Seems like a great product haven't had to use It yet I got it to mount to my UTV for pulling trailers around the property 551243

Works as presented. I forgot to order a second hitch pin; I wish it came with one since you can't use it without two of them. I did get some rattling over rough payment that was clearly coming from the hitch connection - although it may have been the trailer coupler and not a result of the slight play between the receiver and extension. I wished it had a threaded pin hole so as to allow for the extension to be tightened down. 64940

I was struggling to make a bike rack work on a Jeep Wrangler 2-door with spare tire. First, the phone rep was excellent, providing thoughtful comments and advice. She helped me make a good decision. She took all the time necessary for a small, purchase price. The hitch extension worked perfectly. The locking hitch pin was easy to install and provides Great security. Not a rattle to be heard. Moreover, I can now open my tailgate to access the rear and transport three bikes on a Wrangler. 188141

This part is very strong and fit my truck perfectly. I am very happy with the purchase. The company did a great job getting it to me on time. I needed it quickly for a client fishing outing and it came on time. They did a great job. I would recommend this product for anybody who needs a bit of room between the truck and the trailer. It is also helpful for those who tow boats, since the part effectively makes the trailer longer. This helps keep the exhaust pipe out of the water on the boat ramp. As a fly fishing guide, this part made a big difference to my business. 488068

Just what I was looking for,I have a Hummer and with the large spare on the rear I could not put a lift for my handicap scooter on the back, but with this extender problem was solved. The service from etrailer was great it seemed as if it arrived overnight.I added yellow reflectors to each side to keep me from banging into it in low light.Overall great product 480344

Using the extender will lower the tongue weight capacity maximum amount of weight that can be safely suspended from your hitch by half. For instance, if your current hitch tongue weight capacity is 400 lbs, using the extender will lower that by half to 200 lbs. This would mean that the mobility scooter and the carrier could weigh no more than 200 lbs. Your hitch will have a sticker somewhere on it that lists its gross towing and tongue weight capacity.

A much-needed item when pulling my utility trailer with my Jeep. This allows a greater distance between the Jeep and the trailer so I can clear the trailer's a-frame mounted landing gear/support leg from the Jeep's spare tire when I open the back door. 584687

Comments

Were glad to hear that the extender is working well for you. Please keep in mind that using an extender will reduce the towing and the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by half. The extra length of the extender moves the trailer tongue weight further away from the hitch, which increases the leverage place on the hitch and its attachment points to the vehicle.

The staff at etrailer made my buying experience nothing short unforgettable...they are prompt on receiving your order and processing it in a timely fashion. In my case I was confused on what it was I exactly needed; they emailed me a number of options that would accommodate my needs with budget and price range in mind. This is the second time I have purchased from etrailer and they made me feel like family; they can count on me being a long term customer from here on out! And last but not least the product speaks for itself. Towing a trailer from state to state can make you a sceptic of your equipments endurance and toughness; I know my hitch and components are one less thing I need to worry about... 539536

This product (manufactured in China) is sturdy with nice, heavy coats of paint. On the advice of the etrailer.com expert, I purchased this 12 inch extender for my Thule T2 pro XT (trailer hitch mount) platform bike rack. As it turns out, an 8 inch extension would have been a better choice for my stock 2017 Jeep Wrangler (with OEM sized spare tire). Oh well. 518916

Pulling a double axle 16' flatbed with 2 to 4 quads on it. Product works well. No back and forth sway. More stable then I anticipated it would be. Plenty of clearance for the back of my 10' slide-in camper, the reason for buying this product in the first place. I would recommend this, but be mindful of the tongue weight on the hitch. 514198

  • Compatibility Of Platform Bike Rack With Jeep Wrangler Spare Tire
  • The Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting - Black # TH9034XT will need an extension to clear your rear spare. From the center of the hitch pin hole this rack is 7 inches to the closest part of the rack when in position to carry bikes and when folded is 5 inches to closest part. This is an excellent bike rack, so I recommend using the MaxxTow Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 12" Long # MT70024. This will reduce your trailer hitch tongue weight capacity...

  • Is There A Standard Size for a 2 Inch Receiver
  • As you've discovered, a 2 inch receiver doesn't always measure exactly two inches by two inches. There is a manufacturing tolerance involved that allows the receiver to be a few hundredths of an inches larger or smaller than 2 inches, but still be within tolerance. Due to the fact that the connection between a hitch receiver and the shank of a ball mount or hitch mounted accessory isn't meant to be a precision fit, the tolerances are generous. These tolerances are common in manufactured...

  • Availability of 12 inch Hitch Extender for 2015 Ram 3500 for Towing 5,200 lb Horse Trailer
  • Hitch extenders typically cut the capacity of the hitch they are used on in half. However, if you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch installed the part # HR26 would be perfect as it is right at 12 inches. The good news is that with a 2-1/2 inch hitch the extenders only cut the capacity by 25 percent instead. If you have a 2 inch hitch on your truck you instead would want the part # MT70024. Your truck should have a very high capacity hitch installed on it and reducing it by 25 or 50 percent...

  • I have a solution for you, but the Roadmaster Anti-Rattle Hitch Extender for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 7-3/4" Extension, # RM-071-1075, is designed to be used in flat towing applications. When flat towing a vehicle behind an motorhome there is less tongue weight on the hitch than when you are towing a trailer. That's why the Roadmaster hitch extender has a low tongue weight rating and should not be used in trailer applications. I recommend using a ball mount with a longer shank, like...

But using it will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. I would normally recommend going with # D210 but it only has a 2-1/4 inch drop. Like you have said, by using the extension the tongue weight capacity of the hitch is reduced by 50 percent. Adapters also introduce the chance for more random motion and rattle in a towing system. It is never a good idea to use multiple extenders - even if welded together - as these items would not have been designed...

  • Recommended Hitch Extender to Gain 12 Inches Clearance Between Tow Vehicle and Trailer
  • I'm a bit confused by your question, I guess I don't quite understand why you'd need to use an adapter to tow a trailer. If you need the 11 or 12 inches of extra clearance, use the MaxxTow # MT70024 hitch extender. It would install into your 2 inch receiver, and you'd install your 2 inch ball mount in the other end. • Solution for Clearing Spare Tire on Jeep Wrangler for Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
  • We do have a large selection of hitch extenders that are designed for exactly the situation you described in your question. The particular extender you choose will depend on how much distance you are needing in order to clear the spare tire on your Jeep Wrangler. I recommend taking a quick measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch receiver, to the outermost edge of the spare tire. You will just need to make sure you pick an extender that will reach at least this distance....

  • Solution for Lengthening Distance Between Hitch and Boat Trailer for Launching

Basically this fits into your 2 inch trailer hitch and gives you a second hitch opening 18 inches back from that. For a slightly smaller extension we have the part # MT70024 which would give you 12 inches instead. You should note that these extensions cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent.

The clamp part of the ball mount requires just 1-1/2 inches of free space on the shank. It is not meant to fit on a 2-1/2 inch shank or adapter/extender.
