Kuat Transfer 2-Bike Rack

The Transfer platform-style bike rack lets you carry 2 fat bikes on the back of your vehicle. The rack holds your bikes by the wheels - not the frames - to protect your paint. The low tray height takes the strain out of mounting your bikes on the rack, and the pivoting cradles and ratcheting wheel hooks make loading your bikes quicker and easier when compared with a rack that has a center post and frame hooks. A foot pedal lets you tilt the rack with bikes loaded for access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. And the pedal lets you fold the rack up for storage, too.

Perfect Fit Adjustment System

Kuat Transfer 2-Bike Rack

The Transfer has a Perfect Fit adjustment system that lets you carry your bikes safely and securely without the fear of damaging the frames. The system includes ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes firmly by the front wheels, adjustable front wheel cradles, and pivoting rear cradles that secure your rear wheels to the rack. These hooks and adjustable cradles ensure a perfect fit for each of your bikes' body styles.

Ratcheting Hooks

Kuat Transfer Ratcheting Hooks

The ratcheting hooks secure your bikes' front wheels to the rack. Place your bikes on the cradles then simply slide the hooks down over your wheels until they click in place. The hooks hold your bikes firmly in place without contacting the frames. Press the thumb release button on each hook to slide them up and remove your bikes.

Security Straps and Adjustable Front-Wheel Cradles

Kuat Transfer front wheel straps

The Transfer has nylon-webbed cam-buckle straps that help secure your fat bike tires to the front cradles. Simply wrap the straps around the wheels and cradles and secure them with hook-and-loop fasteners.

Kuat Transfer adjustable front wheel cradlesKuat Transfer Adjustable Front-Wheel Cradles

You can also adjust the pitch of the front cradles using the bolt locator tab at the base of each cradle. In their upright position the cradles sit at the optimal angle for holding a normal-size bike. Use the included Allen key to flip the bolt locator tabs upside down. This allows the cradles to sit at angles that tilt more toward the center of the rack so that the tires of a child's bike will fit snugly.

Extra-Long Ratcheting Straps and Pivoting Rear-Wheel Cradles

Kuat Transfer Bolt Locator Tab

The Transfer has extra-long plastic straps to secure your fat bike wheels to the cradles. It also has pivoting cradles that adjust to hold your bikes' rear wheels on the rack. Rotate the cradles out to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 47" long or rotate them toward the center of the rack to accommodate smaller bikes.

Spring-Loaded Foot Lever

Kuat Transfer Spring-loaded foot lever

The spring-loaded foot lever is easily accessible even with your bikes loaded. No more crawling through bikes or squeezing between the rack and the vehicle to hit the tilt release lever.

Kuat Transfer Spring-loaded foot lever

The foot lever lets you easily tilt the rack down to allow access to your vehicle's rear cargo area - even with the bikes loaded. It leaves both hands free so that you can lower the rack in a controlled manner.

Folds Against Vehicle

When the rack is unloaded you can fold it up for storage. This makes it easier to park in small lots at the trail head or in cramped parking garages, and it keeps the rack out of the way of other vehicles and riders.

Adapter Sleeve with Threaded Hitch Pin

Kuat Transfer Adapter Sleeve

A removable sleeve on the shank lets you convert the rack for use with 1-1/4" hitches. The rack also comes with an anti-rattle device incorporated into the shank to reduce vibration and noise in the hitch for a smooth, quiet ride. Simply tighten the hitch bolt with the included 3/4" wrench.

There is also an optional cable lock and hitch lock (PTSCLK12 - sold separately) that lets you secure your bike to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at Kuat Transfer platform style two-bike rack. Part number TS02G. That's for the color gray. It's also available in Black. TS02B.The Kuat Transfer is a platform-style bike rack with a different approach. It has no center mast.

It has a step through design so we can easily access our bikes. As you can see, there's no platform to get in our way, so it's going to make loading and unloading easy. It also has an easy to access foot petal so we can tilt the rack away, even with bikes loaded, to access our rear hatch. Again, this is easier because there no platform to get in the way.Our bikes are held in place by a wheel hook and a wheel strap. There is no frame contact.

