Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Bike Carrier Standard Cradles Replacement Review

Hi everyone. It's Evie Angeline here at etrailer. And today we are looking at the replacement cradles and straps for your Hollywood racks bike rack here at etrailer. Some reasons you might want to pick up these cradles and these straps is if you have a Hollywood racks bike rack that fits these, these fit an inch and a quarter arm. And if they've been out in the sun or in extreme weather conditions, you may notice especially with the straps that they lose their elasticity. And if you also want a longer strap for your current setup this is a great way to replace them.

This kit comes with two rubber straps as well as two of your standard cradles. We also have other kits depending on your needs. If you need to replace your anti-sway cradle, we have a kit with that as well as another cradle and some straps or we even have a set of all straps. If you want to replace those, the straps themselves are made of a nice rubber material it's really strong but also has enough elasticities to wrap around your bikes frame and keep it secure as for the strand they're standard cradles these fit again an inch and a quarter. Some arms are an inch in diameter.

So make sure you get the right cradles for the right arms. Some tips, just to make sure you get the most out of your replacement parts or to make sure you don't need to replace as quickly is to rotate the straps every now and then let's say if you like to use the one closest to the car more than you do the end strap. Then you can replace it to make sure that you get the equal amount of wear and tear kind of like how you replace your tires or rotate your tires. You can also rotate your straps. Another pro tip that I've learned while using these bike racks is that while you are driving around, even if you don't have a bike on your bike rack please secure both ends of your straps so that they're not flopping around as you drive around and they're less likely to become damaged or lost.

Depending on your bike rack, taking off the cradle. To replace them may be little bit difficult, especially on the inch and a quarter arms, since they are larger. It took all a lot of effort from me and I even had to use a rubber mallet at some points just to get them into position. So please keep that in mind as you replace them let's take a look at how to install the replacement cradles to replace your cradles. You first need to take off the end cap.

So I use a Phillips screwdriver just to take off the screw underneath And pop that off from there. You can then slide on well off your old cradle and then slide your new one right in. Now keep working at that cradle and trying to get it back onto the arm. You may need to rotate it as well. Use some soap, or sanitizer before you had it on there but once you do, you can then put your replacement strap onto the knobs of the cradle. And once it's on there, that's it for the install after you put the end cap back on. My final thoughts about these replacement parts is that they do really well in replacing whatever you already have on your Hollywood racks bike rack. Now these do fit an inch and a quarter. So at first you may be confused about which fits your bike rack. So just measure the diameter of the arm, and then that's the size that you need as for the install process the larger ones we're kind of difficult to install. I mean, they worked, I didn't have to use any tools for the cradle, but the actual elbow grease and arm effort was a lot that I kind of did not enjoy but it worked and I replaced them and they are good to go. And that was a look here at a replacement cradles and straps for your Hollywood racks bike racks here at etrailer..

Very pleased service from order to delivery. This part is still in box because need for bike rack delayed. Would recommend this company for appropriate rack parts.

These worked fairly well on my old Rhode Gear rack even though they are a little big compared to the original carriers. Better to be a little big versus a little small...

Really refreshed my old bike rack and made it much more convenient than struggling with the old and frayed velcro straps. Just make sure you measure the diameter of the racks on your bike rack first, I ordered the wrong size at first.

They are what I needed. Will give my old bike rack a few more years of functional life.

Bottom line: the product worked well for my needs More importantly, the service the etrailer team gave when I reported a problem was excellent. I ordered two bags of the 1-1/4" cradles. The package contained one bag of 1-1/4" cradles and one package erroneously marked as 1-1/4" cradles, but with 1" cradles. I reported this and promptly (3-4 days) received a replacement bag. Once again, the bag was erroneously marked as 1-1/4" cradles, but contained 1" cradles. I called etrailer and spoke with a representative to explain what had happened. I also requested that someone ensure that the bag contain the appropriate size. This was done and I received a new bag which in fact did contain the 1-1/4" cradles (and was marked properly). While I wish that I never had to reach out to customer service, they were extremely helpful and ensured that I received what I had ordered. The cradles are good for replacing broken or torn bike cradles for the bike rack. Definitely a less expensive alternative than buying a new rack.

Fit my old Hollywood rack nicely - once I removed the protective sleeves from the hanging bar.

Ordered three cradle sets. The packaging stated that these cradles worked with both 1” and 1-1/4” tubes. I tried to put them on but they were really tight. I put them into a pot of boiling hot water and that made all the difference. It was still a little hard but they went on with a little bit of soap and muscle. The product is high quality. Would definitely buy again if I needed to but I think they will last a while.

