Stationary Chair Arms

Stromberg Carlson's two-bike carrier for RVs easily clamps around the vertical supports of your exterior ladder. The non-marring material on the clamps helps to keep the carrier from scratching your RV ladder. Simply insert the included pins into the brackets to secure the arms in place so the rack does not sway while you are driving. With your bike's front wheel hanging toward the ground, place the seat post in the cradles on the carrier's arms. Then secure your bike in place with the straps on the cradles.

Pivoted Rack Arms

When bikes are not mounted, the carrier's arms pivot out left and right to allow access to your motor home's ladder. To move the rack arms, just remove the pull pins from the top of each bracket. Swing the arms out and reinsert the pins so that the arms are tightly secured in place. This allows you to use your RV ladder without having to remove the entire bike rack. When you are ready to use the carrier again, the arms easily pivot back in place and secure with the pull pins.

The process was so easy., from the search to the delivery. The products are of high-quality, and should last a long time with normal care. This is my third order with etrailer and I live there products. Everything is as advertised .If you need camping equipment then I recommend to buy from them.

by:

Yes I did receive the racks and they look great, my husband put them on and his comments were he wished the screws were longer, and the latch down loops were tough to get hooked over the bikes. Also we thought it would be nice if it came with some pads to keep the bikes from banging together or against our spare. Overall we lke the product, and the construction it seems sturdy and we like that it swings out of the way for ladder access. Your service was very prompt, which is always appreciated.

I recently purchased this bike rack. I am disappointed in the engineering of the mounting and tie downs. First of all, the customer should not have to wish the screws were longer. You can start one screw, but there is no way to get the second screw started due to the angle the bracket sits at. I enlarged the holes and had to install new bolts in order to fit around the 1 inch diameter roof ladder Most people just dont have metric screws the right length needed laying around the house. Secondly the durometer of the latch down hoops is so stiff that it is impossible to stretch the holes over the pins they connect to. I found the only way to hook them is to use a vice grip and leverage to pry them over the pins. If you mount the bike rack high on your RV ladder, you will find yourself on a step stool cussing out the poor design and material ion. I would not recommend this bike rack to anyone.

Received in good condition. I am using the Ladder Mount Rack LA-102 on my RV to carry my pedal assist, Sondors Electric bike.
Due to the location of the battery box in the triangle portion of the frame, I have to carry the bike upside down. That is with the front wheel up and using the seat post frame but on the opposite side. I think this will work well except for not being able to use the rubber straps because the space between the battery box and frame post is too small. I have to use a total of three bungee cords to hold the bike on and in an upright position.
I have included pictures. Please let me know if you think there will be problems using the rack in this manner.

by:

It was perfect while I was using it we had to buy a different one for our electric bikes

I no longer use it because we have electric bikes

by:

Bike rack is made of sturdy material. Holds my two bikes securely. No rust showing. I did think the price was a little expensive though, other than that; I would recommend.

I like the product just fine
But they
sent 8 locking nuts and 7 bolts that fit correctly and one oddball that did not

This product was great, would have been simple to install with 2 people, but I managed to get it done by myself. I was particularly impressed with etrailer.com's quick shipment! I placed the order on Tuesday night and forgot that I needed it by Friday morning before I chose economy shipping. I went back to the site Wednesday midmorning to see if I could have it 2 day shipped instead. It had already been shipped. My original thought was "great it is already on the "slow boat to China" Much to my surprise it arrived Thursday mid morning! Truly impressed with the efficiency of this company!

by:

Somewhat flimsy. Two Huffy bikes pushes its load limit. Not a good fit as my ladder is near edge of trailer. Ended up buying a cargo hitch mount with hitch mount bike rack.

by:

I requested information on the screw size before the delivery arrived as other’s complained that screws are short and I wanted to get longer screws just in case. I did not get the information from customer service. Instead , Jason’s response was to try using vise-grips as another customer mentioned that’s what they did…i requested the info a 2nd time and was ignored. Never did get the info.