Its a ratcheting wheel hook that puts down pressure on our front wheel into our front wheel cradle. The rear cradle uses a strap to keep the rear wheel in place. We gone ahead and removed our bikes so we can take a closer look. The front wheel cradles are going to accept road bike tires, mountain bike tires, and fat tires up to 4 1/2 inches wide. For fat bikes you will need an adapter kit sold separately with part number APBK.

The rear cradle accepts all the same tire sizes. The only difference is for fat bikes, you have to swap out the strap from your fat bike kit. Or if you prefer, you can pick up the bike rack with the fat bike kit included with part number TS02G-FB in gray, and in black part number TS02B-FB.The cradles are adjustable for bikes of different sizes. The rear one pivots within the slot. The front cradles are adjustable by loosening up the tab with the included tool, and rotating it.

This is gonna raise the bike up which can help with handlebar spacing between the two bikes. When not in use, the wheel hooks fold flat. This allows us to fold the whole bike rack up against our vehicle for compact storage. Now this is ideal for pulling into a tight parking spot or pulling your garage overnight. It has a weight capacity of 40 pounds per bike, a maximum wheelbase of 47 inches, and will accept a wheel diameter between 20 and 29 inches. The distance of the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier when folded up is five inches. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier when folded down is 7 1/5 inches. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the farthest edge of the carrier when folded down is 32 5/8 of an inch. The whole rack has a powder coated finish to resist rust and corrosion, and it features a limited lifetime warranty. Our customers mostly compare the Kuat Transfer to the more traditional Swagman XTC2. Compared to the Transfer, the XTC2 has a traditional platform with a center mast and hooks that contact our bikes frame. It does not tilt away, and the open wheel cradles leave your tires exposed. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll show you how to get it installed. Now, this is gonna work with inch and a quarter or two inch hitches, class one, two, and three. It includes a sleeve to work with our two inch by two inch receiver. What we'll do is feed it into our receiver tube, line up our pin holes. Once we've got it lined up, take our antiretroviral clip, and start threading that through. Once we've got it hand tightened, we can take our included tool, and finish tightening it up. Then we can just put our clip on the opposite side. Now we can get it ready to load up our bikes. The way we do that, is we take our foot, push down on the foot pedal, lower it down until it rests. Then we can raise out our wheel hooks, and undo our rear wheel straps. Now, it's recommended that you load up your heaviest bike first. So, raise it up. As you can see, that step through the design is gonna make it a lot easier to load up our bikes. W it in position, we can raise up our wheel hook, right in front of our fork or outbreak, whichever comes first. Once it makes contact, give like a push, and then it's secure. With it in position, we can then raise up our wheel hook. Now this is gonna end up in front of our fork, or our breaks, whatever comes first. I'll lower it down so it makes contact Question: our tire, and then we'll give it like a push, and then it's secure. For our rear cradle, it pivots to match or tires. Once it's seating correctly, we can run our strap through and pull it down through the other side.I've gone ahead and loaded up my second bike the same way. Now we can take it out and run our test course, and see how it performs. This is our test course. Let's start with our slalom. This shows side to side action, such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then on to our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting acton, such as hitting curves, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. That's gonna complete our look at Kuat Transfer platform style two bike rack, part number TS02G.

As per prior experiences with etrailer, my Kuat Transfer two bike rack with fat bike kit arrived quickly, completely and in perfect shape! And, I am VERY happy with the rack. It fits perfectly on my faithful old Subaru Baja and accommodates nicely the car (truck?) tailgate operation. Our road bikes, cruiser, 27.5 mtb and fat bikes all ride smoothly and securely - even on our local, horribly rough cobble stone streets. And, by the way, the fat bike has 26 X 4.5 tires. That tire size was a concern since some of the rack specs were contradictory as to whether 4.25 or 4.5 was the widest compatible tire. Whoever Kuat are, they've made a huge impression on me - the rack comes packaged like a Xmas present! The overall quality and design are awesome - even if I didn't own a bicycle, I would want the rack just because it improves the looks of my car so much! And finally, but don't tell anyone - it is compatible with my old screw-on, locking hitch pin! Thank you etrailer and thank you Kuat! 433271

Im glad I went so over the top on my review, because the rack has been absolutely perfect! I keep it installed permanently for biking throughout the year including severe cold and snow. It looks and works as well as when it was new!

