Features to know about

Get More Out of Your Vehicle: Class III Strength for Everyday Towing and Carrying

This hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs maximum gross trailer weight and 525 lbs maximum tongue weight, making it a solid choice for light to moderate towing. It handles small trailers, campers, and boats easily, and it’s just as handy for carrying bike racks or cargo carriers. The 2" x 2" receiver opening works with the most common accessories, so your existing gear will likely fit right in.

Built to Last: Matte Black Powder Coat Over Protective Base

The steel construction is fully welded for strength and durability, while the matte black powder coat finish resists corrosion and hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy hitch. It has a rugged, carbide-like appearance that blends in nicely with most bumpers and trim. The finish adds protection against the elements so it stays looking good season after season.

Simple Garage Install: Bolt-On Design With No Welding Required

Installation is straightforward thanks to the custom-fit design that bolts directly to the vehicle’s frame. There’s no welding needed, and all the mounting hardware and instructions come in the box. The precision robotic welding ensures proper alignment so the hitch lines up right where it should. It’s designed with DIY installation in mind using common tools you probably already have.

A Clean Look That Works Hard: Concealed Cross Tube

Only the 2" receiver tube is visible once installed, giving the hitch a tidy, built-in look under the bumper. The concealed cross tube keeps things looking clean while maintaining full Class III towing strength. It’s sturdy enough to take on daily hauling but subtle enough that it won’t stand out when not in use.

One year with this hitch and I have zero complaints. Installed it myself following the how-to video which was clear and straightforward. I’ve mainly used it for hauling bikes so no use with trailers yet but I feel confident in its ability to tow, and it’s held up without any issues. The build quality is solid, with no rust or wear, and it still feels as sturdy as the day I installed it. I really appreciate how dependable it’s been—gives me peace of mind every time I tow. Definitely worth the investment.

by:

Great product, seems really strong (heavy anyway!) Super easy installation. I had it installed within an hour of receiving it, with a little help from my neighbors. Definitely need a spare set of hands to hold things in position while threading the nuts, but once they're started everyone can relax. I can't imagine it will ever wear out, but if it does I'll definitely order another. NOTE: Watching the install videos was extremely helpful!

Looks fantastic on your '25 Subaru Crosstrek, Ruben! Now that you've installed it, any words of advice for anyone hoping to tackle this at home, too?

by:

I installed this in a '21 crosstrek without dropping the exhaust. Tricky but possible. Seems like a good product.

by:

It's in and it is hauling a wheelchair just fine. Thank you for having one for my Crosstrek.

by:

Sturdy well constructed, albeit "fun" to install on our Crosstrek, as likely would be installation of any other brand. That's the nature of doing almost any repair or install on very recent model auto.

by:

Very easy to install. Installation video was a great help. Looks good on the car.

by:

Outstanding product! Install instructions/video are very well done. My installer was very impressed with the design and look of the trailer hitch on our 21 Subaru Crosstrex. Well worth the investment!

by:

Fast shipping. Easy instructions for installation. I installed by myself. The most challenging part was maneuvering the hitch into position to bolt it on but is very doable with a little finesse and muscle. I highly recommend ETRAILER!

by:

Great Low profile hitch! This is a way better option than the Subaru brand for the buck. I am truly satisfied with this hitch very easy to install, took my wife & I maybe 15/20 minutes to install it. I didn’t install an electrical harness as I only need/want it for my bike rack. This is the second hitch receiver I purchase from etrailer.com and both times I’ve been pretty satisfied.

Package arrived in two days. Just opened and installed the hitch! Went very smoothly. I watched the specific YouTube video and all went as expected. The spring fish wire was so cool. Thank you,

by:

The install is not easy but the fit is perfect, did not need the spacers so we had to take it off and reinstall it, but the clearances are good and final result is great.

Installed within 30 minute easily on a 2025 crosstrek. Using a strap on the trunk latch, I was able to do it by myself. Holds a bike rack solid.

It does rest very close to muffler pipe, but didn’t touch.

Hey Eric. Looks like you headed off to a good place to bike at!

by:

Watched installation video coupe of times. Somewhat easy to install with 2 people. Takes a little maneuvering to position the hitch.

by:

This is my third (and final) purchase from etrailer.
Each time, the bolts needed to be longer. For this hitch, I decided to call customer service and ask for longer bolts (the spacer included means two bolts are not long enough).
I was told the bolts are long enough and they will not include them. I was told I was free to purchase elsewhere if I did not like the pieces included in the kit.
I was originally an unhappy customer so I called customer service.
The service I got on the phone means I will never spend another dime on this company.

by:

This is my second etrailer hitch install. The hitch and hardware are excellent. I would recommend etrailer for quality and ease of installation.

The hitch finish and exposed hardware are still looking great after a hard north east Ohio winter.

