Will etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes Work As Replacement For Dexter 023-105-00

Updated 07/22/2026 | Published 07/15/2026

Question:

Hello I am needing to replace the brakes on my RV and am wondering if the AKEBRK-6 would be a good replacement for the 023-105-00 that I have on the RV now? The dimensions look the same and the appearance looks the same. Just wanted your input before I pull the trigger. Also, are the Timken bearing seals better quality than the Dexter or eTrailer branded units? Ive had issues twice using the EZ lube axels with the Dexter seals even when getting the wheel off the ground and spinning. Thank you!

Hey James! Yes, the etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-6 will work well as a replacement for your current Dexter # 23-105-106 brakes. They have the same capacity, fit a 5-bolt brake flange, and will work with your existing hub and drum assembly. If you need replacement mounting hardware # BRKH12 is also available.

Timken seals are going to be a higher quality compared to our generic seals and Dexter. Are you saying you were adding grease with the wheel off the ground and spinning it? The other grease seal brands typically don't have any issues, so that grease may be pumping a little too fast even though you're following the proper procedure for the EZ lube axle.

What kind of trailer are you working on?

@JamesP not a problem, we were a little behind as well! Once you get the new brakes installed, your 2017 Keystone Sprinter 29BH will be ready for many more miles.