Fits all all 9 bikes I own, skinny - fat tire. Bikes held secure on 5000 mile road trip. U-shape frame makes it convenient and ergonomic to load bikes. Tire cradles adjust so no interference of seats and bars between bikes. For additional safety (3 bikes obscure car tail lights a bit) I added red Bike reflectors on ends of frame, red reflective tape to hold-down bars and rigged a hitch receiver brake light to the rack center. I purchased the Kuat cable locks and hitch lock. Cables are 2 - 3” too short to lock frame of some of my bikes. Cable length design is limited by the length of the hold-down bars. Cable locks require key turn to lock, cable ends won’t just push in. Hitch lock came without dust cover so Arizona sand and Wisconsin winter salt get in the lock. Also bought a Swagman cable to lock all bikes to the hitch pin / lock. 483618

Product was packed great. Easily assembled and installed into my hitch. Bike is easy to install onto the rack and bike is secured during transport. I have a SUV and it is very easy to tilt the rack with bike on rack to open the rear hatch. Would recommend this rack to everyone. The price is very reasonable. 449983

I have had the bike rack for a year now and I have no big complaints about it. It takes a little practice taking it on and off the car by yourself, but it's not hard. Assembly was easy as well. Here are some things to keep in mind with purchase: - Get the fat tire kit if you have a fat tire. Even with it, the front tire "slot" is not large enough for fat tires. They will shift a little when driving, so make sure everything is secured tight! - The bars now squeak loudly when I am moving them up and down. But I'd rather have them squeak than be loose. - Make sure to angle the back tire bar at about 70 degrees. You don't want to go down too far because the tire will shift when driving. This rack is perfect for regular mountain bikes. It isn't made necessarily for fat tires or road bikes, but I have carried all three on this rack without any issues. Highly recommend this rack for its sturdiness, durability, and price value. 700651

Nice rack , easy to assemble with clear instructions , very happy and price was right. Bought fat bike option but my road bike fits securely just as well. Wanted to get bikes off trunk rack. This works perfect 560132

So far so good. Super fast shipping. Easy to assemble by myself . Took about 2 hours reading instructions carefully and taking my time. Appears to be solid quality. Haven’t installed on vehicle yet or fitted my bikes to the carrier yet. Waiting for a warmer day. Will update on that later. 488563

I absolutely love this rack! Had to call and get the Fat bike kit sent, so that took and extra couple days, they had Kuat send them instead of taking them out of their own stock, must have been a mess up in shipping department? Holds my Pugsley solid and the Specialized Epic quite nicely. Easy on easy off, no damage to the bikes or the car. 429080

Assembly of this rack was fairly straight forward. Instructions consisted mainly of illustrations. I had one issue during assembly where I overtightened bolts and fatigued plastic mating surfaces. The directions gave no caution or guidance regarding how tight to make things. I thought, tighter is always better (wrong). Kuat customer service was very helpful and shipped out replacement parts no questions asked. I am totally satisfied with the rack function, fit and ease of use. I have yet to take long trips but, in local use, it has performed admirably. I was also totally satisfied with etrailer's order fulfillment and customer support. 566579

Love the functionality and quality build. Easy to mount & unmount bikes, holds them securely. Only thing to be aware of is that it is quite heavy, making it challenging to mount & dismount from car on its own 660716

Even better than expected. If you’re looking for a sturdy, well-constructed 3-bike Carrier that folds up for storage and down to access the tailgate, you won’t be disappointed with this product. The rack arrived quickly and without damage. The number of pre-assembled parts made it look like it’d be a 2 hour project to assemble but I had mine together within 25-30 minutes (the assembly instructions are very intuitive). Full satisfaction with the product and, as always, with etrailer. 667014

