Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 12" Brake Assemblies

Today we're going to take a look at the mounting bolts and the hardware for 12 inch brake assemblies. Now this hardware will allow you to install two trailer brake assemblies to the five bolt brake mounting flange on your trailer axle. This hardware is designed to fit 12 inch brake assemblies that do not have the pre-installed mounting bolts. It will work with either electric or hydraulic brakes. It includes everything laid out here on the table. It includes 10 of the one and a quarter inch long by three eighths inch diameter mounting bolts. and the head size on that is a nine sixteenth. Heres a nine sixteenth socket, you can see it fits perfectly.

Also comes with 10 of the three eighths inch by 24 size nuts, and they are the same size, nine sixteenth, and also the 10 lock washers. But that should do it for the review on the mounting bolts and the hardware for 12 inch brake assemblies.

I needed to upgrade my boat trailer from free-wheeling spindles to electric brakes because my new tow vehicle has a 5,000 pound tow rating only if the trailer has brakes. I chose the Dacromet coated brakes assemblies, this mounting bolt kit and the galvanized hub and drum kit. This mounting bolt kit seems to be excellent quality hardware that fit perfectly. I torqued to 35 lb-ft.

After one year these bolts are tight and free of any rust or corrosion.

by:

Function, Fit and finish are all absolutely perfect. I just got everything reinstalled to include hubs, actuator and brake lines.

by:

Great fit and quality for my 38 year old trailer I built with my Grandfather from the ground up.

by:

Glad I purchased these when installing the new brakes, old nuts and bolts were corroded made the installation easier and added assurance of new hardware

I purchased these brake assemblies to replace the old electric brakes on one axle of my 1963 vintage twin axle trailer. Best thing I ever did. The electric brakes were relatively simple to install and have been working extremely well. These new brake assembles have logged more than 8,000 since they were installed and have worked well with the brake controller and break-away cable system I also installed. I am very happy with this product.

by:

I ordered 4 non-self adjusting brake sets and recieved 2 self adjusting right sides and 2 non-self adjusting left sides. I needed the project to be complete and I installed them. When i tok the out of the boxs, there was some rebuilding as things were out of alignment from shipping. Initial adjustments on both sets was a little more time consuming because of the lack of large adjustments, but once set they are great. The electrical hook ups were easy. They stop my 5000+lb camp trailer just fine. Finally, hardware being purchased separately is annoying. They should be packaged together and the hardware should be free with purchase of the brake sets.

by:

When you replace everything from the axle spindle out, why would you not replace the brake assembly mounting plate bolts? The quality was good and we felt confident that the correct grade of bolt was used. Price was minimal when compared with the possibility of bolt failure if the old bolts or hardware/farm store bolts were used.

by:

Just one of the many satisfied customers with the company etrailer. I have used this on line site to refurbish my used boat trailers over the last 10 + years. During this pandemic I sort of let my trailer sit around and just wait until the end is near to react and make the trailer road worthy. After 3 years in out of salt water (mostly in) you might get this. After acquiring new brakes and drums from etrailer it’s back to the salt water again. Thanks for the essential workers at etrailer George, Savanna, and Carol. Cheers

Nice job "e-Trailer"; received this "heavy" order very promptly; did not expect it so quickly in view of how other retailers/ manufacturers/ on-line businesses are behind in fulfilling orders. Packages (3) came all intact, well packed and product received in great condition. The order included:
> 5-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Hook End for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles (2)
> U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 8,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles - 8" Long U-Bolts (2)
> Tandem-Axle Trailer Equalizer Kit for 2" Slipper Springs - 10-1/8" Long Equalizers (2)
> Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 6K (2)
> Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 12" Brake Assemblies (2)
> Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 2441SS - Stainless Steel (Pair) (2)
> Bearing Kit, 15123/25580 Bearings, GS-2125DL Seal (4)
> Optronics LED Combination Trailer Tail Lights - Submersible - 40 Diodes - Driver and Passenger Side.
These items are being utilized in the total suspension replacement of a 10,000 gvwr tandem axle trailer. Good sized job for a DIY'er. I expect that it will give my JD 2038 tractor a smooth and safe ride as it is towed/ hauled down the highway.
Thank you.
I would/will strongly recommend to a friend/relative or associate.
( I'd take a picture of the "project", but there is a vicious rain storm occurring outside; perhaps one or two pics to follow at a later time).

Brakes are on and looking/ working great. A much improved self adjust system than was the OEM brakes.
I could see the quality right off. Now no worries for another ten thousand miles. Thanks for your help etrailer

Still going strong....

by:

I rebuilt an old boat trailer that has been sitting outside for 10 years. It was in really bad shape & I could not read any of the bearing numbers, all had had was the dimension of the hub & the old bearings. Stacey A. at etrailer was very helpful in getting the right parts I needed & best of all when I got my parts they all fit. The brake kit was great just bolt them on. Very quick shipping & great service.

