Features to know about

Tired of Spinning Out on Snowy Hills: Square Links Bite In for Steady Grip

These diamond-pattern chains use square links that dig into snow and light ice to give you solid forward traction and control. The design keeps a steady contact patch on the road so you can keep climbing steep or icy grades without slipping. Even on packed snow or frosty driveways, the small link size smooths out the ride and cuts down on bumpiness compared to basic ladder chains.

Frustrated by Chains That Are a Pain to Mount: Built-In Assisted Tensioning Gets You Rolling Fast

When the weather turns, you don’t want to waste time fiddling in the cold. These chains tighten fast with their built-in tensioners — no tools and no extra rubber bands needed. Just fit the chain around the wheel, connect the color-coded hooks and clips, give the integrated tensioners a pull, and you’re done. Because the tensioners are attached, you never have to worry about losing them in your trunk or snow.

Need Strong Chains That Last More Than a Season: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel Fights Wear and Rust

The high-quality manganese nickel alloy steel resists corrosion and stands up to repeated use through harsh winters. The powder-coated side chain helps protect your wheel rims, while the hardened links hold their shape even after miles of use in wet, salty conditions. With proper care, these hold up year after year without seizing or breaking down.

Limited Clearance in Tight Wheel Wells: Class S Design Keeps You Safe

If your vehicle doesn’t leave much room inside the wheel well, these chains meet SAE Class S clearance requirements with just 1/2" internal clearance needed. That low-profile design helps prevent damage to suspension or brake components while still giving you dependable traction in snow and light ice.

Keeping Gear Organized After the Storm: Compact Set Stores Easily

When the roads clear, you can tuck everything away neatly. The pair of chains fits into a durable nylon storage bag that slides right into your trunk without taking up much space. Lightweight and easy to carry, they’re ready whenever winter calls again.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Great service.. Fast delivery.. Product as advertised.. Haven't used the chains yet .. bought them because of other user's reviews from different websites

by:

I use the chain yesterday to bring my Nurse wife who works night shift to her work in the hospital. I live here in Long Island New York and she works in Jamaica Hospital in Queens. The chain makes it easy for me to navigate the snow. Would highly recommend to everyone who needs to be in a road in a severe weather like snow storm.

by:

Only 4 stars bc they aren’t the fancier self adjusting version.

by:

Thule tire chainsGreat chains and great customer service.

by:

Fantastic! Fast service!

by:

Fast shipping. Nice quality product. Haven't had the chance to use them yet---but the instructions look nice and clear.

by:

The chains came in earlier then expected. Easy installation and instruction are thorough.

by:

These chains are easy to install. It takes only a few minutes to install them and be on the road again. You don't have to lay in the snow and/or get under the car to install them. Of course the second part is the traction they provide. The car was not safe to drive on such slippery snow pack to no problem at all.

by:

So far, so good. Got my chains in three days after I receiving a free upgrade in shipping rate. Chains have yet to be tested.

by:

I haven't tried the product so this review for the product is relatively useless. ETrailer dot com however had absurdly ridiculously quick service. I would shop them again with confidence.

by:

NOTE: Ended up not needing chains, so I cannot attest to how well they would have performed. However, I did a test run and put them on the tires at home (wearing leather gloves) and was pleased with how simple it was.

by:

Price was competitive / product looks good / yet to encounter weather to use the chains ....thanks again!!

I did set up training area with tire off car to teach college kid to install chains.

by:

Wasn't sure there'd be snow for my trip to Big Bear last year, but we ended up using the chains twice. Easy on, easy off. Highly recommend.

ettrailer is my go-to for online purchases on anything vehicle related.

I already have this Konig set for the minivan, and now this smaller set will secure our sedan in case anything goes wrong. My wife is a physician and needs to get to and from the hospital securely no matter what weather - people need doctors all the time. I am very pleased that etrailer shipped our chains day-of and they got here on time, in perfect condition. I can trust the products that are listed for sale on this site, and I can trust I get the best deal on shipping, and hopefully this is a good review.

Installation was simple enough for me who has no experience at all. The manual has some translational issues, but overall, just remember when threading the inside cord around the wheel, pull the rest of the chain matter through as well, then the process of tautening, spreading, and evening out the part is fairly straightforward. Save your bacon! Get chains. For $100 versus buying a car with 4WD, I think this is a great value.

by:

I [feel bad], I haven't practiced with putting it on. I have the miracle car for Norther Minnesota! It all depends on the township plowing schedule. If they plow in a timely manner, I can get back off highway on road. If they don't I'm spinning with my cheap Ferrari. Yeah the car is great in fall Spring, summer! (VW TDI jetta). That's not to mention my hilly divided cement 6" pads driveway with glaze. I heard wolves at 03:00 scraping concrete to get to work!
Gave you guys laugh for the day! You guys and girls, do great work! I'll get the Silverado out next time! Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

by:

so far so good. i spent an afternoon practicing putting them on and taking them off. got it down to about 7 minutes for both. just waiting for a nice ice storm to really try them out!

also wanted to mention the customer service from etrailer was great. they mistakenly told me my order shipped the same day when in fact the item was not in stock. the next day i got an email and a phone call apologizing and asking if i wanted a different item, a refund or just wait till the chains came in. 2 days later they arrived. they were totally on top of it. thanks...

by:

These Thule chains look a little light for long lasting, but time will tell. My only comment pre-use is that the directions for installation would have been just as helpful if written in Chinese.