Other than assembling this, it is a fantastic product that does not wobble, holds my 47 inch wheelbase Trek pure sport. I would’ve given it five stars if it had included the lock which is an additional purchase. Shame on Kuat for that. 673412

If it was not for the heavy weight of the rack, it would receive 5 stars. It’s solid, well built and easy to use. I like how easy it is to load your bike and have it secured. It only takes a minute if that. We’ve taken many long road trips with it and there is no worry about the bikes. I love the available lock kit that is incorporated into the design. My wife is 5’-2” and is fit, but still struggles to move and mount the rack to the hitch. Once installed it is a breeze, but getting it there is hard due to the weight. It fits well on our 2016 4Runner and when the bikes are installed and the rack is folded down, we can access our rear hatch. Great rack and I highly recommend as long as you and yours can handle the weight. 671791

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

So far, I'm very pleased. It takes a little time to assemble but the instructions and tools are more than adequate. Be aware it is of heavy-duty steel construction so it is plenty hefty to move around off the vehicle. However, because it tilts down to the ground, I found it surprisingly easy to install as you don't have to support its entire weight as you insert it into the receiver. 654063

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

We are extremely pleased with our new Kuat Transfer 3 bike carrier. We needed a carrier for 3 bicycles that weigh up to 40 pounds each. I had just purchased an expensive new electric bicycle and didn't want to risk using an inferior bike carrier. After researching many brands and models, I decided to purchase the Kuat, but needed it right away for a vacation. Heidi M answered my call and was able to place my order that afternoon, so we received the carrier in time for our vacation. Heidi was very knowledgeable and could not have been more pleasant. The assembly instructions were excellent and included detailed photos for each step. I highly recommend this carrier. 677658

I am unable to load 12 inches kids bike on this Rack.... so much disappointing as I got this rack so that I can go with my 3 year son, please help. 646712

Comments

The smallest wheel diameter this bike rack is compatible with is a 20 inch wheel, due to the span of the wheel cradles. I have checked with Kuat, and at this time they do now have an adapter that would help close the gap for bikes smaller than 12 inch wheels.

This bike rack is amazing. My husband and i put it together and installed it in about an hour. He tightened it but other than that I might have been able to build it myself. I used it the next day on a bike trip with a friend. We loaded and unloaded the bikes 6 times, and could not believe how easy it was. The bikes travelled without jiggling around and i felt very secure with them there. I like how it tilts up so you can leave it on the car, and tilts forward so you can access the back. I have a 2016 Tiguan. I am pretty sure my friend is going to buy one now. We loved it. 573969

The bike rack it still perfect! I have a new car but I kept the rack. I had it up in the Cariboo this summer. Our road into the lake is gravel and potholes. The rack kept my bike secure and safe. Can’t say enough about it. Thanks again.

Sturdy and adjustable. Exactly as advertised, no surprises or disappointments. Holds our two mountain bikes with no issues, even when we drive gravelly, pot hole filled roads. The rack arrived completely disassembled but included instructions that must be followed, otherwise the rack will not secure the bicycles correctly. 600019

I love this bike rack. I am a 55 year old women with a 14 year old daughter who does triathlons. We are both small people. Manhandling a couple of bikes above our heads make the thought of going riding intimidating. This rack solved all of those problems. You lift the bike approx. a foot and push the lever arm onto the front tire and away you go. In addition, the rack folds up and down with one push on the handle so the trunk is completely accessible if you leave the rack on the back of the car ( I drive a Subaru Forrester SUV) instead of taking it on and off after each ride. Putting it together took awhile but was not rocket science, but you only have to do it once. It is kind of heavy when you put it in the hitch, but it is heavy duty and I have no fears that it will break or get damaged. Plan to use this for a long time. 407323

Good product, but to much play for what I like. The pivot mechanism is not study enough to have a tight fit. The rack move with bikes after couple of use. The rack still hold the bikes but I'm afraid of the mouvement each time a take the road... Inside of the rack is without paint so it rust and I see rust drips on my new rack (3 mounths old). A good rack for the price, but I don't think it will serve me for years to come. Maybe it move because of my short wheels base car, but I'm septical. 686772

