brake assemblies seem fine, but they don't come with the mounting nuts! You have to purchase them separately. Others have pointed this out only to have an "e-expert" reply with a link to the mounting hardware and an implied "Duh!" So let me do their job for them, here is what should be in the product description- "BRAKE ASSEMBLIES DO NOT INCLUDE THE 8 FINE THREAD 7/16THS NUTS NEEDED FOR THE PRODUCT TO FUNCTION. YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE A SEPARATE PRODUCT TO HAVE A COMPLETE PRODUCT. UNLESS OF COURSE YOU WANT TO GET ELBOWS DEEP INTO YOUR PROJECT ONLY TO DISCOVER YOU HAVE TO STOP EVERYTHING AND GO TO LOWES TO GET 8 NUTS AND WASHERS."

Good Grief

by:

I replaced the original hydraulic brakes and hubs on a Jayco popup trailer. The electric brake and hub Assemblies are excellent and were an easy install. Haven't used the trailer during the Covid pandemic, but hope to soon.

by:

Kyle B was extremely helpful in guiding me to the correct brake assembly that I needed. Parts arrived on time with excellent shipping information follow-up.

by:

This is a review not of the product but the fact the assembly and the hub were shipped separately and is not coming for two more days. Plus we expected them Friday before we received. Shipping is not as predictable as it once was.

by:

The brakes look good, haven't had time to install them yet. I'm impressed with the packing, it's a good thing because USPS wasn't very careful with it, the box wasn't in good shape.

by:

I can't say that the product itself is bad, but the customer service experience was poor. I contacted them via email, but they never replied—specifically regarding the fact that my product wasn't going to arrive on time. I had paid extra for expedited shipping to ensure it would get here sooner, yet they didn't ship it until two days later. Consequently, I had to cancel my trip because my trailer wasn't ready; the parts simply didn't arrive by the scheduled date—the very date I had paid for with the shipping option I selected.

by:

My parts was delivered in quick timely matter. And, I ordered the right parts for my little trailer, and my son in law installed them for me right away.

by:

Perfect fit. Easy to swap out and rewire. Gary shipping

by:

Product looks great. Ordering and shipping was easy and fast. Will be installing them this weekend.

by:

Every time that I have ordered from eTrailer, the items have been just what I ordered with quick delivery. Resonable pricing, as well. eTrailer will continue to be my go-to trailer parts supplier.

by:

These parts were a great fit for my 2001 Coleman Sedona pop-up camper on a 2200 pound Axel. Just be advised if you also replace this part with new hubs and your Coleman pop-up does not have an outer bearing washer. The new one from E trailer does not fit, but there is a washer that will fit, especially if you buy a new 12 slotted spindle nut.

  • Replacement 7 inch Brake Assembly for Fiat Elnagh 320 Motorhome
Buongiorno! We do carry Replacement Magnet Kit for 7" Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies - 2,000 lbs Item # AKBRKR-M7. However, it looks like the center mounting hole on yours is round, whereas ours uses a square/rectangular hole. It doesn't appear that the hole on the # AKBRKR-M7 is large enough to allow the arm (on the brake assembly) to fit through. • Can Electric Brakes Be Added To A Small Camper Trailer Towed By A Motorcycle?
Hey Mick, thanks for reaching out. We might have a brake kit option for you, but we'll need to take a closer look at your axle to be sure its brake-ready. First, you'll want to make sure the axle is equipped with a brake flange. That is a square metal piece welded to the base of the spindle. It should have 4 holes in a square pattern. If no brake flange is present, you can have them welded on, or the axle can be replaced with one that is brake ready. If the brake flange is already present,...

These are 7 inch x 1-1/4 inch brake assemblies and are designed for 2,000 pound axles. The kit includes both the Left Hand and Right Hand assembly. They are designed to fit a 4 bolt mounting flange bolt pattern, so you will just want to ensure that your mounting flange uses 4 bolts. I have attached...

Based on the bearing and seal numbers you provided, with L44643 inner and outer bearings and a 34823 grease seal, those are compatible with 7 inch brake assemblies for a 2,000 pound axle.