Box was torn up, looks like a product return that was not repackaged before sending to me. It was put inside a larger box it appears the product was not damaged. I’ll be installing after it stops raining and will advise on functionality.

by:

Bought it for 2 bikes ,reinforced to strengthen arms put on ladder. Worked perfectly drove all summer over rough roads no cracks or problems.

by:

We installed the bike rack on our class A motor coach. Product is as described. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that the Allan wrench is difficult to use because the end is 1/4 too long to be easy to use on the inside screws.

by:

This ladder mount bike carrier is so simple a design and easy installation that's it's amazing how wonder it is and so stable for carrying bikes. Have had one on my 5th wheel for awhile and needed another carrier for 'Big Blue' 42 gal 4 wheel blackwater tote. Worked through many options and decided if it ain't broke stick with it and ordered another of this same bike carrier to modify to carry 'Big Blue'. Heading up into the northern Rockies for 6 weeks with bikes on one carrier mounted high on the ladder and 'Big Blue' just below the bikes on this new adapted carrier also on the ladder. All this is well w/in the load limits of the ladder. So simple, so easy and so effective. If I need to carry anything else under 50lbs I guess I'll just have to mount a new LADDER!

Still going strong and both carriers, one carrying two mtn bikes and the other carrying 42 gal black water tote, working like a charm. So simple a design and very adaptable to carrying gear other than bikes.

by:

Product shipped very quickly... excellent service etrailer ... impressed with quality of product... well designed and sturdy... nice looking components and make a fairly unobtrusive addition to my ladder assembly... wished the bolts for the mounting brackets screwed in from the front instead of the back however...

Still impressed with product after a year of use... would purchase again if needed

by:

The carrier is well made and is easy to attach but it does not hold all size bikes. It works well for my mountain bike but will not work with my wife's bike so I have to carry hers inside the RV. I may try adding the cross bar on her bike. (Being a lady's bike it is a step through) I also wish it had come with Velcro straps to help hold the bikes in place.

8/9/2018

It has held up ok but the straps holding the locking pins are deteriorating and wont last much longer. Works well for my mountain bike but thats about it.

by:

I've been waiting for the time to order this product it came in timely manor.

by:

It was a little tedious to install but nothing a little patience cannot handle. It has nice adjustments to get it just where you want it on the ladder. I hung two bikes from it and it seems sturdy enough. We will see when we take a trip in the camper. So far I seems like a great bike rack.

5/15/2014

We used it last summer and now this spring. It is a good bike rack. I have two bikes on it. It still holds the bikes secure. I can fold it over out of the way. The rubber tie straps are still strong and intact. The metal parts have all held up well. The only thing which is minor, the cords that hold the pins to lock the brackets in position have deteriorated and broken. But this is not a big deal. Easily replaced or not even needed. I would buy this bike rack again if I was starting out.

by:

Rack installed really easy only issue was with the screws being a little hard to get in once you started the first one but with the help of a pair of small vice grips i was able the pinch the two pieces of the bracket together to get the second screw started. The picture of the parts shows plastic mounting brackets but mine came with aluminum guess they upgraded for the better from what the older models came with. Haven't had a chance to use it while traveling but all in all looks well made and would recommend to others.

6/11/2016

Made a couple trips with it and has held up nicely.

by:

just installed the bike rack. It appears to be sturdy and made well however as in all the other reviews the screws were not long enough. we had to make a trip to the hardware store to get longer screws to use on one side of the bracket. we had to use the original screws for the other side because it could only be accessed with the allen wrench. It took 2 hours to put together including the trip to the store. Hopefully it will hold up!

The bike rack is adequate. We keep our camper in covered storage. The cord that holds the pins in is faded and is showing alot of wear. Also one of the the pads that you set the bike on is tearing. It still holds the bikes in place well but I wonder about the longevity of this bike rack. I dont thinks it will last as long as I hope

by:

This rack seems sturdy. It was easy to install, though we proceeded more based on common sense than based on the instructions provided.

The rack arrived very soon after I ordered it, was well packaged, and appropriately priced. Communication from eTrailer.com was clear and friendly. We look forward to hauling bikes on the back of our 24-foot RV.

