Video Transcript for Curt Balls A-90 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number A-90. This is the Curt hitch ball with a 2" diameter, medium shank and it's rated at 10,000 pounds and that comes with a gross towing weight. This hitch ball is going to give us a shank diameter which is this portion here of right at 1 1/4". So, when choosing a ball mount, you want make sure that the ball mount does have at least 1 1/4" opening to receive the 1 1/4" diameter shank that our ball mount has on it. The shank length, measuring from the bottom of the flange, the bottom of the shank bar is going to measure about 2 5/8". If we take the measurement from the bottom of the flange to the top of our hitch ball, it's going to give us a measurement of 2 3/4". Now again, this ball does have a capacity of 10,000 pounds.

It comes with a nut and a lock washer. Another thing that I want to mention real quick is that when choosing a ball mount you want to make sure that the ball mount has a 1/2" to 1" thick draw bar. As you can see on our ball mount today, it measures right around 1". So, it's definitely between that 1/2" to 1" mark. So this would be an appropriate ball mount to use. It also has 1 1/4" size diameter hole for our hitch ball. So the way this would install is we would take our ball, place it through the hole, place on our lock washer and secure it by tightening down our nut.

Our nut size is 1 7/8". So you need to make sure you have that size of wrench or socket to tighten this down and torque it down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. That's how you install it and that's going to complete our review of part number A-90. That's the Curt hitch ball with a 2" diameter, medium shank rated at 10,000 pounds. .

Excellent hitch for the price. Just what my minivan needed after struggling with other types. Made a big difference in pulling my 3000 lb camper. Very easy to set up. I ordered the correct 1 1/4 inch ball shank for a proper fit. 141002

Economy shipping was lightning fast! Product is just what I wanted; it is pulling my 7,500lb horse trailer with no problem. The other reviews that worry about the chrome scratching...I think most of us know that's a given when one places a few tons of metal on top. Great product so far! 159864

Very good product and easy to install. My configuration allowed the lift brackets that came with the order to be used, so I didn't have to order the bracket kit. The installation videos on the e-trailer were excellent. Delivery was also prompt, only four days for me. My trailer only required a 2" ball rather than the 2 5/16" ball supplied. I had trouble finding a 2" ball locally with a 1 1/4" diameter shank. I ordered this from e-trailer and again delivery was prompt. I did have to buy some larger wrenches to work with the 2" nuts on the balls so keep that in mind if your a due-it-yourselfer. The manual was pretty good, but I got more out of the videos. I little more description on the initial setting of the friction sway control would have been helpful (i.e. is the factory setting midway? lowest? highest)? 267227

The pole tongue adapter and Fastway E2 hitch work great together. Instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. I put it together following the basic setup and it didn't need much adjustment. I could recommend this setup for anyone. Our ice castle has a hydralic frame which you can use to hook the spring bars up. It greatly improved the ride, steering and handling of the rig. I also have a set of Air Lift 1000 in the rear (previously ordered from etrailer). They work great in conjunction with this hitch. And further add adjustability to the setup. 421008

My etrailer order was shipped promptly. etrailer contacted me several times by phone and via email after I placed the order (and after the order was shipped and delivered) to make sure everything was OK. All of the items I ordered are of high quality and good workmanship and I am very happy with the unusually high level of service and communication from etrailer staff. The Sway control ball was easy to install and works great. 420970

Great trailer ball for my use on 1985 Casitas trailer, weighing about 1300lbs. WhIle I got a shank diameter about 1/8" small, I filled space with silicone caulking to deter movement, and applied two lockwashers. Great price! 268765

I have purchased several A-90 10,000 lb rated hitch balls. We use them for towing trailers weighing about 5,000 lbs. our trucks tow about 750 miles every week, we need a good quility ball. Each year we change the hitch balls for safety. The A-90 shows little wear after 30,000+ miles of towing. We have never had an issue with the A-90 and will continue to use them. I recommend them to anyone using a 2" ball 1-1/4 shank. 435784

My order was received on time and with everything that was ordered. The hitch has been put on my trailer and working great. Thanks to Suzanne and her knowledge of the product was excellent.Thank You. The 2" ball was just what I needed thought it may have not been available for the bigger hitch but thanks to Suzanne it was just what I needed. Thanks again and I'm sure if I ever need more from E Trailer I will be in touch. 162651

Very disappointing. The chrome coating began to flake off before I even installed it. I get it, it's not supposed to be a fashion accessory, but now I have exposed metal that instantly began to rust. It works, so I gave it 2 stars, but it's not the quality I have come to expect from a manufacturer like Curt. I have several of their other trailer products and love 'em. This one - not so much. 434368

I can't really give this trailer ball anything better than good because I haven't used it yet. It looks good, fits and is true to the specs. The price was outstanding. Get back to me in two years and ask for an update. THEN I'll know how it actually works! I'll also take a picture then so we can see how the finish held up. Thanks for the opportunity to give this honest review.- WB 405301

