Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today we'll gonna be talking about the Thule roof rack on our 2025 Ford F-150. Now this is gonna be a great option if you're wanting something that's gonna look pretty slick up here and will work with most of your accessories and it's just easy to use. So let's take a closer look at it. It is important though that you check that this is gonna be compatible with your roof since they are gonna have fit kits that are designed for a specific vehicle. So put in your vehicle's information into a fit guide and make sure you're getting the right one for you.
Now another thing that I really like about roof racks just in general is if you have anything extra long that might not fit into your bed very well, anything like a kayak, putting it up on top of your roof is gonna be a better option. You could also get a trailer to pull behind you, but once you get that trailer, it's really gonna expand that footprint you have. So it's gonna be a lot harder to get into those tight areas. Now we can actually take a closer look at why I think this roof rack stands out amongst other ones now. So with this bar, we're gonna have this arrow design to it.
It's gonna make it more aerodynamic and it's not gonna be very large. So you can get a lot of clamp on accessories to get on here. Now if you don't wanna use a clamp on, you can use the T channel up top. It's gonna have some weather striping that's built into it so it won't get any debris in there and it will reduce some wind noise. Now we're gonna have this cap at the very end and that's what's unique about this.
I can just simply turn that over and slide those accessories into place. A lot of other ones will require you take off that cap completely and it is a little bit annoying to do that constantly. Below that, we're gonna have the towers, that grabs onto that crossbar. You can get this plastic core swapped out with a metal locking core for extra security and get it keyed alike to your other Thule accessories. When you're done, you can just pull it up and we can kind of see the hardware underneath here.
Now we're gonna have this fit kit and it's gonna be held in place with a bolt that goes down and we have this clamp that grabs through the inside of your door. This is pretty good, but what I really like about it is how this is contouring to our roof. We don't have any gaps and since this is so custom fit, this just kind of gives me a little bit more confidence with how it's holding on there. Now let's get a couple measurements to see how it's sitting up here today. So let's start with beneath here. So the minimum distance we're gonna have is 2-1/2 inches. So if you have any larger clamp accessories, those should fit under here just fine. But if you have a sunroof and if that expands up, you might have some issues. So definitely double check that so you don't damage anything. Now for the total distance it is on your roof, that's gonna be just slightly over three inches. So that's good to know if you have anything a little bit taller on top of here. So I'd recommend getting total height of a vehicle, crossbars and those accessories so you know what areas you can make it under, anywhere like a garage. And when it comes to the crossbar spread, we are gonna be sitting at 27-1/2 inches. So that's gonna be compatible with most accessories out there. Just double check yours to make sure it is gonna work with this. Now this is gonna have a decent weight capacity, but what's most likely gonna be a limiting factor is gonna be the roof itself. So double check that and then go from the lowest rated component so you don't damage anything. Now when it comes to roof racks in general, I do think this is gonna be a solid option for most people out there. For me, it's mainly gonna come down to the looks and how easy it is to access that T channel here. But if you're looking for something that has a little bit more of a rugged design, then I would recommend the Rhino-Rack roof rack sports bar and 'cause that's gonna be a little bit more bulky than this. But if you like that kind of look, then definitely go for it. Now when it comes to installing this, I can do this in about 10 minutes. I've done this a lot, but if you want any tips or tricks, I can walk you through that now. To begin the installation, we're gonna lay out all our parts and you'll notice we're missing a few pieces 'cause I already have it on top of my roof. That's gonna be our front crossbar. But the process for assembling it is gonna be the same. There will be a couple different measurements, which we'll talk about later on. For right here, I'm gonna have one of my crossbars in front of me. We are gonna have two of our towers, their end caps, bases, clamps, and then we're gonna have a tool to type in this into place. And I do recommend having a tape measure to get your measurements. And what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna bring this over and we wanna make sure that the underside is facing up. Come over here to the end cap, press down on this tab, pull that off, and then we'll grab the tower. Now the way this tower goes on is the back of it, you just squeeze together. You're almost kind of making a pinching motion like that. And that's gonna lift up this section with the bolt. Once that lifts up, you'll be able to push it right into this channel just like that in this orientation with that larger piece of hardware facing on the outside. When you're done with that, put that end cap back on and we'll grab our base, just match it up to the contours of the one on your tower and then we'll repeat that on the other side. At this point we wanna reference our instructions and this is gonna give you a measurement between your towers. There's gonna be one for the front bar, one for the rear bar. So make sure you reference that number. Make sure it's the same. If you need to change it at all, you just grab and pinch it and move it that way. I've already adjusted mine, so now I can put it on top of my roof. And when I do that, there is an orientation I do that in. So you wanna make sure thicker side is facing forward, thinner side behind you. And then we'll just take our time and put it up here. If you need help, you can grab a friend to go on the other side, but you don't have to get it perfect quite yet 'cause we need to get our measurement to see where exactly this is gonna sit on our roof. So the way we get our measurements is by referencing our instructions. And then that's gonna give you a measurement from the top of your windshield to the front of that tower. That's how you get the front one. Make sure you do that on both sides. And then we'll measure from the front of the front crossbar to the front of the rear crossbar. Again, referencing our instructions, if you need to make any adjustments, we'll just push it back some. And once I get this adjusted on the side, I'm gonna do the same For our driver's side. I have my measurement in place. Now if you find that your bases aren't grabbing on to that kind of groove on top of your roof, then you can just adjust that by squeezing that section here and pushing it out, matching it up. But I have everything already in place. So I'm gonna open up my door. I'm gonna grab our clamp and it's gonna have a hook section at the very top. You're just gonna push that into this bracket. Sometimes you'll feel a click, you can test it by pulling down on it and if it's not coming out, you got it hooked on there. And then I'll grab my tool. And I'm just gonna tighten this down just a little bit. I have some resistance against this groove here on our gutter. I only wanna do that a little bit 'cause I need to adjust the other side first because if you tighten it all the way, it's gonna pull it too much to one side and make it uneven. Once you've done that a few times kind of going back and forth, eventually you'll reach a point where you have a lot of resistance, and then you hear that click. That'll let you know it's tightened all the way down. We'll grab our end cap, put that in place, give it a good little shake test, make sure it's not gonna go anywhere. If it feels good, you can load it up and take it out for a ride. Now if you have any other questions, let us know here at etrailer. And again, I'm Matt and thanks for watching.
