Video Transcript for Replacement Master Cylinder and Push Rod Assembly for Drum Brakes Spec Review

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this replacement master cylinder and push rod assembly for drum brakes. This fits the model 10 and 20 actuators. Now this will replace the master cylinder and push rod assembly on your Titan model 10 or model 20 surge brake actuator. Basically, this master cylinder holds the brake fluid in the actuator and it connects to the inner slide of the surge brake actuator.

When that surge brake actuator is activated, the inner slide will move towards the master cylinder. The push rod will cause it to apply the hydraulic pressure to your trailer brakes. Now this one here is designed to work with drum brakes. The cylinder bore on this master cylinder is one and one quarter inches and it is made in the USA. But that should do it for the review on the replacement master cylinder and push rod assembly for drum brakes for the model 10 and model 20 actuators..

Direct replacement ut did have to change the brake line adapter because my old mastercylinder was from 2000 and the outlet on anything after 2010 has a smaller outlet.

by:

No fitting for brake line! Wasted time and money to find one.

by:

I paid extra for 2 day shipping it arrived in 4,other than that it was by.

by:

The part matches the old one it was ordered to replace, but it didn't come with the fitting to connect to the brake line. The required fitting is special and specific for disc and drum brakes, with a custom orifice size. There is no mention in the description of the part that you need to buy the fitting separately, or that it is this special one. The only reason I found it was in searching for the thread size on the manufacturer's web site. It didn't even mention the special orifice size there. Someone was complaining about the brakes not working correctly for 10 years before they found that they needed this special fitting. It should be included with the master cylinder

by:

it fit my 1970s model 16 ft hardee trailer exactly.

by:

I would give a 5 star but I ordered caps for the hubs with grease fitings. They sent caps without grease fitting. My trailer is designed to pump grease into the caps and grease both inner and outer bearings together.

by:

The customer service was excellent. I am new as to owning a big boat and whats required of the trailer that has to transport it. Their customer service department walked me thru getting the right parts that were needed for my trailer. Which was a complete brake system starting from the Master cylinder, complete brake line kit,and complete trailer brake system.I highly recommend them. And don't hesitate to call their customer service department. They looked up all the right parts for me that were needed for the type of boat trailer that I owned.I will be doing business with this company again in the future.

Arrived a day or two earlier then said. Product was perfect match, still installing. Packaging needs some attention, part of it was sticking through box.. could cause safety cancern with people in shipping and or damage to product. Didn't notice any damage...should have taken photo for better explanation...

by:

I have not installed the master cylinder but packing was not what I would expect. The taping only caught a thin edge of the flap. There was no packing to keep it from banging around during delivery. The inside of the box shows that it took some good hits. Not your responsibility during delivery but, it is your responsibility for the packing.

by:

Every thing was perfect except for the fitting wasn't an inverted flair fitting nor were there any info to give you a clue. It is 3/8" npt so I had to find an adapter.Wish I had that info up front I would have had it inn the first place. But other than that it was an exact fit.

by:

Fit perfect in Dico model 10. Wish I had read more reviews on this and purchased the orifice at the same time

by:

Very happy with all the items. Quick shipping and all appears to be of decent quality.

by:

Master cylinder worked perfect and was delivered within the week

by:

Was the exact part that was advertised and came 4 days early in shipping thank you etrailer.com

by:

The product itself is fine. The shipping, however, is another matter. The product was placed in a box 4 times larger than needed without ANY packing material inside the box. Totally empty!!! The product was allowed to bounce around in the box and punctured several holes in the box. The package was not taped closed sufficiently and arrived with one of the top flaps completely open!! Worst ever packing job!

by:

The order was filled promptly with the correct parts. Would recommend using etrailer.com.

by:

Replaces my old master cylinder just fi ne.

by:

Perfect replacement for my 1989 Ezload trailer

by:

Good replacement. Happy with it

by:

Great service

Works great

by:

No packing material around part to protect it, missing boot and rod from box because of a hole in box.

by:

Replacement part easy to install, works as expected. Master cylinder continues to work as expected months after installation. No problems noted with operation or product construction.

by:

Have not installed this part yet, but it appears to match the old one exactly. Arrived in great condition and the quality looks great.

by:

Product description was spot on. Service was great

by:

Fit exactly like origina, no issues, works as it should.

