Video Transcript for Stromberg Carlson Adjustable Accessory Hitch Receiver Feature Review

Hello, neighbors. I'm Steven here at etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this Stomberg Carlson Adjustable Accessory Hitch Receiver. Now folks, this is a universal hitch. It's designed to work and use on travel trailers and fifth wheels. It can be either bolted or welded on by a professional onto your trailer.

You can possibly weld it on yourself. Just note that it is only rated at a class two of 350 pounds if it is welded and installed by a professional welder only. Otherwise, it's only rated at a class one 200 pounds. Now the receiver opening is a standard two inch by two inch tube here. You get your safety chain attachments, all the hardware here needed and bracketry if you need 'em to mount to your specific needs.

Everything's a heavy duty steel that's been black powder coated. It's gonna resist rust, corrosion, and it's got a nice kind of reflective, glossy finish to it, which is pretty nice. It does install on various trailer frames. It'll work on either C channel or an I-beam frame. So if you're using C channel, it's gonna work on the horizontal wall.

Now, as I mentioned, you got from 49 1/2 inches all the way out to 76 1/2. So these side pieces here can extend out (metal grinds) all the way if you need 'em. And they got bolt holes here to mount it to your frame. You can either use it like this or if you need to invert it, you can invert it like that. So keep in mind, you got a lot of versatility with this hitch.

(metal clanks) And on the front you can kind of see over here you got a hole, and right here. What you'll do is once you get this set to the length that you need it, mark it, either do a center punch or a paint mark or something and then pull these back out, drill a hole through that, and on the backside of this guy, there's a welded nut and then you can put a bolt all the way through there for extra, you know, hold it from sliding and whatnot. Folks, this is not, I repeat, not designed to be used for towing. So please do not try to tow anything with this. This is just to add a connection point, if you will, to carry like a bike carrier to carry some bikes, maybe a cargo carrier, something like that. Again, the weight rating is a class one, 200 pounds or a class 2, 350 pounds only if it's been installed and welded on by a professional. Now I want to kind of show you some dimensions here real quick. This image will also be available on the product page. You can scroll down and find that in the ask the expert section of the page and you could also pause the video if you need to and write down any kind of dimensions you need. Keep in mind it is adjustable, so you got lots of variations that you could use if need be. Well folks, that's gonna wrap it up for our look at this Stromberg Carlson Adjustable Accessory Hitch. Again, 49 1/2 to 76 1/2 inch frames. I'm Steven. Thanks so much for watching. I hope this information's been helpful. Stay safe out there and have fun on your travels.

I Love the Stromberg Carlson RV and Camper Hitch! As a matter of fact, I bought (2) of them. I mounted them to the frame on my 2020 Shasta Phoenix 25RE 5th wheel and it was Eazy Peazy! I connected the (2) hitches together using an 18" hitch extender that runs thru the stock square bumper. I bolted them to the frame of the 5th wheel, not the provided tabs from the RV manufacturer. The frame is stronger than provided tabs, in my opinion. Works Great and is Solid!

It does look solid, Ken! What are you going to be mounting on it?

by:

I have a Newmar Cypress 2006 and it has the connections for a hitch, but of course they no longer make it. I had to have someone make an adapter plate for my hitch to line up the holes and it worked perfectly. THANK YOU so much for sending this unit quickly. Although the packages was damaged all the parts where there and it has fit my needs. Please to try out with bicycle rack next month on a long trip.

@Chase That is great to hear that it is working well, and better than expected! What kind of trailer/vehicle did you put this on, and what are you mainly using it for?

by:

The hitch looks and feels very solid. The installation was pretty straight forward but drilling the bolt holes for the adjusting part was a bear, getting those to line up took a bit.

by:

Although I am satisfied with the end result, installation was a bit involved. I elected to mount this hitch on the rear of our camper trailer in order to support a bike rack. The 17mm holes that were needed in both the frame and hitch were challenging to drill. I strongly recommended using titanium bits. Start small and work your way up. Most of my time was spent adjusting and measuring to ensure a proper fit. Once completed, the hitch is a solid base. No worries with reliability.

by:

I like that it’s universal for different width frames and relatively easy to install if you know what you’re doing. Down side was that two bolts were the wrong thread size. Bolts were M16 and the weld nuts on the frame were 5/8.

by:

So far it is a great hitch. The only thing I had an issue with was the welded on nut on the back side. The bolt wouldn't start correctly. I would rather just have a hole and put on my own nut. Other then that, it was easy to install.

by:

Assembly to back of RV trailer was straight forward. Have to try it out yet.

by:

