Features to know about

Confident Winter Driving on Snow and Ice: Square Link Diamond Pattern Grips and Smooths the Ride

These chains keep you moving when the roads turn slick. The square links bite firmly into snow and ice for dependable traction, while the diamond pattern keeps that grip constant as you roll—no slipping between contact points. You’ll also notice the smoother feel compared to ladder-style chains, so the ride stays steady even on icy grades or frozen gravel. Traction plates crush through patches of ice for an extra layer of control.

Skip the Hassle of Retightening: Self-Tensioning System Adjusts Automatically

No need to stop and recheck your chains once they’re on. The Konig design automatically tightens and centers itself as you drive, keeping the fit snug and secure. Just make the front connections and go—these 12 mm thick, Class S-compatible chains take care of the rest. For anyone who’s had to crawl around in freezing slush to readjust, this simple self-tensioning feature is a game changer.

Protect Your Wheels While You Drive: Nylon Bumpers and Coated Hooks Prevent Damage

Cold metal against polished rims can spell trouble, but not here. The side chains are powder coated for durability, the hooks are plastic-coated so they won’t freeze to your fingers, and nylon bumpers keep the chains from scratching your wheels. Everything is built to guard the finish of your rims while still locking tight over the tire tread.

Built to Last in Harsh Winter Use: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel Resists Corrosion

Each link is made from high-quality manganese nickel alloy steel that stands up to road salt, slush, and repeated use. The steel’s hardness helps prevent wear while keeping the chain flexible under heavy loads. You can rely on this durable setup season after season without worrying about rust or weak spots.

Fits Tight Spaces with Ease: Class S Design for Limited Wheel-Well Clearance

Even vehicles with small wheel wells can run these chains safely. They meet SAE Class S standards and require just 1/2 inch of internal clearance, giving you dependable traction where other chains might rub. If you need a high-performance chain that fits where space is tight, these strike the balance between clearance, strength, and everyday drivability.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

I’ve just started using eTrailer and both transactions have been flawless. They will be getting all of my business now that I see how reputable and professional they are. Simple a great on-line retailer!

by:

The service was very good. The sales people were excellent and genuinely concerned that I get the right fit for my tires.

by:

Chains look great. Smart design and quality materials. Solid construction. I hope I never need them, but need them for the mountain passes in the winter. etrailer never disappoints. I’m a repeat buyer. First rate operation, great, knowledgeable sales folks.

by:

Extremely helpful customer service, and got my purchase to me within a very tight time frame. The recommended Konig XG12 Pro chains are well engineered and a perfect fit. They go on quickly and easily. GREAT product. VERY satisfied.

by:

After receiving these, I put them on one tire in good weather. My 2012 Ram with 265/70 17 was setting in a gravel driveway. I had the chain on in about two minutes. I have no idea when these will be needed but when the time comes I certainly won't hesitate putting them on. When I drove truck, I hated getting out and chaining up. Nice to be retired. Even nicer not worrying about having to chain up. And if I may, it's nice NOT to see....made in China. Way to go Italy!

by:

These snow chains are everything I'd hoped they would be. Very easy to install and remove. Highly recommend Konig snow chains

by:

Great product. Super purchase experience at etrailer.com, glad to be surprised.

Chains are as advertised and reviewed elsewhere, effective and easy to install. Hopefully they work well enough with AT tires.

by:

I have not had to use these in snow/ice yet but I have put them on twice to test them. They are easy to install and the self adjusting function seems to work. The cord on the self adjuster is like a heavy elastic bungee and might wear out with frequent use but for in frequent use or for emergency situations which is why I bought them, they are more than adequate.

by:

These chains are quick and easy to install with a little practice. They grip in snow and ice incredibly. We had 10” of snow last winter that froze to ice and the chains pulled through and gripped well.

by:

The directions were confusing at first, but by combining the directions on the case with the ones in the manual it finally made sense. Make sure to wrap the colored end *under* the axle and not over as it appears to be in the directions. Once you figure it out you can have it mounted in a minute or two. Much easier than chains that must be levered closed with air pressure reduced (then re-inflated) for a tight fit. I haven't had the chance to drive with them yet.

by:

Our first order was lost in transit but the etrailer folks were on it!! They called me, explained what the shipper told them and reshipped immediately! Excellent service and I love the product. We live in N.NV and chains are essential in the winter…these are easy on and off and do the job well.

by:

Just finished dry fitting these chains on rear of my Chevy Silverado 1500 LT 4 x 4. Before doing so I watched a couple of available videos on etrailer.com. Installation went very well; chains fit tight and secure without difficulty. Quality of product appears to be in line with pricing. Chains shipped from Missouri on time and without delays.

by:

I put the chains on in good weather to make sure I knew how. It took a little longer the first time, learning that you must orient the chains just as shown in the videos. After doing it once, it was easy to repeat the process. They fit perfectly and worked perfectly last winter. Lightweight, easy on and off, I'm very happy with them. They are a bit expensive, but the convenience has been worth it to me.

by:

This product worked as advertised with the self-tensioning system - don't worry if its not perfectly aligned when you first put them on, but driving a little ways (~25 yards) and it centered on the tires by themselves! I put them on before heading out on the lake for ice fishing and the chains worked great on the ice and snow when pulling the fish house. I'd recommend practicing in the garage at home so you know what you are doing beforehand, especially if gets near zero where you live - but they are easy to put on/off once you've done it.

by:

These chains are absolutely excellent. There are good visual instructions within the kit, and there is also an excellent video demonstrating installation. I was able to install them within 5 minutes.

