What Brakes do I Need for My Coleman Cobalt with Rectangle Mounting Flange?

I would like to purchase the replacement brakes AKEBRK 2 for my Coleman Cobalt. This product will fit but it has a circular hole where the current one on my axle is rectangular w ill i have to buy the mounting plates?

Hello Josh,

Thanks for writing in.

I can definitely see why you would think that, but the etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes - 7" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 2,000 lbs # AKEBRK-2 will bolt up to your rectangle mounting 4 bolt mounting plate. If you need the hardware as well, you will want the Mounting Hardware for 7" Brake Assemblies # BRKH7.

They have a circle in the middle, but if you look at the picture I attached, you will see that the bolts are in a rectangle shape. The picture is a little dark so I put hello dots on the end of the bolts so they are more visible.

@JoshH I would suggest taking the drums in and having them turned. My new drums didn't with well because they weren't true enough.

@Ben Thanks for the response Ben. When you got the new brakes and drums, did you do the break-in process? If you skip that step you never get the burnishing done.

I am not real happy with the brakes. My local trailer parts company tells me that the manufacturer is out of business (not sure thats true). I am having trouble with one side grabbing too much and one side not grabbing enough. I wish that I had purchased the Dexter brakes. Hope this helps, Ken

@Ken How did you break in the brakes after you installed them? I have learned over the years, that if you do not do the burnishing correctly, the brakes never work quite right. I attached our help article, it is step 4. Let me know if that fixes the issue.
