Video Transcript for Curt Balls A-90 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number A-90. This is the Curt hitch ball with a 2" diameter, medium shank and it's rated at 10,000 pounds and that comes with a gross towing weight. This hitch ball is going to give us a shank diameter which is this portion here of right at 1 1/4". So, when choosing a ball mount, you want make sure that the ball mount does have at least 1 1/4" opening to receive the 1 1/4" diameter shank that our ball mount has on it. The shank length, measuring from the bottom of the flange, the bottom of the shank bar is going to measure about 2 5/8". If we take the measurement from the bottom of the flange to the top of our hitch ball, it's going to give us a measurement of 2 3/4". Now again, this ball does have a capacity of 10,000 pounds.

It comes with a nut and a lock washer. Another thing that I want to mention real quick is that when choosing a ball mount you want to make sure that the ball mount has a 1/2" to 1" thick draw bar. As you can see on our ball mount today, it measures right around 1". So, it's definitely between that 1/2" to 1" mark. So this would be an appropriate ball mount to use. It also has 1 1/4" size diameter hole for our hitch ball. So the way this would install is we would take our ball, place it through the hole, place on our lock washer and secure it by tightening down our nut.

Our nut size is 1 7/8". So you need to make sure you have that size of wrench or socket to tighten this down and torque it down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. That's how you install it and that's going to complete our review of part number A-90. That's the Curt hitch ball with a 2" diameter, medium shank rated at 10,000 pounds. .

The ball is perfect fit for 1-1/4 receiver hole. A couple of taps to the top of the ball to get it fully seated and yiur ready to torque the nut down. If your looking for a heavy duty ball, this is rated at 10k lbs and should do the job. I was impressed with not only fulfillment but also the speed of shipment and the price was unbeatable! Customer service was also top notch taking time to contact me throughout the order and shipping process. No doubt this will serve my purpose of hauling around my trailer used for cars, tractors, motorcycles and other miscellaneous project items. I've included a couple pictures so you can get an idea of how heavy duty this ball is built. Great buying experience all the way around. 472755

Excellent hitch for the price. Just what my minivan needed after struggling with other types. Made a big difference in pulling my 3000 lb camper. Very easy to set up. I ordered the correct 1 1/4 inch ball shank for a proper fit. 141002

Economy shipping was lightning fast! Product is just what I wanted; it is pulling my 7,500lb horse trailer with no problem. The other reviews that worry about the chrome scratching...I think most of us know that's a given when one places a few tons of metal on top. Great product so far! 159864

After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch. 510345

Very good product and easy to install. My configuration allowed the lift brackets that came with the order to be used, so I didn't have to order the bracket kit. The installation videos on the e-trailer were excellent. Delivery was also prompt, only four days for me. My trailer only required a 2" ball rather than the 2 5/16" ball supplied. I had trouble finding a 2" ball locally with a 1 1/4" diameter shank. I ordered this from e-trailer and again delivery was prompt. I did have to buy some larger wrenches to work with the 2" nuts on the balls so keep that in mind if your a due-it-yourselfer. The manual was pretty good, but I got more out of the videos. I little more description on the initial setting of the friction sway control would have been helpful (i.e. is the factory setting midway? lowest? highest)? 267227

Simplicity is the key here. Very easy to order, customer service (Lisa D) asked a few questions about vehicle and what I needed to Tow, and like magic, she found this at a very good price which saved me $$$. It was very easy to install, heavy duty construction!! It shipped faster than other online sites could have done, a day and half later, UPS showed up with it. Back to installation, I watched the video and it worked as advertised. I never used one before, but it just works. Very satisfied. 552984

I recently purchased a used weight distribution hitch from a friend and it had a 2 5/16" ball on it. I needed the 2" ball for my purposes of loading my car hauler with my smoker and atv. My smoker sits at the front of my trailer adding 1,200lbs of weight to the tongue, with that in mind this was a great option to distribute the weight amongst my entire truck frame. etrailer was a great site to use in order to get my product to me fast and at a very reasonable price! This is my second time purchasing from etrailer and I'm looking forward to doing business with them again. 562788