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

Got this product within 10 days of ordering, and etrailer was very communicative about when the product would arrive. I assembled it with only a slight amount of trouble. My only issues were 1- putting on the wheel well involves a bolt with an insert that says "up" on it with an arrow; the insert is supposed to fit into a slot on the wheel well, and will only do so if things are lined up correctly, so I had to figure out that the part on the wheel well that surrounds the actual metal rack ROTATES inside the part of the wheel well that actually holds the wheel. This enables the insert with "up" to fit into the slot. Confusing, but pretty simple once I figured it out. 2- My hitch is 1 1/4" and you have to take off the factory installed 2" adapter by unscrewing a bolt. The bolt was harder to take off than I was expecting, but finally got it! The rack comes with all the tools to install - no need to have a complete tool box or anything. Make sure to follow all the instructions carefully - there are a couple details that you could miss that would make installation a little difficult. For example - make sure you're not installing things upside down, make sure everything is facing the same way as in the manual (that's not just for aesthetics!) When putting your rack into the hitch, having two people might make it a little easier. I had a small bit of trouble adjusting it so the hole for the bolt lined up between the two parts (I got it, but another person would have made it a little less frustrating). My 29" small Anthem fits perfectly! I might leave another review in a few months after I've really used this thing, but so far I'm excited 488648

I'm really happy with my new kuat bike carrier. I'm impressed how well it secures the bikes so easily. (Both road & mtb) I also like the three different positions. (Up, middle, down) It has really came in handy transporting more than one bike now. (Use to put inside car) etrailer also shipped asap and followed up with me about my order! 491606

The carrier was a simple assembly and install. Well written instructions and all tools were included. Operates really simply and fits my 2018 Sentra SV just as it should with the Draw Tite receiver I purchased here. Had a few questions for the etrailer folks and all were answered quickly and courteously. Couldn't be happier with my new carrier! 619136

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

Ordered from Etrailer and received it here in Austin, TX in two business days. So I will say the processing and shipping was 5-STARS!!! * Assembly: Took me about 45 minutes to complete. The instructions were detailed and specific with pictures. All tools and hardware was in separate packing so you would know which bolds, nuts and screws (tools) needed to be used. * Quality: Seems that etrailer sent me this e-mail very quick to ask for me to put in a review. So I only owned it for 3 days and it is on my vehicle. I am using the 1.25" and removed to adapter to install it on my current hitch. I did install my 30# carbon fiber mountain bike and it was very easy to setup and lock down all fastening to secure a solid hold. I have yet to take a stroll down the road to see how it handles, but this is NOT my first receiver. I can tell you for the price this is a very, very nice receiver and I would not hesitate to trust it and take it even on a 2000 mile road trip! I like that it is light and remove and put away and it collapses down very nice. Warranty: One of the main reasons why I got this is because of the lifetime warranty. I hope I will never need to reach out to KUAT for any parts, but there are a lot of moving parts (straps, bolts) that may wear down or fall off. I do recommend to run little bit of maintenance on this bike rack by re-tightening bolts and nuts to make sure the hold is secure. Since you'll have to assemble this it would just be ideal, especially in the 1st 6-months of use to make sure things are secure. After that I think the maintenance part of it can be ignored. However a clean bike transporter is a happy bike transporter :) ! Overall: SOLID and no regrets on this purchase!! If anyone cares, my last bike transporter was a 1 bike / 1UP model. I sold it to get this one because this fits two bikes and the 1up I had to spend another $300 to get an add on bike plus shipping fees. So that bike rack was $500 + shipping. Other thoughts: I recommending getting the PN# PTSCLK12 to cable secure your bikes and the bike transporter itself. Its a good $40 investment especially for the lock to your vehicle to bike transporter. The dual cable locks are decent, it will not protect you from the bad bike thief's out there, but it'll keep the honest people honest! 470107

This is the second unit I have purchased. I bought one over a year ago and love it. I bought a second one for my son to use while he’s away at college. I really like way this design holds the bikes; very secure and easy to switch between road bikes and mountain bikes. I would strongly recommend the lock kit - just buy it right away. It’s so much better being able to leave the vehicle and never worry about your bikes being stolen. 603165