  • Replacement Master Cylinder for A Cylinder Stamped 23744
Hey Woody, The master cylinder you have is a Titan #23744, or a Titan 10/20 brake actuator, and we do have a replacement for you. The replacement is going to be part # DX66FR. This is made by Dexter, but is a direct replacement for your master cylinder. Are you needing a solenoid as well, or just the master cylinder?

  • Can a Disc Brake Master Cylinder be Used with Drum Brakes on a Trailer
You would not want to use a disc brake master cylinder with drum brakes because the psi rating is much higher for disc brakes. Using it on drum brakes can lead to damage to the wheel cylinders and very aggressive braking. The master cylinder for the drum brakes is # DX66FR. Drum brake master cylinders have a check valve on the inside that regulates the psi going through the brake lines. This is not something that you can add to the disc brake master cylinder. You would either have to...

  • Replacement Master Cylinder for a Titan Model 20 Actuator w/ Drum Brakes
Hey J.D. It has to do with the pressure. Drum brake master cylinders have a check valve on the inside that regulates the psi going through the brake lines. You'll blow your seals out using a disc brake master cylinder like item # T4749501042 on drum brakes. Since your Titan Model 20 actuator is for drum brakes, you'll need the Replacement Master Cylinder and Push Rod Assembly for Drum Brakes item # DX66FR or item # T2374600 if you need the entire cylinder assembly. • Replacement Master Cylinder for Titan Model 10 Actuator on 1999 Prestige Trailer
Thanks for the photos of your trailer's actuator! They were very helpful in answering your questions. Based on the photos, it appears that you have a Titan Model 10 Actuator # T1607500. For a Model 10 actuator, the # DX66FR that you referenced is the correct replacement master cylinder. If you'd also like to replace the master cylinder bracket assemblies, they are included with the master cylinder in part # T2374600. To install the master cylinder, the orifice connector you will need is...

  • How To Replace Master Cylinder For Titan 10 Brake Actuator
To replace the master cylinder on your Titan 10 brake actuator you can check out the diagram of the actuator I have attached. In the diagram there are two bolts that are noted you need to loosen to get to the master cylinder. They are part number 20 and 24. You can use a spray-on lubricant like WD40 to loosen the bolts before removing. Once you get the bolts out you can replace the master cylinder with the # DX66FR you asked about. You will also need an orifice connector # T1209800...

We do have the Titan master cylinder replacement part # DX66FR which has the number 23744 stamped on the side of it. See attached picture. • Installation of Reverse Lockout on Titan Dico Model 10 Coupler for Drum Brakes
For your master cylinder # DX66FR, the Replacement Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts # T4748800 will serve you well. The solenoid does not regulate the pressure from the specific master cylinder when the valve is not activated so drum brakes will have up to 1000 psi and disc brakes up to 1600 psi.

  • How to Loosen Hardware Securing Master Cylinder in Titan Brake Actuator
If you take a look at the linked diagram which shows an exploded view of the master cylinder in the Titan model 10 actuator, you'll note that there are two through-bolts that secure the master cylinder to the cylinder brackets. These are parts 20 and 24 in the diagram; the bolts are noted with arrows. You can try applying a spray-on lubricant like WD40 or PB Blaster to help loosen the bolts. These products can take hours or days to work and multiple applications may be needed.

  • Replacement Master Cylinder for a Model 10 or 20 Brake Actuator
I agree that the master cylinder in your pictures is for a Model 10 or 20 actuator so # DX66FR is the correct replacement. If the springs and hardware are in good shape operate properly then you would not have to replace the whole assembly. If they are not in good shape/operating properly then you will need # T2374600. If it were me this is the route I would take to ensure all the parts are new and in good working order.

  • How to Tell Difference Between Titan Model 20 Drum and Disc Actuator
Look at the top of the master cylinder and you'll be able to tell which type of brakes it is designed for by the whether there is a yellow dot or not. If you see the yellow dot then you have a disc brake setup. If no yellow dot then drum. Also you can easily change either style to the other by swapping out the master cylinder. For a drum brake application you'd want the part # DX66FR or for disc part # T4747100.

The bolts/nuts that are securing the master cylinder to the actuator on your 1997 Heritage Boat Trailer are between the welded-on portion of the A-frame and the actuator. When the actuator is pumped, you should see some fluid come out of the actuator. However, on brand new actuators or master cylinders like your Atwood product, it may simply need to be actuated a few times before it will start pumping out fluid. If you still do not have any luck, I recommend taking apart the actuator itself to see if there are any clogs that need to be cleaned out.