The pole tongue adapter and Fastway E2 hitch work great together. Instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. I put it together following the basic setup and it didn't need much adjustment. I could recommend this setup for anyone. Our ice castle has a hydralic frame which you can use to hook the spring bars up. It greatly improved the ride, steering and handling of the rig. I also have a set of Air Lift 1000 in the rear (previously ordered from etrailer). They work great in conjunction with this hitch. And further add adjustability to the setup. 421008

I had a friend give me a heavy duty load leveling hitch to pull my camper with. It had a 2 5/8 inch ball on it already, but I needed a 2 inch ball. I checked the big box stores, and even the auto parts stores. No one carries a 2 inch ball with 2 1/4 inch shank. Found this company online, and now I have it. The only reason I didn’t rate 5 stars was the cost was about twice the amount of a regular 2 inch hitch ball, plus shipping.. But that’s the price you pay for a specialty item. Overall, happy to get it, and it’s installed on the hitch. 505702

Can't really say much about a hitch ball. As long as it can handle the haul, I will be satisfied. I will however comment that I was very happy with the ease of finding exactly what I was looking for on etrailer.com Ordering was easy as pie. Communication with regards to shipping was spot on and I received my order fast. Will definitely will be looking to etrailer.com in the future for my towing and trailer needs. My etrailer order was shipped promptly. etrailer contacted me several times by phone and via email after I placed the order (and after the order was shipped and delivered) to make sure everything was OK. All of the items I ordered are of high quality and good workmanship and I am very happy with the unusually high level of service and communication from etrailer staff. The Sway control ball was easy to install and works great. 420970

Great trailer ball for my use on 1985 Casitas trailer, weighing about 1300lbs. WhIle I got a shank diameter about 1/8" small, I filled space with silicone caulking to deter movement, and applied two lockwashers. Great price! 268765

I have purchased several A-90 10,000 lb rated hitch balls. We use them for towing trailers weighing about 5,000 lbs. our trucks tow about 750 miles every week, we need a good quility ball. Each year we change the hitch balls for safety. The A-90 shows little wear after 30,000+ miles of towing. We have never had an issue with the A-90 and will continue to use them. I recommend them to anyone using a 2" ball 1-1/4 shank. 435784

Very disappointing. The chrome coating began to flake off before I even installed it. I get it, it's not supposed to be a fashion accessory, but now I have exposed metal that instantly began to rust. It works, so I gave it 2 stars, but it's not the quality I have come to expect from a manufacturer like Curt. I have several of their other trailer products and love 'em. This one - not so much. 434368

I can't really give this trailer ball anything better than good because I haven't used it yet. It looks good, fits and is true to the specs. The price was outstanding. Get back to me in two years and ask for an update. THEN I'll know how it actually works! I'll also take a picture then so we can see how the finish held up. Thanks for the opportunity to give this honest review.- WB 405301

Ordered to fit the 1 1/4" hole in the ball mount that came with my 2014 Tundra. This is one heavy duty 2" ball, 10,000# rating, Class IV that will handle anything that I should ever decide to pull. Flat shoulders makes it nice to fit a large adjustable wrench without having to mess up the finish with a pipe wrench. Takes some grunting to get the 470 ft.lbs of torque. 139631

First of all, the products you find at etrailer are not your garden variety, home depot kind of fair. Much higher quality and grade/weight ratings. So to be able to get hard to find items and then by orderring at least 100$ worth of stuff also get it delivered free in 4 days, is awesome. If I had found this ball locally, it would have been at least twice the price. 377590

I could not find an over the counter 10,000 lb. ball with the right shank size. Found it with no problem at etrailer. We use the 10,000 to rep[lace our 6,000 with for safety. My trucks tow about 25,000 miles each per year and we change the hitch ball because of wear and shock load. This is the way to go with a 2-inch ball for wear and safety. 162996