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

Love it! Super easy to get the bikes off and on. One bolt secures the rack to the vehicle so putting the bike rack on the car or taking it off is also a relatively quick and easy operation. The bike rack isn't light though, so lifting it into place may not be easy for everyone. The one minor thing to consider is that since this is a 3 bike rack, my leg isn't long enough to reach the tilt lever with 3 bikes on the rack (not really a big deal since I just stand to the side, bend down and use my hand). Having said that, I love that I have a tilt option that allows access to my hatchback without having to take the bikes off. Would make this purchase again. 399276

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

This is as nice a two bike, platform hitch rack as I've seen at any price.( Getting it through etrailer made it even less expensive than everywhere else.) Everything about this rack speaks of quality. The only negative review that I saw said if left on the vehicle for a couple of years caused it to rust out. I sprayed WD-40 liquid lithium on the inside of all the steel tubes. (I learned to do this with all my archery tree stands.) I'm hoping that my wife and I are good to go for many years. And the rack sure does look nice on our new VW Tiguan! 485892

it does the job and it very simple to work and i like the option of 1.25 or 2" sleeve. Time will tell on the quality. We have used it regularly since June 2018 long trips 3-9 hours of driving and several local 30 min drives and never has shown signs of loosening up and bikes tumbling down the road. 562794

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

Very satisfied. Assembly went pretty well, not super smooth or quick, but do theses kinds of things ever? I had to ream out a couple of holes with a drill bit because they weren't aligned properly. If memory serves me correctly, it was were the lock cap at the top of the arms. It won't be major if you have any amount of tool experience. We traveled from central Illinois to the Upper Peninsula, MI, then to central OH, back into Michigan a bit and then home to central IL. At least one road in the UP was back woods rough; it fed the logging areas, to give an idea. Both bikes rode like contented babies the entire trip. Very easy to get them on and off the rack. And I like how the rack pivots down for access to the hatch, and up to get out of the way when bikes aren't on it. 445354

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

I assembled this rack pretty easily by myself in about an hour--easy instructions & all the hardware was clearly marked. Heads up: Getting the rack into the hitch was the tricky part--very hard to get it in with just 2 people. Not only is it very heavy & therefore very sturdy (52 lbs.), but the part that attaches to the hitch rotates up & down, so I needed my husband & our neighbor to lift it while I guided it into the hitch. With the 3 of us that part took only a couple of minutes. It folds up great--I thought it would add much more length to the car, but it is very compact when folded. The foot pedal is such a breeze to use. Taking the rack down takes a few seconds; at 1st I could not figure out how to reach the foot pedal when folding it back up. Then I realized I just had to swing the 1st two arms OUT to sides so I could walk in & depress the pedal. After I lifted the rack a few inches, I then could swing the arms all the way inward, & then finish snapping the rack into the folded position. The rack did wiggle a bit when I tested it by shaking it with my hand, but it not make any noise while driving, with or without the bikes on! I am very happy with it! 487012

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

The Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack is a well-designed and functional bike carrying rack. Assembly instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The tilting rack works very well, even loaded with two bikes, and provides ample clearance when opening the rear tailgate. I am very confident that my bikes will travel safe and secure on the Kuat Transfer 2. 579422

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

Delivery on time as scheduled; trailer staff was very helpful in answering questions about usability at the time we ordered. Assembly was easy enough; the enclosed would have been sufficient, but the KUAT video online gave nice confirmation. This rack is to replace a Yakima we returned that was just too heavy for my wife to put up and down on her own. This one is much more user-friendly, and the foot pedal to raise and lower the rack is very easy. The only thing bringing it down to a good is that the rack appears to be a bit loose in the hitch (we have the 1.25 inch hitch). I may have to rig something up to keep it a little tighter. It's not horrible, but gives me some concern about taking bikes on a longer trip. 224722

