Hi there, I'm Michael with www.etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Kodiak 13-inch hub and rotor disc brake assembly set. This is going to allow you to upgrade your trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes so that you can take advantage of the superior performance that comes along with having disc brakes on your trailer. Or if you already have disc brakes and you're wanting to upgrade to a higher quality finish. These do have the dichromate plating on them so they are going to be a great upgrade for you as well. We do have the two brake assemblies here so it will be enough for you to upgrade a single 7,000 pound capacity axle with the number 42 spindles.
The rotors are 13 inches in diameter, and as you can see, we have eight of these 9/16th inch diameter wheel bolts. So that's gonna give us the 8 on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern. So these are going to work for your wheels that are 16 inches and larger. Our hub and rotors as well as our calibers and our caliber mounting brackets all have a dichromate finish, so they are going to provide excellent rust and corrosion resistance. They've got 300 to 400-hour salt spray rating on them because of that finish.
So this is gonna be a great option for your boat trailers or trailers that are used in coastal areas or on heavily treated roads, where they're gonna be coming into a lot of contact with salt and other corrosive materials. These are gonna hold up really well for you. So, definitely a great upgrade all around if you're looking at your good, better, best kind of scenario, I think the only thing better than the dichromate is a stainless steel construction. So if you're wanting the premium, that would be the way to go. But if you're not wanting to pay those premium prices, this is gonna be the second best option, and it's still gonna provide excellent rusting corrosion resistance for you.
Upgrading your trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes is going to provide extensive performance enhancement for you. So they do have these ceramic brake pads that are going to increase your stopping power. They have a large 2 1/2 inch diameter stainless steel piston that provides fast responsive braking for you. So it is going to dramatically shorten your stopping distance. It's also gonna be much smoother and more controlled than you're used to with your drum brakes, so it's gonna help keep your trailer from pushing and pulling as you're going down the road.
In addition to better performance, these are also going to require less maintenance than your drum brakes so it's gonna help save you time and money. We do have the one piece hub and rotor assembly that's gonna help reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear. On the side here, we do have the vented design that's gonna help dissipate your heat faster to prevent premature brake pad wear. Now your brake pads will wear down over time and we'll have to change those out eventually, but it's a pretty straightforward process and those are really the only components that you're gonna have to worry about changing out. You're not gonna have all the springs and other small components like your drum brakes, so it is gonna save you time and money over the long run. And these are a nice high quality automotive grade construction, so they are gonna be very long lasting for you. One caveat with upgrading from drum brakes to disc brakes is that disc brakes do require a higher line pressure than your drum breaks. And so you are gonna need to make sure that you've got a hydraulic brake actuator and brake lines that are rated for 1500 PSI or higher in order to properly activate these disc brakes. And if your trailer's already set up for drum brakes, it might take some doing to get it converted over to that higher line pressure. If you don't already have hydraulic brake actuator and brake lines rated for that 1500 PSI, we do have those available here at www.etrailer.com. Obviously it's not included in this kit, but this kit isn't gonna give you everything that you need, but it is going to give you the two dichromate-plated cast-iron hub and rotor assemblies with the eight pre-installed 9/16th inch diameter wheel bolts. You're also going to get 16 of these 9/16th inch zinc-plated steel lug nuts and that will hold your wheel in place. You've got the two dichromate-plated cast iron calipers as well as the two dichromate-plated ductile iron caliper mounting brackets. As you can see, these do have the five bolt brake flange configuration so it is gonna be very simple to get installed on your axle. One thing I do wanna point out is that these are mounted on top just for display purposes for balance but when you actually go to install them they'll be mounted on the side. Side support design puts all the weight on the mounting bracket itself instead of on your bolts. So it's gonna help your bolts last longer. You are going to get four of these stainless steel caliper mounting bolts. Two for each unit. We also have our inner and outer races that are pre-installed. Those will house our inner and outer bearings. Those will fit right into those races. Make sure everything's rotating smoothly for us. This system is lubricated with grease so we've got our two grease seals for the inside and our two EZ Lube grease caps for the outside. These EZ Lube caps have that rubber plug so if you have an EZ Lube spindle you can just pop that plug out, hook up your grease gun, pump some grease in there make sure everything's well lubricated. Much easier than having to take the cap off and go through the whole process there. So like I said, whether you're wanting to upgrade from drum brakes to disc brakes, or you already have disc brakes and you're wanting that higher dichromate finish, these are gonna be a great upgrade for you. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with www.etrailer.com, thanks for watching.

I decided to go with the Kodiak set up and we couldn’t be happier with the service with them. I feel that the trailer stops around 40 better.

I am sorry about that, Gregg. Sometimes orders are split due to availability. It looks like the second part of your order has arrived since your last review. Can you please confirm that you received everything in good condition?

Nothing new which is good news, although I will replace the bearings sometime this winter with Timken. This is the stock brake for Morryde IIS and it work well enough. The China bearing are what it comes with, but in an effort to not have to worrywonder, Timken is my choice. Not sure about some of the complaints but other than cardboard not holding up to heavy metal mine were new and good. I believe sometimes returns and part get put in a box a second time and that screws everyone up. Not being an upgrade, I am not sure there is another choice even if I wanted it.