Excellent product, great fit & finish. Very competative price. I spent more than this on gas . . . trying to find it locally. They don't sell enough to keep a good stock. Every plated ball I've ever owned scarred & rusts. . . .. A stainless steel ball this size would be out of sight. etrailer will be my 1st stop for trailer parts 41507

Just a meat-and-potatoes 2" hitch ball to fit a 1-1/4" hole in a ball mount. Threads were nice and clean. Nut fit the shank well. Includes lock washer. Shank was long enough to mount correctly to a class 5 Titan 8" drop hitch. When torque was specs was reached, the nut felt very solid. Whench flats very helpful during tightening. 398684

High quality. the nut is bigger than the balls with the 1" shank. I have a wrench for the nut on 1" shank but not this one, I was able to get it tight enough with a monkey wrench and a bench vice. you could probably get a wrench form harbor freight for cheep or take it somewhere and have them install it. 27248

There isn't much difference between this ball and other balls. However this one is very thick and heavy and should handle the 10,000 lbs capacity rating with no question what so ever. Little more costly then the smaller ones but you get what You pay for. 461915

Looks to be an excellent and heavy duty hitch ball. However, I did not realize it would not fit my standard draw bar. The shaft on the hitch is significantly thicker than a standard hitch ball. I guess I should have thought about that, but I did not. 109397

  • To determine which of the weight distribution hitches among the ones you mentioned would be right for your application, you will need to know the actual as-towed tongue weight of the trailer. This would encompass the weight of anything loaded on the trailer. Also, the weight of any gear stowed in the tow vehicle behind the rear axle would need to be considered as tongue weight. I am including a link to a weight distribution FAQ page that shows a good method of determining your trailer...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch With Anti-Sway for a 4800lb Passport Trailer
  • When selecting a weight distribution system for your towing needs, there are a few choices to make. The first and most important decision is to select a system that is properly rated for the capacity your setup requires. Since you have 4800 pounds gross trailer weight, I would recommend a weight distribution system with a 10000 pound gross weight and 600 pound tongue weight like the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control, item # RP66086, featuring dual-cam sway control,...

  • Comparing the Reese Light Duty Weight Distribution System to the Pro Series RB2 for a 2700lb trailer
  • When choosing a weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2004 Honda Odyssey. Tongue weight of a trailer is typically calculated to be 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. If your Scamp trailer weighs 2,700 lbs, then the tongue weight may be around 270 lbs to 405 lbs. You must then add the weight of the cargo that you load in the back...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System With Sway Control For 29 Ft Arctic Fox Trailer
  • To find the best weight distribution with sway control you will need to know a couple things. First, you already know the weight of the trailer as you said you had it weighed when it was unhitched and that was 11,200 lbs. The next thing you need to know is the tongue weight. This should be done when the trailer is loaded and ready-to-tow condition. You need the tongue weight of the trailer added to the cargo weight in the tow vehicle behind the rear axle. You then try to find a system...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2017 Rpod 178 Camper
  • Thanks for the kind words! Before we get into the best weight distribution solution for your needs you should note that the best way to fight sway is in how you load the trailer. If you can move as much weight to the front of the trailer and make sure it is sitting as level as possible that will be your best way to prevent the sway. Now the best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow....

  • Difference Between Blue Ox Sway Pro Weight Distribution # BXW1500 and # BXW1503
  • The only difference between the two Blue Ox Sway Pro units you mentioned is that the # BXW1503 is designed for trailers whose couplers are mounted to the underside of the trailer tongue, while the # BXW1500 is designed for couplers mounted in the standard way, on top of the tongue. Is the 1310 lb weight you mentioned the actual fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight? Or does is represent the maximum trailer tongue weight? If the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of...