Thanks

by:

I was initially concerned about finding the right parts as the trailer was fairly old. etrailer had just what I needed. The website is so elegant. I was able to find the right parts quickly and with comparative options to make a final selection. The how-to videos are great. This made installation a little more comfortable. Especially when you do not perform this type of work every day. The parts were of high quality and are working as expected. I highly recommend etrailer for any of your trailer needs.

by:

Awesome company and I just keep coming back to them for more

by:

Hardware was OK but I reused my original hardware because it was in good condition and I prefer the captive star washer nut to the separate nut and split washer.

by:

In my opinion, lock nuts would be better. That is why I give only four stars. Regardless, the bolts, washer, and nuts were in new condition and none were missing. No threading problems or torque problems.

by:

Worked as they should.

by:

I have not had time to install yet but the brakes arrived a day early and I appreciate that.

by:

If a new RV isn't going to have disk brakes, then they should all come with these. Pretty straight forward replacement. I didn't get new drums, just had the old ones turned.

by:

Excellent quality fasteners for the price. Bought thsesin case I needed to replace the entire brake assembly on my car hauler trailer. Did not have to replace them but will keep these for other projects that may com along. Will definitely order from etrailer when I need other items.

by:

I received some great advice and help from Leeza in selecting the correct product for my needs. Without serial numbers or identifiable model numbers on my existing trailer parts, she was able to determine the correct parts for my particular trailer needs (on a 25 year old trailer.whose manufacturer is no longer in business).
I received the parts in the time span indicated upon ordering, and they fit perfectly.
A good experience all around.

by:

Turned out that my axles had studs and not bolts. I did replace the nuts and washers though. I figured it was better safe than sorry to order new hardware.

by:

Recommend when installing new backing plates. Money well spent. Not much more to say about nuts bolts and washers. Direct fit and full set.

by:

If you replace the brake assemblies it is always easier to use new hardware. Better than cleaning the old rusty ones, and safer.

  • Replacement Electric Brakes for Dexter PR-FF SEC-FF 5.2KPR-GGSEC-GG 12X2XQ 36-89
Based on the photo and information you provided, I can tell you have 12 x 2 inch Dexter brake assemblies for 5.2K axles, for which the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA will be an excellent replacement. These are self-adjusting brakes so they do not require periodic manual adjustment like standard brakes. To replace the original brake mounting bolts, nuts and lockwashers, you can use # BRKH12.

  • How Can I Identify an Axle Without a Sticker?
Thank you for the pictures! It looks like you've got some sort of square drop axle on your trailer and if you can't find an identifying sticker, I can still help you figure out what you've got so that you can make the swap to electric brakes on your trailer. It looks like you've got 6 bolts on the wheels, which can help narrow down our search, but we'll need to know what size the brakes on the trailer are and if possible, what size (or number) the inner and outer bearings are on the hubs. • Replacement Brake Assemblies for AL-KO T-44 Axles
I have a solution for you, but the AL-KO T-44 axle has been discontinued since Dexter bought them out and there are no longer parts available for them, so you would need to completely replace the axles in order to replace the brakes. To choose the correct replacement axle you will need to know the hub face to hub face measurement and spring seat center to spring seat center measurements of your current axle; you'll also want to try to match your existing bolt pattern with the hubs in...

If you don't have the brake flange compatible, you can use the Brake Mounting Flange for 3" Round Axle # 4-44-1 which needs to be precisely welded in place. Then for your drum brake assemblies to match, I need some more information. I will need either the...

I can tell you exactly how to find compatible drum brake assemblies, though I took a look and could not find any type of reference to Dico 40511. To determine the brake assemblies that will fit your 2002 Escort boat trailer, you need to know your axle's weight capacity, your mounting flange bolt pattern and the inside diameter and depth of your drum. For example, Hydraulic Brake Kit # AKFBBRK-35-D are rated for 3,500 lb axles, have a 4-bolt mounting flange pattern and measure 10" diameter...

The attachment bolts for a 5-bolt brake assembly should be torqued to 30-50 foot/lbs. This will ensure your brake assembly # AKEBRK-7-SA is secured correctly. If you don't have a torque wrench, I recommend the Powerbuilt Dual Drive Torque Wrench - 3/8" and 1/2" - 10 to 150 ft-lb # ALL944001.

Hey Paul, thanks for dropping by! I actually spoke with Dexter and they let me know that you have a 3,500 lb axle with a 93" hub face and 80" spring seat measurement so you could use the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles # 8327864. The only issue I'm running into is that there are no hubs with a 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern that fit this axle. The etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-6 are compatible with this hub and drum assembly. However, I recommend getting the # AKEBRK-7-SA instead.
