Can Tire Snow Chains Damage Tires

Question:
Will tire chains damage your tires?
asked by: Debra
Helpful Expert Reply:
Having metal chains in direct contact with your tires can scuff or otherwise cause some minor cosmetic damage, but this can be minimized by installing and using the chains according to their instructions.
Before purchasing or installing tire chains, be sure to consult your owner's manual and follow any advice or prohibitions your vehicle manufacturer might have regarding using tire chains. It's also a good idea to get some practice installing your chains before you actually need them. Kneeling in the snow on the side of the interstate isn't the best place to learn the process.