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

I ordered a Kuat Transfer 2 for my 2017 Subaru Outback with a 2" DrawTite hitch. Michael H cautioned me that the Transfer 2 would fit my vehicle but might not fold up when not in use due to proximity to the tailgate. I received the rack promptly and assembled it with no problems. It is a bit heavier than I would like but very sturdy. The rack will actually fold up OK on my car but as expected there is not much clearance. I will soon try it all out and report any issues. So far, very good experince with the rack and e-trailer. 295045

Rack was super easy to put together. Rack install was fairly easy. Highly recommend a helping hand or a floor Jack to hold one side of the hitch. 484330

Having owned this for a year now. It has been for the most part full time attached to my honda civic coupe 06 with no problems what so ever. Super simple to operate, even the wife can mount our bikes. Large and small transition patrol 15s. I would highly recommend this rack

Took less than 30min to put together and is simple to operate. Was a little nervous of how stable bike would be with only the front wheel hold down, BUT once i had it locked down I took it for a test drive over some bumpy roads and was extremely impressed with how solid the bike was held. 473089

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

I like the rack as it was affordable. I tend to leave on my car often and where i live it rains often. The other day i folded the rack all the way down and rust colored water poured out of the base supports. While affordable it was still expensive and would think for what it is, this would hold up better. 604684

Comments

The Kuat transfer bike rack is made of steel so it is susceptible to rust and corrosion if left in a moist environment. If the bike rack is left in the rain in the stowed position for extended periods of time the water will get inside of the bike rack and begin to corrode the inside. Which is why is why the rust colored water poured out when you unfolded it. It is a good idea to take the bike rack off of the vehicle sometimes and make sure there is not water inside of it. If you would like to switch to a more corrosive resistant material bike rack, Kuat does offer an aluminum bike rack part # SH22P. The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 is made of mostly aluminum parts, weighs 20 lbs less than the transfer and is considered rust proof. The only real difference between the Kuat Sherpa and Transfer is the Sherpa only allows you to carry 2 bikes.

This bike rack has been great. Got it originally because I wanted something that my wife was able to use by herself and this fit the bill. Very easy and quick to get bikes on and off. Never had any issues with stability either. We've taken 2 bikes on several cross country trips from PA to UT and back and also PA to FL. Folds conveniently and the full lowered position allows me to load and unload our recumbent trike in the SUV without removing the rack. 571297

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

I absolutely love this bike rack, and use it every day that the weather permits. While I usually leave it on my car, it is quite easy to remove and put back on. I have no problems lowering it to access the back hatch of my car. As a very petite woman, I was worried it would be too big or heavy to maneuver. But I have no problems getting it off or on. I can put my bike on it and have the bike secured in just seconds. Sometimes I pull up at the trailhead at the same time as other people. I am always the first one done with getting the bike loaded up. I usually ride alone, but when riding with a friend, it has been easy to load two bikes, and they both stay securely in their place, with no rubbing or scratching. I also had no problems putting it together by myself. It is perhaps the first item I’ve ever assembled that had the instructions written in correct and easy to understand English. I also want to say that the company has excellent customer service. I had called them with questions before purchasing, and they got back to me very promptly and answered all my questions. They also followed up with me one year later to check on how I liked their product. I consider them to be a first class company to do business with. 565424

  • Recommended Bike Rack and Fat Tire Adapter That Will fit 4.8" Tires

  • Can Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack # TS02G Carry Bike with 3 inch Wide Tires Without Adapter
  • Your 3 inch tire will fit perfectly into the wheel slots of the Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack # TS02G without using the adapter part # APBK. The adapter is only needed if the tire is fatter than 3 inches. You are right at the limit, but it's a "comfortable" limit so you'd be totally fine. If you think someday you will own a fat bike I'd go with the part # TS02G-FB now even though it's not needed, but otherwise you'd be fine with the standard # TS02B.

  • Tire Width Compatibility with Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Racks TS02G & TS02G-FB
  • The difference between the Kuat Transfer part # TS02G and # TS02G-FB is the length of the strap like you mentioned as well as the width of the wheel trays. The fat bike version has much wider wheel trays to accept the fat tires as well as longer straps to reach around them. The fat bike version will be what you need. You can fit non-fat bikes in this rack as well. It basically just offers the ability to fit the wider tires as well as more standard size ones.