Ordered to fit the 1 1/4" hole in the ball mount that came with my 2014 Tundra. This is one heavy duty 2" ball, 10,000# rating, Class IV that will handle anything that I should ever decide to pull. Flat shoulders makes it nice to fit a large adjustable wrench without having to mess up the finish with a pipe wrench. Takes some grunting to get the 470 ft.lbs of torque. 139631

First of all, the products you find at etrailer are not your garden variety, home depot kind of fair. Much higher quality and grade/weight ratings. So to be able to get hard to find items and then by orderring at least 100$ worth of stuff also get it delivered free in 4 days, is awesome. If I had found this ball locally, it would have been at least twice the price. 377590

Have been to etrailer site several times now to order parts to complete different projects, like this hitch ball. I have bought incomplete projects with missing parts and saved a lot of money.I go to a site like etrailer and pick up what i need, there parts and service is the best & fasts .... everything ivd bought from them has been the best quality. 423834

I could not find an over the counter 10,000 lb. ball with the right shank size. Found it with no problem at etrailer. We use the 10,000 to rep[lace our 6,000 with for safety. My trucks tow about 25,000 miles each per year and we change the hitch ball because of wear and shock load. This is the way to go with a 2-inch ball for wear and safety. 162996

Excellent product, great fit & finish. Very competative price. I spent more than this on gas . . . trying to find it locally. They don't sell enough to keep a good stock. Every plated ball I've ever owned scarred & rusts. . . .. A stainless steel ball this size would be out of sight. etrailer will be my 1st stop for trailer parts 41507

Just a meat-and-potatoes 2" hitch ball to fit a 1-1/4" hole in a ball mount. Threads were nice and clean. Nut fit the shank well. Includes lock washer. Shank was long enough to mount correctly to a class 5 Titan 8" drop hitch. When torque was specs was reached, the nut felt very solid. Whench flats very helpful during tightening. 398684

Product was shipped immediately and arrived quickly in great shape. Communication was frequent, always keeping me informed of the status of my order and shipment. completely satisfied , good shipping, good products . I use the 2 inch hitch and 2 inch ball about every week on my jeep grand cherokee . High quality. the nut is bigger than the balls with the 1" shank. I have a wrench for the nut on 1" shank but not this one, I was able to get it tight enough with a monkey wrench and a bench vice. you could probably get a wrench form harbor freight for cheep or take it somewhere and have them install it. 27248

Perfect fit for my 2011 2500HD duramax and quality is very good. Drop is perfect for stock ride height. Solid and Heavy. Best part was help from George J who proactively reached out to make sure it would reach me in time. Service like that is rare based on my ordering from other online retailers. 392742

I like a heavy ball 10,000 lbs for safety. I had an extra 2&5/16 new ball hitch with 6-inch drop that I really liked but needed to run a 2-inch ball. This lets me use my heavy hitch. I feel much safer with it. I load my trailer up to 5000 lbs and like to know that that I have a good weight buffer. 215849

Not a lot that you can say about a trailer hitch ball but a lot can be said about etrailer. I had not been able to find a 2 inch ball with a 1 1/4 inch shank diameter. None of the big box stores . Etrailer had it, I ordered it and received it in 4 days. Great choices and great service. 409133

There isn't much difference between this ball and other balls. However this one is very thick and heavy and should handle the 10,000 lbs capacity rating with no question what so ever. Little more costly then the smaller ones but you get what You pay for. 461915

- A-90

Looks to be an excellent and heavy duty hitch ball. However, I did not realize it would not fit my standard draw bar. The shaft on the hitch is significantly thicker than a standard hitch ball. I guess I should have thought about that, but I did not. 109397

Ball looks great! Very stout, and fits my ball mount as advertised. Needs a 1 7/8" wrench for proper installation. I should have thought of that, I've been a machinist for 30 years! Totally on me. Can't wait to hitch up the trailer and head out! 98519

I bought this hitch ball to go on the 2.5" Curt Forged Ball Mount (C45458). Make sure you have a couple of large wrenches (1-13/16") to tighten this bad boy up with. I used a wrench on the flats and a pipe wrench to tighten the nut. 166376

Just as described only the picture makes it look matte but it is chrome. A good thing about this ball is it has a spot on the neck of the ball where you can put a wrench to help keep it still while you tighten it. 161649

  • Will the Addition of Weight Distribution Increase Towing Capacity for a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado
  • Your salesman is correct in that a weight distribution system will, in most cases, allow a vehicle to tow additional weight, but the amount of additional weight is not a static number and is vehicle specific. You should check your owners manual, or the vehicle dealer, for hitch specifications for the Max Gross trailer weight allowable when using a weight distributing hitch. I checked the online owners manual for a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. If this is the the vehicle you will be towing...

  • Best Weight Distribution Kit for 2013 Ford Explorer Towing a 2500 lb Trailer
  • The key to choosing the correct weight distribution system is knowing the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow. You should also keep in mind that anything loaded behind the rear axle of your 2013 Ford Explorer will contribute to the tongue weight as well. I would recommend choosing a system that has a tongue weight range that encompasses the tongue weight of your trailer with its heaviest load. The tongue weight of a trailer is typically calculated...

