Comparing Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch to Curt Hitch for 2022 Subaru Crosstrek

Question:
Looking for a hitch for my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. What differentiates the Trailer Mate TMT94FR hitch from the more expensive Curt C13382? I understand the weight capacities are different, but is that due to material gauge thickness differences, or finish differences? Im really looking for a lightweight hitch, and the extra capacity of the C13382 is above and beyond what my vehicle is rated for, so seems like a waste unless theres a quality reason. Any advice is appreciated!

Hey Josh, great question! The Trailer Mate # TMT94FR is a value brand from Curt. They use less steel in the construction of the hitch which is why it has the lower capacity. They also removed the collar on the receiver tube.
I prefer the matte black, just like our etrailer # e98912, so that is really an added bonus. If you don't need the capacity of the Curt # C13382 and want to save some money this is a great option. It is still backed by a limited lifetime warranty so there isn't really a reduction in quality, just a reduction in the capacity.
What do you plan on using the hitch for?

Thanks Robin. I plan to use the hitch for both racks and a lightweight trailer.