Here are some pictures of the damage from being rear ended at over 65 mph. It might interest your crew to know the back of the Wilderness ended up on top of her toyota before it finally stopped and flung our Subaru off. She essentially hit the ball and it literally cut her car in half in the front. No major injuries on either side. Thanks to the durability if the hitch this is truly worthy if the old saying "ya ought to see the other guy".
Will be ordering hitch this week for my daughter in laws Crosstrek Wilderness, I feel it really helps protect the Subaru even more.

Holy cow!!! Glad to hear everyone is ok after that, James! Are they going to total your Subaru or repair it? Looks like the hitch and the muffler took the brunt of the damage.

Purchased a new 2025 Crosstrek that replaced a 13 year old Impreza that I had been putting my Mt bike inside the car to transport. I didn't want to mess up the new interior so I opted for a hitch mounted bike rake.

I went with eTrailer as product is American made, their website had hundreds of reviews for Crosstrek installations. The reviews convinced me that the product would fit my car and that I could perform the installation by myself. The reviews ended up saving me time and money.

The hitch is extremely well made and very solid. The fit is perfect. Only the receiver is visible and its color matches the bumper, and it's perfectly level and flush with the bumper.

Most challenging part was opening the two holes to insert hardware. Needed only a small hydraulic jack to get the hitch in place. The fishwires make alignment simple and easy; couldn't do the install without them. Complete install took about an hour.

Very satisfied with etrailer and the hitch.

by:

Very good quality, shipped quickly but sticking out of box upon arrival. Only minor paint rubs on portion that would be under vehicle. I had watched both the eTrailer and Curt installation videos before I attempted my install. It was convenient and cost effective that eTrailer sends along the required fish wire to pull hardware through the frame. I used step drill to enlarge front hole in frame per the eTrailer video whereas others had commented on grinding sideways slot across that hole. The Curt video said to use spacer shims between frame and hitch receiver at the front hole, while the eTrailer video did not show using them at all. On my vehicle, the frame has an overlapping extension near the front hole where you must use a putty knife to remove the chalk-like sealant applied at this joint. This overlap in the frame is almost 1/4” and using torpedo level I found the included spacer would be needed at the rear hole to keep the receiver and therefore the cargo carrier I will be using level. It was tricky fitting drill around exhaust to enlarge the front hole, but that was the most difficult part. The fish wire worked great to pull hardware through and then the spacer shim and through the receiver itself. I had a buddy help and we each maneuvered our half of the receiver around the exhaust and onto the bolts. We pulled if the fish wire and very gently threaded the nuts onto the bolts, making sure as to not push bolts into frame. We found putting pressure on bolt threads with a flat blade screwdriver facilitated threading the nuts easier. The whole process took less than 1/2 hour. The bottom of my receiver tube is only 10-1/2” from the ground (but level) and not the 15” I had seen in the video. So I needed to buy a 4” hi/low hitch adapter after the install to get my cargo carrier up far enough to not drag on ground going up or down inclines. I bought the eTrailer version to keep the attractive black matte paint all matching and complimenting my vehicle’s plastic trim.

by:

Really good install directions/video, except my 2024 crosstrek sport did not need to leveling shims at the front end. Use a long wobble socket extension to tighten and torque, rather than try to do it up close. Arrived with one corner poking out of the shipping box, but otherwise undamaged. A vastly more affordable option than thru a dealership!

I like that I didn't need to disassemble the rear of the car to install this (I'm looking at you volvo & audi)!

I'd say that's definitely a plus for this hitch above others! How long did the install take you?

by:

pleased with delivery time and condition of the hitch. Installation videos had me prepared for the install. A second set of hands is highly recommended for final step of getting the hitch in place and aligned.
For the sake of others, PLEASE provide slightly longer bolts for the forward mounts! It was quite challenging getting the nut started without accidentally pushing the bolt up into the frame channel. Another 1/4" or 1/2" bolt length would have made the process a whole lot easier.

by:

Confirmed that this receiver fits the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid.

Can't beat the price and quality of etrailer hitches. Came with everything needed for installation and clear instructions. etrailer also has the best how-to videos. The hitch did arrive with minimal padding and the sharper parts had made holes in the box during shipping. Paint was scraped off down to bare metal in those spots. This was easily touched up with matte black spray paint/primer.

by:

Installed by myself and my father, was a little difficult to torque down the bolts on the final stage, but overall the hitch fits nicely, very sturdy, and I'll be installing a bike rack here soon.

  • Will I Need To Enlarge Holes To Install A Hitch On A 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited
Hello David, great question. So, there is a chance that you will have to enlarge the access holes for the both the etrailer # e98912 hitch and the EcoHitch # 306-X7365. Both hitches come with the same size spacers. The picture below will help illustrate. The hitch attaches using two bolts, and there are two existing holes in the frame rail for these bolts. There SHOULD be a 3rd larger hole a bit forward of the two holes. As long as this 3rd larger hole is present, you will be able to...