It will keep the truck and trailer in a straight line which stops sway before it starts. You could technically have the Ford system on with...

  • Recommendation for the Right Weight Distribution System for Towing a 30 Foot Trailer
  • To determine which of the weight distribution hitches among the ones you mentioned would be right for your application, you will need to know the actual as-towed tongue weight of the trailer. This would encompass the weight of anything loaded on the trailer. Also, the weight of any gear stowed in the tow vehicle behind the rear axle would need to be considered as tongue weight. I am including a link to a weight distribution FAQ page that shows a good method of determining your trailer...

  • Towing Recommendations for a 2015 Honda Odyssey
  • First lets start with a hitch for your vehicle. I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75270 because it has a high towing capacity compared to the Curt Hitch. Next the wiring harness that is custom fit for your 2015 Honda Odyssey is # 118521 this will provide you with a 4-pole connector at the back of your tow vehicle. Don't worry that your vehicle isn't already prewired for a brake controller, I have a solution for that too. Our # ETBC7 kit includes everything you need to install an electric...

  • Towing Setup Recommendations for a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan SE
  • The final authority on the tow capacity is the owner's manual. If your owners manual says 3,600 weight carrying and 5,000 lbs weight distribution then that is the actual capacity your vehicle has. The Draw-Tite part # 75579 that you referenced would be an excellent hitch that has similar capacities. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well. Now a weight distribution system is a hitch that distributes some of the tongue weight on the hitch to the front...

  • The only difference between the two Blue Ox Sway Pro units you mentioned is that the # BXW1503 is designed for trailers whose couplers are mounted to the underside of the trailer tongue, while the # BXW1500 is designed for couplers mounted in the standard way, on top of the tongue. Is the 1310 lb weight you mentioned the actual fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight? Or does is represent the maximum trailer tongue weight? If the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for Towing a 24 Foot Travel Trailer with a 2005 Isuzu Ascender
  • You are correct, the 24 foot Coachman travel trailer you are considering will require weight distribution for use with your vehicle, and for safety sway control is a good idea. The dual cam sway control you have referenced is the best sway control available, and keeps sway from starting rather than reacting to it like some other systems. You will need to check your trailer weight fully loaded and ready to tow, to be sure you are within the capacity of the hitch and vehicle. Your vehicle...

  • Weight Distribution for Chevy Silverado 1500 and Toy Hauler Trailer with 860 lbs Dry Tongue Weight
  • When choosing weight distribution you need to go by the total tongue weight. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. A dry tongue weight of 860 pounds means that when loaded it is bound to be more so you will want a system with a tongue weight capacity range high enough to cover the loaded tongue weight. Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent...

  • Comparing the Reese Light Duty Weight Distribution System to the Pro Series RB2 for a 2700lb trailer
  • When choosing a weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2004 Honda Odyssey. Tongue weight of a trailer is typically calculated to be 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. If your Scamp trailer weighs 2,700 lbs, then the tongue weight may be around 270 lbs to 405 lbs. You must then add the weight of the cargo that you load in the back...

The LX version of the 2010 Town and Country has a tow rating of 1800-lbs; the touring/limited version has a maximum tow rating of 3800-lbs. Your owners manual or local dealership can give you confirmation of the towing capacity for your vehicle. When a trailer weighs more than 50-percent of the tow vehicle a weight distribution system may be called for. The 2010 Chrysler Town and Country has a curb weight of 4335- to...

  • What is the Towing Capacity of a 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition
  • The best place to look for the towing capacities of a vehicle is in the owners manual. The manual will give you what the vehicle is capable of. Usually on the hitch there is a sticker with the hitches capacities. Which ever is lower, the vehicle or the hitch, is the capacity you need to go by. Based on a manual I found online through Ford, the tow capacity of the vehicle is as follows: With a 5.4 liter engine, standard tow package, 2-wheel drive the gross trailer weight capacity is...

This hitch is economically priced and can tow up to 6,000 pounds or 10,000 pounds with a proper weight distribution system, if your van has sufficient towing capacity. • The key to selecting a weight distribution (WD) and sway control system for your 27-foot trailer is to measure your fully-loaded ready-to-tow tongue weight (TW) using a scale like the Sherline # 5780 or by one of the methods shown in the linked article. You also need to add in the weight of anything in the truck that sits behind the rear axle, such as a generator or loaded cooler. Using a system that has much heavier duty spring bars like the # PS49903 may result in a stiff ride and a bouncing trailer. Using a system rated too low will make the system virtually useless. • Recommendation for Weight Distribution and Sway Control When Towing a 4,000 Pound Trailer
  • Weight distribution is a good idea when the gross trailer weight is 50 percent or more of the vehicle weight or if you are experiencing sag at the rear of your truck. Weight distribution, as the name implies, takes the weight of the trailer and transfers to all the axles of both the towing vehicle and the trailer. For a trailer weighing 4,000 pounds with a tongue weight at 400 to 600 pounds (10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight), I recommend Pro Series RB2 Round Bar Weight Distribution...