  • Weight Distribution System for a 2007 Chevy Suburban Towing a 7,500 Pound Camper
  • You are limited by the lowest rated factor in your towing system. In your case, the limiting factor is your hitch, which is rated for 5,000lbs without using weight distribution. If you do use weight distribution, you'd be limited to the vehicle's 7000 lb towing capacity (if that's the case.) Without using weight distribution your hitch does not have a high enough capacity rating to tow your camper safely. If the vehicle tow capacity is indeed 7000 lbs, I would recommend a weight distribution...

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 8,000 LB Travel Trailer
  • Typically the tongue weight of a travel trailer is 10 to 15 percent of the trailer's fully loaded weight. Since you mention that your fully loaded trailer is probably close to 8,000 pounds, a tongue weight of 750 pounds sounds a bit on the light side. I recommend that you verify the tongue weight and fully loaded weight of your trailer just to make sure that you are purchasing the system that is best for you. I am including an article that goes over ways to measure tongue weight. If...

  • What Weight Distribution System for 2010 Town and Country Pulling Coleman Utah Pop-Up Trailer
  • First it is important that you confirm your vehicle towing capacity. The LX version of the 2010 Town and Country has a tow rating of 1800-lbs; the touring/limited version has a maximum tow rating of 3800-lbs. Your owners manual or local dealership can give you confirmation of the towing capacity for your vehicle. When a trailer weighs more than 50-percent of the tow vehicle a weight distribution system may be called for. The 2010 Chrysler Town and Country has a curb weight of 4335- to...

  • I have a couple of different weight distribution recommendations for you. But first, you need to contact the vehicle dealer and make sure that your 2012 Audi Q5 is compatible for use with a weight distribution system added to the trailer hitch. I did some research online and could not find a weight distribution recommendation for the OEM hitch that is inatalled on the Audi Q5. If not, the option of a single sway bar, like part # 83660, and a Sway-Control Bracket for 2 inch Ball Mounts,...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution For 2007 Weekend Warrior Toy Hauler
  • The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big...

  • What is the Towing Capacity of a 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition
  • The best place to look for the towing capacities of a vehicle is in the owners manual. The manual will give you what the vehicle is capable of. Usually on the hitch there is a sticker with the hitches capacities. Which ever is lower, the vehicle or the hitch, is the capacity you need to go by. Based on a manual I found online through Ford, the tow capacity of the vehicle is as follows: With a 5.4 liter engine, standard tow package, 2-wheel drive the gross trailer weight capacity is...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for Towing a 24 Foot Travel Trailer with a 2005 Isuzu Ascender
  • You are correct, the 24 foot Coachman travel trailer you are considering will require weight distribution for use with your vehicle, and for safety sway control is a good idea. The dual cam sway control you have referenced is the best sway control available, and keeps sway from starting rather than reacting to it like some other systems. You will need to check your trailer weight fully loaded and ready to tow, to be sure you are within the capacity of the hitch and vehicle. Your vehicle...

  • The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System you mentioned, # TFR1502D is primarily designed to suspend the load of cargo stored in the bed of your truck, and will not have much if any effect on trailer sway. First and foremost, if the trailer has insufficient tongue weight, it will be more susceptible to sway. The tongue weight of the trailer should be at least 10 percent of the weight of the trailer. If it is less, try moving some of the gear stowed in the trailer forward of the...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for 5000 lb Travel Trailer Towed by 2004 GMC Sierra

Make sure that the tongue weight figure you use includes the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer. The weight of anything stowed behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle also needs to be included in the tongue weight figure. • Weight Distribution Recommendation for a Toyota 4Runner and a 4,100 Pound Trailer and Horse
  • When choosing a weight distribution system for your Toyota 4Runner and trailer, you will want one that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses your trailer tongue weight, loaded and ready to tow. At a total of 4,100 pounds, your trailer tongue weight should be between 410 and 615 pounds (10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight). You should not need to add a new trailer hitch as long as your current hitch has a 2 inch receiver and it and the vehicle are rated for use with...