Etrailer has made a few videos to review the installation of these chains onto vehicles to show all the steps to supplement the basic included instructions. It is always recommended to do a few trial runs to familiarize yourself with the process, prior to being caught in the storm

by:

Super easy to install, and the case is nice to store them in my car. Plan on using this winter to get to and from my cabin.

by:

Of course since I bought these tire chains, we have not received enough snow in my area of the country (mid-Atlantic) to actually test them under road conditions. However ...
I do recommend that you practice installing these chains BEFORE you need to use them. It is not intuitively obvious how they get installed on your tires, and the pictograph directions are not the best. The mounting system is more complex (but probably more robust and secure) than the simpler systems of 20+ years ago. You should also be aware that after first mounting the chains, the car must be driven for a short distance to take the slack out of the chains and allow them to be fully tightened. A minor annoyance, but manufacturer-recommended, so do not avoid this step.
I trial-mounted my Konigs on the front drive wheels of my Toyota Corolla. They are definitely low-profile and would allow for steering angles. Definitely a lot of Swedish steel in this product; I am sure it will get you through a Scandinavian winter. My chains always ride in my Toyota during the winter months.

by:

Tire chains delivered earlier than expected and are even easier to put on than I thought. The plastic covered rear cable makes putting on the chains so easy and I don't have to hug a dirty wet tire. Will definitely recommend this site and use them again.

Great! Just use them last week in 24 inches of snow. Never got stuck, got me home nice and safe. No one could believe I made it.

I don't usually submit online reviews but in this case wow what a great company! I ordered some chains for my Lexus ct200h on a Saturday and got a real live phone call on Sunday from Erika stating the product I ordered was out of stock. She recommended these chains instead and not only were they less expensive but they arrived on Thursday just in time for a California ice storm on Friday. I had to put the chains on for the first time on my way home to my house at 5000 foot elevation. I watched the video before leaving work and as promised they went on in a breeze even with the low wheel well clearance. Great company, great product- I couldn't be happier!

by:

Due to our new residence location (Big Bear Lake CA) I've been researching tire chain specs and options. My past experience was only seasonal, but now that we live here permanently I wanted the most effective design and durable materials....not only for my Jeep, but my wife's Honda. Just received both via UPS last week. Nice product and packaging. Now just waiting for the snow!

by:

This was the fastest next day shipping! I ordered late and the next thing I knew the shipper picked it up, and was at my door mid morning! Thank you! In time for a storm!

Glad we got them to you in good time, Raymond! Did you end up needing them for the storm? We got a pretty good amount of snow here in Missouri.

by:

I have to say I'm extremely satisfied with these tire chains!! They're so aggressive and work well with my corolla. My at is front wheel drive and the weight of the motors sits perfectly in line with the tire/chain combination. They bite and dig right in the snow and ice. My drive way is very long as you can see and quite dangerous in snowy conditions. I've had numerous times where I've had to slip the chains on and it was a breeze. They're so easy to put on and off. I feel extremely confident throughout the winter season with the Thule tire chains in the back of my trunk. Thank you so much! You guys have great products going!

Hi, Austin. Thanks for the review. I just purchased these same chains and am wondering if you have ever had any problem with the chains scratching or damaging the rims? Thanks

by:

Pleased to say I can finally review these tire chains. I bought them as a precautionary measure before going up to Vermont for a week earlier in January. Used them extremely briefly up there and thought they were solid.

Fast forward a couple weeks to now, and we received 20+ inches of snow in about 24 hours in central Massachusetts. Got to and from my friends' house for the Pats AFC Championship game while the snow was dumping no problem. No need to dig my car out, no need to concern myself with which roads had been plowed or not, and no need to avoid hills in either direction. I never thought my FWD wagon with 6" clearance and all-seasons would eat snow like this. The chains are peace of mind to the highest degree. At this point I think they should plow the roads less!

Mounting is pretty easy too, but they require some finagling to get them in place when you're doing it out in the snow. Getting them off is more annoying because you have to blindly find the connector on the backside of the tire, but it's not bad with some patience.

This is an awesome review Andrew, thank you for sharing it. Sounds like those chains seriously showed up when the snow did. Getting through 20+ inches without worrying about hills, plows, or digging out is exactly the kind of peace of mind we love to hear about. We also appreciate the honest notes on install and removal. Snowy installs are never glamorous, but it’s great to hear they’re manageable with a little patience. Stay safe out there and enjoy that winter confidence. How was Vermont?

@KateF Thank you, Kate! Vermont was great. I've been recommending tire chains and your site now any time it seems relevant to bring it up in conversation, and with with all the snow here currently I've definitely been plugging you a lot. And let me know if you need any help with real world chain content in the future! I'd be happy to try to help with some mounting and dismounting videos

  • Which Snow Chains for a 2010 Mazda 3
Your Mazda 3, if equipped with the factory wheels and tires, you can use either the Thule CB12 Size 090 chains, part # TH01221090 or the Thule K-Summit Chains part # TH02230K23. The K-Summit Chains are the easiest and quickest chains to install. The CS10 chains are self-tensioning so unlike basic sets, these chains will tighten themselves. They take more time to install, but they are less expensive when compared to the K-Summit chains.