The bike rack has worked well for us. To make sure nothing gets damaged bike or RV, weve had to apply lots of bungee cords, foam, and other materials, but the rack itself is sturdy and has served us well. Thank you for writing,

by:

I think the bike rack is a reasonable product, but not a good fit for us. We only used it on one trip and it was a disaster. Last December, I bought and installed the bike rack on the ladder of our RV. We put our bikes on the rack and headed for the Everglades. On our first night, we stopped at a campground in Starke, FL, and were caught in a very bad storm with high winds. It was dark. It was raining. The wind was blowing. Then suddenly the wind tore off one of our roof vent covers and water was pouring into the RV kitchen. I ran outside only to realize that the bikes were mounted to the ladder and I could not get on the roof. In the dark and pouring rain, I had to unlock, un-secure, and remove the bikes from the rack. All the while rain is filling our RV. I finally got on the roof and was able to cover the hole left by the missing vent cover. We dried everything up and the next day, I purchased and installed a new vent cover.

I realized that blocking the ladder to the roof with bikes was not the best approach and we have never used the bike rack again. We laugh about it now, but it was a crazy evening, to say the least. We now put the bikes on a rack that is mounted to the hitch receiver on our tow vehicle.

by:

Ordering my bike rack was simple, it shipped within 24 hours and arrived by ground 2 days later, This is not my first purchase from eTrailer and their customer service is by far the best I have encountered. Encourage you to try them.

Wonderful, 2 trips to Cancun!

by:

The bike rack is what I expected. It mounted fairly easy. The mounting bolts need to be about an 1/8" longer to make it easier. I'm using it for Beach cruiser type bikes. Getting 2 on there is a chore but it works. Need padding between the bikes.

Don Y.

2/3/2015

the lanyard for the pins cant stand the sun they rot. The pins dont like rain they rust. Need extra straps if using it for large heavy bikes.

by:

I drove almost 3,000 miles with one mountain bike, a reclining deck chair and captains chair on the rack, and it didn't move at all. For assembly, I did need to get longer screws as the ones sent with it weren't long enough for attachment around the ladder uprights. They are metric screws for anyone else running into this problem. I also used locking washers and nuts as a precaution against them coming loose during all the driving. It's easy to swing the arms out of the way, as I did need to climb onto the roof of the camper after the trip.

by:

1. Had I not read earlier reviews and did not purchase longer screws, installation would have been even worse than it already was.
2. The metal used arrives "marred" and the padding on the bike arms has discoloration spots.
3. There is protective material (plastic wrap) on both arms. However; the material is not the same on both arms. why would you wrap the arms in two differing types of plastic wrap
4. Screws were metric as was the nuts. Makes it tough to "hold" locking nuts if you don't have a metric wrench or rachet
5. Normally when you have a bolt and nut situation, the attachment process proceeds from the outside to the inside......bolt goes through the brackets (towards the RV) and the nut is on the backside (nearest the RV). The quality of the engineering made getting a "grip" on the bolt was almost impossible (no room for wrench heads) and having clear access for the hex wrench was all but impossible. In order to sanely complete the installation, the bolt had to come through from the backside and the nut was on the "outside" of the install. Even from a safety standpoint this makes no sense. The working surface of the rack faces outward and now you have unprotected bolt ends creating a potential injury producer.
6. If you are seeking good help from the instructions, you won't find it. Black and white photos clarity and detail leave much to be desired.
7. If it looks to good to be true, it probably is. Run when you see this product - or at the very least be prepared to be an octopus during the install.

found dificulty on setting bike rack up. Could not get bikes to set on hooks properly. one of the bands btoke when trying to load both bikes on. Bikes are normal his/her 10 mountian bikes. There was nothing special about the bike that they would not go on correctly. After bending a hook and breaking a band we ended up throwing out bike rack. We would not tell any one to buy this type of bike rack.

Thank you,
Sandra Wagner

The Stromberg Carlson 2 Bike Carrier for RVs - Ladder Mount # LA-102 that you referenced uses two black brackets that hold it's vertical brackets to the upright vertical brackets of the ladder it attaches to. There are stops on the vertical brackets that prevent the pipe from slipping through and off of the ladder.

The pads, or cradles, on the Stromberg Carlson 2 Bike Carrier # LA-102 can be moved forward and backward on the arms of the rack for more or less space between the bikes. It takes some effort to move cradles. The cradles have to be a little hard to move, otherwise the bikes would slide around on the arms. The best way to move them is to twist while at the same time push or pull the cradle. Hairspray could work as a temporary lubricant which will then get sticky to hold the cradle in place...