Another great feature is the ease of laying out the chains prior to installation as well as adequate room and ease of placement back into the kit when the chains are removed.

Would be reasonable to obtain a gardening pad and light gloves to place within the kit.

Though thee chains do cost more than cables, in this case, " You get what you pay for", and the cost is commensurate with the quality of construction and ease of use.

by:

Expensive but seem worth the cost. I'm a big believer in the "buy once, cry once" philosophy, and don't mind paying a premium for quality that will last. Time will tell on the long-term durability of these chains (the retractable bungee and its plastic connectors give me pause, but we'll see), but my initial assessment is that they're well designed and well built, and are by far the easiest to put on chains I've used. I'll update this review after the snowy season with my thoughts on performance relative to traditional chains I've used in the past, as well as their durability.

P.S. watch the installation videos. They're much more informative than the manual that comes with the chains

by:

I purchased the XG-12 Pro chains for my truck, although I have a 4X4 I live in Alaska, we get frequent ice storms. Rather then beating my truck up I’m using these chains on the back wheels for better traction. Easy to install and adjust in a few minutes I can climb out of my valley with confidence, no more slipping or sliding. I can control my vehicle completely and stay on my side of the road even when being stopped on a slope I can start forward progress without slippage. Once on main roads, only minutes to remove. I’d recommend this product to anyone, was the answer for the issues I encounter in Alaska. Firm traction when I absolutely need it when my all season radials just don’t quite handle the situation. Awesome, easy to handle and reliable chains!

by:

Very happy with the transaction and quick delivery.

by:

Very hefty set of chains with a good carrying case. Once I finally figured out the installation it turns out to be very easy - you don't have to move the vehicle at all to get them fully installed. But they were so tangled up on arrival it took me 5-10 minutes just to figure out how to untangle them. Installation was very non-intuitive (having never used chains before - just auto-socks). The instructions provided were pretty much worthless but some online videos made it clear. Now that I've figured it out I can install them pretty quick and easy. With adequate care in storing, the tangling can be minimized. Will likely soon put them to use in the mountains now that there's snow on the ground but as beefy as these are I feel confident they'll perform just fine.

by:

I’ve used these a few times on my TRD Pro 4Runner’s Nitto Terra Grappler tires to comply with Yosemite NP’s chain controls. Even in my first practice runs (ALWAYS practice in the warm) they were a straightforward exercise to mount. I’d definitely recommend a gardener’s knee pad for comfort. Keeps me comfortable to take the time for a good mount, a definite plus along with dry knees.

They stayed tight with no signs of wear even with some limited bare asphalt miles. The hard carry case makes always having them in the truck a no brainer: and the best chains are the ones in your truck, not on your garage shelf.

by:

Just received the chains a couple of days ago. Practiced on one tire-very easy to install, or so it seems. Can't say anything yet about how they hold up, or performance. Seem to be well made. This 5 star rating is mostly for the customer service I received from etrailer. It was fantastic. Would highly recommend them.

by:

Purchased for use of a 2019 JL Wrangler. Seem very high quality, will be trying them out in Montana January 2020. Definitely easy on, easy off install. I would suggest trying them on the vehicle prior to initial use in the intended climate. Right out of the box they were stored appropriately and not tangled. Easy to place back in storage container. Will be purchasing a set for the wife's and in-law's vehicles providing they excel in winter climate, but have no doubts they will.

by:

Never used chains before. Bought these for my 2021 Jeep grand Cherokee. They works perfect! Tried them out in a trip to mammoth. Very rough conditions but they got the job die and got us through rough snow and ice. Best part they were easy to install. When chains required, took me less than 15 min to then in vs other struggling with conventional chains. Getting ready again for this upcoming winter. Thank you for the great videos and features allowing me to buy with confidence.

by:

These chains are excellent quality and super easy to install. I watched the video and hold them out of the package line them up. Click them together. The tensioner works great. I rolled the truck back-and-forth. They are on and tight. It is well worth the money to have something high-quality that will work more than once.

  • What Does Class S Mean For Snow Tire Chains
Some newer cars, vans and small trucks, especially those with large, aftermarket tires, may require the use of Class S chains. Class S tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. I have attached a photo that shows the areas where clearance for Class S tire chains is needed. For the A dimension a minimum of 1.46inches (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well is needed. For the B dimension, at least 0.59 inches (15 mm) between the...

Hey Werner. I checked your Traverse's owner's manual and it said that the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse can only use tire chains if you have 255/65R18 size tires. That being said, the smallest chains we have for a 265/65 R18 tire are the Konig Tire Chains item # TH01594267. You will want to mount them on the front tires according to the owner's manual. Please note that these chains require a minimum of 1/2" of clearance around the tires. Are you in an area where you need to use the chains...

Hey Bill, thanks for the pictures! For your dually's 245/75-17 tires, I recommend the Konig Tire Chains item # TH01594267. These have square links which will give you outstanding grip and are also a diamond pattern, which means they get the best overall tire coverage as well. Additionally, these are class S compatible so if you do decide to double up on your rear chains you won't have to worry about damaging any brake or suspension components.

You ask a very good question. Tire chains that are rated as S-Class compatible are suitable for use on passenger vehicles that have limited clearance in the wheel wells.