Good quality aftermarket part that works as well as the much higher priced name brand. The website made it easy to find and order the parts. I recommend the replacement part and etrailer.com

Pretty d**n good. I have an old Cabelas bike rack. The rack is steel with 1 1/4" OD tubes. The ID of the of the carriers sent are just slightly smaller. I tried a few times to get the carrier on the tubes but never got far. I finally took the carriers and put them in boiling water, previously shaved the material back slightly with a sharp knife so that it was angled. I took liquid soap and lubed the tubes. I was able to get the carriers on the tube but did have to use a hammer and block of wood. They are on now and work great! I am ordering three more sets to fill the rack completely up.

I used these 1 1/4" cradles to replace the broken ones on a XPORT bike rack made by Slipstream. The fit was quite snug, so I applied some hand soap (slightly diluted) to the inside of the cradle and the bike rack tube. Then I simply used a hammer and a piece of wood to tap them into place. The straps are a little more pliable than my previous ones, which is nice.

Worked perfectly!

I was looking for replacement straps as three out of six had dry rotted and broke. I was unable to get factory replacements. After reading the description On the trailer site I ordered two sets. I was happy with the quality and they fit nicely on my bike carrier. They were slightly larger than the rails on my carrier and moved around. I put a self tapping screw in each to keep them in position. Perfect!!

Installation instructions would have been helpful. But overall a good product.

The old cradles on my bike rack were crumbling so I wanted to replace them because I like the rack. The rack tubing is 1 1/4 inch and the new cradles are a really tight fit. (1) Clean the tubing (2) lube it up (3) soak the cradles in some hot water (4) jam them on while hot. The rack is now good as new.

My Hollywood Rack has been cross country twice and never missed a beat. The rack is 6 years old i lost a strap. etrailer has the straps and the mounts in stock at an awesome price. I got spares too. Lightning fast shipping and customer service 2nd to none

This and the other bike rack brackets we bought here fill a need . They are difficult to do without . Racks take abuse and parts wear and are hard to find. Try making one on your own! These will fit normal bikes in many angles and positions. Thanks.

- HR750-P
by:

After 1 year no problems! Would definitely buy this again. Without these tie doens my Cabelas steel bike rack was useless. Just like new now (minus a few scratches).

- HR750-P
by:

Exactly what I ordered and came super fast, my only complaint is that the parts cost way more than the manufacturer asks. But overall great experience!

Please make sure Rebecca got my email with the photo. She is a wonderful sales person.

  • Replacement Frame Cradle Recommendation for Bell Bike Rack with 1 inch Diameter Arms
The # 853-7887 is designed to fit a 1 inch diameter tube. If the arms of your rack are 1 inch in diameter this cradle would work, and then for a strap use # 852-3006-001. For a anti-sway cradle you would want the part # 853-7758.

  • Are There Replacement Cradles for a Yakima DoubleDown?
The Replacement SuperCush Cradle, # 8880597, will not work with a Yakima DoubleDown, because the SuperCush works with 1-1/8" diameter rack arms. The DoubleDown uses replacements that are 1-1/4", such as # Y8890177. There are replacement cradles from other manufacturers that also fit arms up to 1-1/4" such as the Hollywood # HR750-P, but for the best fit for the rack, I recommend using Yakima replacements on your Yakima rack. If the cradles are becoming too difficult to work with, you...

  • Will Hollywood Rack Replacement Cradles Fit Other Bike Racks With 1-1/4 Inch Diameter Arms
Yes, so long as your bike rack - in your case a Rola - has 1-1/4 inch diameter arms, you can absolutely use the Replacement Standard Cradles for Hollywood Racks Bike Carrier with 1-1/4" Arms # HR750-P. The cradles are made by Hollywood racks but will fit any bike rack with 1-1/4 inch diameter arms.

  • Need Wider Cradles for Hollywood Racks Bike Rack to Accommodate my New Mountain Bike
I spoke with my contact at Hollywood Racks and he said that there will be some surgery required to get your current bike rack cradles to accept the wider frame on your new mountain bike. Hollywood Racks does not manufacture a wider cradle but said that you can cut your current cradles in half and just spread them apart to accommodate the wider frame on your new mountain bike. You shouldn't have any problem with the rubber straps, they will be long enough to fit the new set-up.

  • Replacement Straps for a Bike Carrier and Montague Mountain Bike with 4 Inch Tall Frame
I measured the amount of space from the bottom of a cradle to the strap in the widest position and on # HR750-P it was only 2-3/4 inches unstretched so it would not work with a 4 inch tall frame. Straps # 8890221 are 9 inches long so you are looking at approximately 4-1/2 inches of possible space, depending on the cradle, minus about 1/2 inch for the material at the ends of the straps and that takes it down to approximately 4 inches, loner when stretched. I believe this set is going...
