Kodiak Trailer Brakes - K2R526DS

Highlights

  • Stop Shorter and Smoother: Disc design gives consistent braking and dramatically shorter stops, even at highway speeds.
  • Fights Rust and Salt: Dacromet-plated rotors, brackets, and stainless calipers resist corrosion in freshwater or saltwater use.
  • Bolts Right On: Slip-on 12" rotors fit over standard idler hubs with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern for easy conversion.
  • Runs Cooler on Long Grades: Vented cast iron rotors dissipate heat to prevent fade or heat damage.
  • Built for Heavy Loads: Rated for 5,200-lb to 6,000-lb axles with 15" and larger wheels for strong braking torque.
  • Stays Smooth Over Time: Self-adjusting stainless calipers retract farther to reduce drag and deliver even braking.

Features to know about

Upgrade Old Drum Brakes to Reliable Disc Performance: Slip-On 12" Rotor Design

If you’re replacing worn drums or want stronger, smoother braking, this Kodiak Disc Brake Kit makes it easy. The 12" cast iron rotors slip over standard idler hubs and are held in place by your wheel bolts, so there’s no need to change the hub. Each assembly fits 5,200-lb to 6,000-lb axles with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and works with 15" or larger wheels. The result is shorter stopping distances and dependable braking even at highway speeds.

Corrosion Protection That Handles Freshwater or Saltwater: Dacromet and Stainless Steel Build

Rust can ruin brake performance fast, especially around water. These rotors and brackets are Dacromet-plated for superior corrosion resistance with a 300- to 400-hour salt-spray rating. The calipers and pistons are stainless steel for complete protection in freshwater or saltwater use. It’s a setup built to last season after season without seizing or surface damage.

Smooth, Equal Braking Every Time: Self-Adjusting Stainless Steel Calipers

The stainless steel calipers are self-adjusting for consistent braking on both wheels. Their low-drag design retracts the piston farther than most models, helping the brakes run cooler and reduce wear. With a 2-1/4" stainless steel piston—30 percent larger than many others—you get more braking torque and smoother response with every stop.

Built Strong for Heavy Loads: Durable Brackets and Smart Mounting Design

Each Dacromet-plated mounting bracket uses a side-support angle that carries the load on the bracket instead of the bolts. Extra embossing adds thread strength for a secure fit between the caliper and bracket. The vented rotor design dissipates heat effectively to prevent fade and heat damage during long downhill runs or heavy towing.

Complete Kit for One Axle: Ready for Hydraulic Activation

This kit includes two full brake assemblies—each with a Dacromet-plated cast iron rotor, stainless steel caliper, Dacromet-plated mounting bracket, and caliper bolts. It’s designed for axles with a 5-bolt brake flange configuration (flange sold separately). A hydraulic brake actuator and lines rated to at least 1,500 psi are required to activate the brakes. A 3-year warranty backs the setup for dependable use over time.

As always, a quality product from E Trailer. Easy install even for an old guy working alone. Have them installed & bleed, but still cold here in the northeast, & the boat is still all wrapped up.

Very easy to install. Would recommend this product if you want a total brake kit.

Installed this new Kodiak Disc Brake kit to replace a Tie Down Engineering set. The performance of these new brakes is phenomenal. I only have one season on them in and out of the salt water. I'm hoping that the Stainless Steel calipers will stand up over time.

The Stainless calipers and disc brake set are still functioning great after 2 years. I also installed an Electric over Hydraulic brake actuator to replace the surge brake actuator

Easy install on to my double axel EZ-Loader boat trailer. I replaced the factory oil bath hubs with new hubs and the brake drums/backing plate units with this disc brake kits. It all works really good! My boat & trailer sees a lot of salt water/Puget Sound. I've very happy with this set-up! Smooth stops!
by:
Very easy to install. 2 hours from start to finish for two axels. Kit should come with bracket bolts though!
by:
Submitted my order and it was shipped that same day. Order arrived earlier than was projected so I got my trailer together and was out on the water

After one year the brakes work just like they are brand new The only thing I should have done was buy SS rotors.

by:
Fast service and great products. Easy install.
by:
I HAVE THIS SET UP WITH FULL STAINLESS ON MY BOAT AXLE #1, BUT FOR AXLE #2 I FIGURED I WOULD TRY THE STAINLESS/DACROMET SET UP. NOT INSTALLED YET BUT ALL LOOKS GOOD. I ONLY HOPE I DONT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ONE OF THE CALIPERS LEAKING WHERE THE BRAKE LINE FITTING SCREWS IN LIKE THE 1ST SET OF STAINLESS CLIPERS!
by:
Good product-WAY better than the factory brakes that came on my EZloader! Fair price. Easy to order.
by:
After one year and many trips to salt water, these are holding up about as well as you can expect them to. Way better than the cheap sets. No rust on the calipers at all. I do rinse trailer in fresh water after every trip.

Had a brake issue while on vacation.

  • How To Determine The Correct Disc Brakes For Triple Axle Aluminum Boat Trailer
Hello Justin, thanks for reaching out. If you are needing to replace just one hub or rotor, I would need to know exactly what brand of brakes you have currently. Replacement brake parts are brand specific, and there would be no way to look up your trailer to know what you have. For a hub I would also need to know your inner and outer bearing sizes, since the 5,000 lb axles do not really have a standard for that. If you are looking to replace everything on all 3 axles I would mainly need...

  • Will The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit K2R526DS Fit A 2008 Airstream Classic Limited?
Hi Stephen! I couldn't really find an information on a 2008 Airstream Classic Limited, so I would need more info to make sure. Do you know the capacity of your axles? There should be a tag/sticker at about the mid point of the axle with that info. If the tag/sticker is gone, which does happen, I can also figure it out with the GVWR of your camper. Next, are your current disc brakes the kind that slide onto a 6 on 5.5 bolt patter idler hub, like the # DE96VR? If you can get me those,...

  • Replacement Rotors And Brake Calipers For A 2015 Load Rite Boat Trailer
Hey Douglas, Load Rite unfortunately doesn't list the part numbers that they used so we'll have to determine the bearing/grease seal combination, wheel bolt pattern, and axle capacity to determine the correct replacements. For the bearings/seal you can either remove them from the hub or remove the hub and measure the spindle at points B, C, and D with a digital caliper # PTW80157. I've attached a guide below for determining your wheel bolt pattern. The axle capacity isn't as necessary...

You'll also need a brake line kit like part # DM5424 and an actuating coupler like part # 099-175-20 for a 2 inch trailer ball. I've linked you to an FAQ article that shows everything you'll need to think about when you're adding hydraulic disc brakes to a trailer.
