Can Tire Chains/Cables Be Used On 2024 Honda HR-V With 225/55-18 Tires?

Question:

I have hrv 2023 sports with 225/55 R18 chain and cable are not recommended. I bought Glacier cable tire chain PW1042 from this website. Is this gonna work? Thank you

Hey Ryan, thanks for reaching out. Honda doesn’t recommend any chains or cables on the 2023 HR-V with 225/55R18 tires because there’s simply not enough clearance in the wheel well, so even low-profile cables like the Glacier # PW1042 aren’t considered safe.

Konig K-Summit chains like part # th02230k45 are one of the few designs made for tight-clearance vehicles since they mount externally to a lug nut and keep the hardware off the inside of the tire, and in theory they’re the best chance of fitting without interference. That said, even with their clever design, they still go against Honda’s “no chains on 18-inch tires” guidance, so you’d be using them at your own risk. The safest plan for this vehicle is a dedicated set of winter tires, especially if you regularly drive in snow or ice.
