Features to know about

Master Challenging Wiring Situations: Non-Standard Color Coding

Dealing with trailer wiring can be a headache, especially when the color coding doesn't match the standard. The 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 6’ Long, from Hopkins, tackles this problem head-on with a wiring code that includes 14-gauge for red, brown, green, and yellow wires; 12-gauge for blue wire; and 10-gauge for black and white wires. Designed to ensure superior function and safety, this connector gives you confidence by providing a thorough wiring scheme for electric brakes and lights without color-code hassle.

Reliability in Bad Weather: Durable Molded Construction

Weather elements shouldn't stop you from hitting the road with your trailer. This connector boasts a molded construction that provides robust protection against the elements. Thick cable sheathing ensures excellent insulation and longevity, allowing you to focus on your journey, regardless of rain or shine, without worrying about exposure and deterioration.

The Go-To Choice for Versatile Connection: 7-Way Blade Configuration

This connector’s 7-way blade design makes it highly versatile, serving multiple trailer types and configurations with ease. Whether you're looking to connect a trailer with electric brakes, tail lights, or running lights, this connector seamlessly adapts to the job, enhancing truck compatibility and providing a smooth towing experience every time.

Freedom from Splice and Tape Hassles: Integrated Plug and Lead Design

Tired of splicing and taping during trailer wire installations? The integrated plug and lead structure helps eliminate the mess associated with DIY wire connections. It simplifies installations, delivering a cleaner, more reliable connection without loose ends. Just plug it, lead it, and forget about frequent adjustments or unexpected malfunctions.

Heavy-Duty Assurance: Multiple Wire Gauges

When it comes to trailer wiring, strength and capacity matter. This connector uses a combination of multiple wire gauges tailored for specific functions. It employs 14-gauge wires for general applications and 12 to 10-gauge wires for high-demand functions like 12V power and ground, ensuring your connection is up to the task, whether you're powering lights or controlling brakes, without disruptions.

Convenience Packaged with Versatility: Pre-Wired 6-Foot Length

This pre-wired 6-foot connector provides ample reach for most trailer setups, offering flexibility and ease whether you're replacing an existing wire or installing a new setup on a different trailer. With this feature, you can extend the reach and avoid pull-outs at curves and sharp turns.

I received a 5' cable, not a 6' one. Which really upsets me as it pretty much means I can not use the EZ Connector Pogo Trailer Cable Holder I also purchased to hold the cable up out of the way of the pivoting hitch. Other then that, the connector is molded on, so that is good.

Hey Bill, are you also measuring the molded plug? Hopkins includes the molded plug in their measurements on these wiring connectors. If you are measuring from the end of the molded plug to the end of the wire covering, and still getting 5 feet, let me know. I can get you the correct one sent out.

Quick shipping delivered in one day.

by:

6 ft is the perfect length, and it never have connection issues when plugging in.

by:

The quality of the materials for this wire connector is very high, especially the insulation on the wires. One thing to note is the wire colors do not match the standard colors associated with this style of 7-Way plug. Definitely use a continuity tester to determine which wire goes to which blade in the plug. Other than that, this is a good product for the price.

by:

Sealed unit at connector. No possible c orrosion.

WORK GREAT

by:

The color coded wires did not match the standard for which went where. I first assumed it matched and installed accordingly. Only ground (white) and electric break control (blue) were correct. Brown, yellow, and green were all wrong. I believe black and red were also switched, although those seem to be less standardized. Then I checked it for continuity with multimeter and reconnected, crossing colors as necessary. Also, outside sheathing immediately separated from molded plug during first use. This appears to be very nice, heavy construction, but in reality it is a big disappointment.

There are two different accepted wire color code conventions for a 7-way trailer connector, which is why we provide a chart see above showing the wire color codes applicable for this trailer connector.

by:

though I'm disappointed with the shipping choice with USPS. etrailer was easy to deal with throughout locating this package. I will order products from your company in the future and choose a better shipping method. Thanks for all your help in this matter.

by:

I bought the wrong item the first time. I placed the order for the correct item and it came a day early! Return shipping was very easy as well. This is my new trailer component company!

by:

Quality product at a reasonable price. Worked great- used a "weather pack" connector for a nice sealed connection to the rest of the trailer wiring. Just be sure to carefully check the wire colors (as many noted in the reviews)- they are not standard!

After a year, product is still like new- weather exposure hasnt caused any issues at all!

by:

Great service from Etrailer. PO said Saturday arrival - arrived Thursday! Wish it came with a color code instruction but I’ll replace one wire at a time, color for color. Should be easy enough.

by:

Very nice quality product. It's nice to have a molded plug, and this fits the bill nicely. Length is adequate as well. Couple this with one of the trailer junction boxes (another excellent product) and you'll have a clean and professional installation.

All good. Havent used the trailer much tho.

by:

The color coding of the wiring in relation to their position was all incorrect to what is recognized as standard. Since the plug is molded there is no way to switch positions of the wires. I had to use a continuity tester to determine what was what. The trailer brake circuit was the only one that was correct

There is more than one accepted color coding for a 7-way trailer connector, which is why we list the color code on the product description that shows which function each wire color carries. Heres a link to our Trailer Wiring help article that you might find helpful.

by:

Products were all as described and good quality. The only problem was packaging. The insulation on the wires on one of the brake assemblies was cut requiring splicing. Not a big deal but did require additional time and effort since they were cut where going through back plate. Wish I had purchased two conductor brake wire. Would have made job easier. But that was my mistake.

No problems, everything working as it should.

Used this product to extend the trailer's factory cable due to the new tow vehicle's receptacle was farther from the camper tongue. After one year, it is still working well.
All wire colors were correct.

Received it and open the package and found it well packed and the product looks well constructed and durable. I would order from here again.

The parts arrived and ready for me to replace the plug and wiring on my horse trailer. It’s a big help to get items ready to install.

by:

I felt the product was good, but the cord was not long enough. When I ordered it, the one I wanted had a longer cord, but was not available. I was in a bind so I took the shorter one. It works great, but it is not long enough for my needs. If I have to turn the trailer sharp the cord will pop out of the plug, due to the shortness of the cord. Good product.

My drum brakes locked up on me because it is a boat trailer and gets submerged in water. I hate drum brakes, due how many part are inside and can rust up. I am the 3rd owner of my 1998 boat trailer and it was hard to figure out what I needed to fix it. I contacted etrailer and they were super helpful, super informative and super easy to work with. I told them what I had, and what I wanted to do., and they put a package together for me and that was them. Everything was super east to install because it is all bolt on. I did have to do some cutting and grinding on my old tongue because the master was welded on. That was the only difficult part. My new setup is amazing and the disk brakes and new master make it feel like my boat is not even there. All in all, I am 110% satisfied and will definitely be a returning customer for any trailer needs. Thank you etrailer for making everything super easy.

  • Can I Add Electric Brakes To A 1993 EZ Loader Boat Trailer
Hello Mike. It sounds like you are wanting to add electric brakes to your boat trailer that currently has no brakes. This is possible, but you will first need to make sure that your axle is equipped with a brake flange at the base of the spindle. The brake flange is necessary for adding brakes. If you do have a brake flange, you will next need to determine your bearing sizes. Electric brakes will require new hubs and drum assemblies, and we need to be sure that there is a drum available...

The yellow wire of the 7-way harness part # H20044 that you referenced goes to the center pin of the 7-way which is an aux circuit that is typically used for reverse lights if present on the trailer. Normally the red wire on a 7-way (RV standard colors) is for the left turn circuit so if you have a red wire I'd not think this would be the correct wire to connect the yellow if the 7-way to.