Easy bolt on to 5th wheel. Did have it welded because it is now the low point and when my rear drags it takes the pressure off my trailer. It has been a great asset to put our bike rack on

by:

Great product works as intended!!!!!

by:

The hitch is way better than expected from reviews I’ve read. Excellent customer service and would buy same product again from e-trailer.

by:

I had it welded to the frame and it works great. I use it to carry my generator while traveling in my RV.

by:

Worked great for adding a hitch to our travel trailer. Always need to haul more junk when on vacation.

by:

Bought this particular one for my rv because I didn't have any room to mount anything other brand due to power stabilizing jacks and the way they mounted the rear bumper. It works as intended

by:

Everything was just what I wanted

by:

Seems like a really great trailer hitch. Excellent welds all the way around. Only complaint is that it wasbt clear from the product description that it is only rated as a class 1 hitch (200 lbs) when used in a bolt-on configuration. You only get the full 350 lb tongue weight rating when used in a welded config.

by:

Very smooth ordering and free delivery! !??

Easy to install! We'll built and shipping was super fast!

Still working strong. Was so easy to install and adjust to fit.

by:

I have reviewed some really great products from etrailer but this is not one of those. This will carry my bicycle but the quality of this hitch made in china is poor. The welds have little penetration and are porous. I will grind and re weld but would not buy this product again. This is the first time I have gotten a product from etrailer that is poor quality.

We had our stock checked and none of what we have has welds like in your picture. So its not a wide spread issue with this hitch. I already sent your info and the picture to our customer service team and asked them to reach out to you about this. I dont think you should have to re weld a brand new hitch! It should have arrived ready to go.

by:

Heavy duty, quality was great.

by:

Added to my Airstream, worked great. Response time and shipping from etrailer was awesome. One of the few adjustable receiver hitches available.

by:

Worked very well installed on my travel trailer for use as a bike rack for two eBikes. Total weight with carrier is 175lb. Therefore I’ll add a few beads of weld to enhance the strength where bolted to frame. Hardware and hitch assembly were heavy duty. Took nearly four hours since it’s heavy (65lb) and bulky to handle. Would recommend.

by:

Bought to install on fifth wheel RV. It is installed and seems to be very sturdy for supporting a bike rack with two e-bikes that weigh appropriately 60 lbs a piece. Seems to be made very well. Bought because of the adjustability of the hitch. Would recommend this product.

by:

Every one was great I received my order in a short time Brandon did a super job
Thanks to everyone

  • Will The Stromberg-Carlson Adjustable Hitch SC45MR A 2019 Grand Design 2970RL
Hi Leonard! The Stromberg-Carlson Adjustable Hitch # SC45MR will most likely fit, but I don't have the frame width measurement for your 2019 Grand Design 2970RL handy, unfortunately. That said, this will fit frames that measure from 49-1/2" to 76-1/2" wide, which tends to cover just about everything. I would be very surprised if you got a measurement that did not fall between these. Have you measured your frame by chance? If you do end up getting a measurement that this wont work with,...

  • Can The Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch For RV's Fit A 74" I-Beam Spacing
I pulled one of the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs # 13703 from the warehouse and measured it and found that the cross tube was approximately 68-3/8" in length. Knowing how manufacturers are I'm sure the intended size is 68" since the brackets have a 2" lip and both together would add up to 72". I'm sure if we measured multiple the actual length will vary from 68 to 68-1/2". The brackets are intended to sit flush up against the inside of the I-beams and have a bend...

The mounting brackets for this hitch can be installed on the bottom of your C-Channel frame beams by drilling through the lip of the frame and using the included hardware. This class III hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight capacity of 5,000lbs and maximum tongue weight capacity of 500lbs.

  • Recommend Universal Trailer Hitch for a 2021 Coachman Chaparral 5th Wheel
We do not have any hitches that are going to be a custom fit to your 2021 Coachman Chaparral 5th wheel, however what I can say is that if you measure the width of your frame, and that number is between 49-1/2" and 76-1/2", then the Stromberg Carlson Adjustable Accessory Hitch Receiver # SC45MR will work great with your 5th wheel. • Do Holes Need To Be Drilled Into The Adjustable Arms Of The Stromberg Carlson Adjustable Hitch
Yes, if you plan on bolting the Stromberg Carlson Adjustable Accessory Hitch Receiver # SC45MR on then you would need to drill holes in the adjustable arms in order to set them to the correct length. There aren't any predrilled so that this one hitch can fit multiple different lengths. You'll also need to drill holes into the trailer frame in order to bolt it in place as well. To make drilling through the metal easier you'll start with the 17mm drill bit it requires and drill just enough...
