Specs:

  • Maximum amperage:
    • Stop/turn lights: 2.1 amps per circuit
    • Tail lights: 7.5 amps per circuit
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located on the driver's side and passenger's side, either behind the tail lights or along the frame rail. If your wiring harness is behind the tail lights, you will have to remove the tail light assemblies to gain access.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 118496 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number 118496. This is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness from Tow Ready. This is going to provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. To see if this is going to fit your particular year, make and model, you can refer to the vehicle list at the bottom of the product page. This is going to be compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters that are sold separately. The 4-way flat connector also has a nice dust cap that slips over the connection points. Just to keep them protected from the elements.

It is attached so you dont have to worry about losing that. A great advantage of this system is that it connects quickly and easily so no cutting or splicing of wires required. All you got to do is locate the connection point either behind the tail lights or along frame rail and plug in T-connectors. It's going to include the tail light converter that's going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailers. The unit's constructed of 16-gauge bonded wire. It's going to comes with the dust cap for the 4-way flat like I said earlier.

Again, that is attached. When it comes to maximum amperage, the stop and turn lights are going to be 2.1 amps per circuit. Your tail lights are going to be 7.5 amps per circuit. Just to go over a few other things that you're going to get. You're going to get the complete harness, its got the ground wire attached with the ring terminal. You're going to get a larger zip tie, two smaller zip ties, a self tapping screw and a knot. The knot and the self tapping screw are design to secure the ring terminal for the ground connection depending on your application.

You're going to have to either drill into a nice clean metal surface or you can use the knot and attach it to a pre-existing ground connections. Again, you got the knot and the self tapping screw. You're going to use one or the other depending on your application. For the install, this is a custom-fit T-One connectors going to plug into your vehicle's wiring harness. It is going to be located on the driver's side and passenger's side, either behind the tail lights or along the frame rail. If your wiring harness is behind the tail lights, you will have to remove the tail light assemblies to gain access. Once you have everything connected and the installation is complete.

The 4-way flat connector can be stored beneath the vehicles rear, down by the hitch. We do recommend a mounting bracket that's going to be sold separately. That's just going to keep the connector secure and up out of the way. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections like the plugs on your vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself. That's going to help prevent corrosion. Then the tail light converter, because most trailers run on a two-wire system, the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicles through our systems need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your vehicle so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's lights. Keep in mind that this will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate. I think that's going to do it for our review of part number 118496. This is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness from Tow Ready. .

2014 Tocoma..The wiring install, went slower the the hitch install. the main reason was the taping of the wires to the truck wiring and getting up and down. (time was 50 minutes) Install the driver side first, only the plug is placed with the tail light, install the passenger next, only the plug is placed with the tail light. Tape the new wiring to the stock wiring, start with the tail lights and work down you will find you have just the right length of wire. I taped the 2x2 black connector to the wiring harness. If the wires were 6 inch's longer on both sides, I would have used the two sided tape and stuck the connector on the frame 111973

I have used the the trailer connection on 5 different days for about 1 hour each time, two weeks ago I had to used the trailer to help move a friend of ours and it was raining so the lights was on all the time. the trip was 12 hours, there and 7 days of short trips and on the way home about six hours in to the return trip i stopped for fuel and when I started the truck I lost the tail lights and the brake lights, blown fuses. I stopped at a auto parts store and picked up some new fuses, when i turned on the lights the new tail light fuses popped and when I stepped on the brakes, the new brake lamps fuses popped. We stopped for the night, I will not drive a truck and a trailer at night without lights. The next day, and a hundred lighter, I got home, I disconnected the trailer and replaced the fuses. The fuses stilled popped. I opened the tail lights and disconnected the left tail light trailer connection and the fuse sill popped, and i disconnected the right tail light trailer connection and the fuses held. I will pull out the bad harness and replace it with a factory tow harness more money and more time to install but I no more problems and I will order a trailer brake to plug in to the stock wiring.

Installed on a 2011 Tacoma (pre-runner model)Doesn't get any better than plug and play! way less effort and problems over time to use a plug and play harness over the conventional crimp or strip and wire together solutions. Saves time and labor. My only complaint is the web site and the instructions need to be updated because this kit shows fitting up to a 2010 Tacoma. I assumed the factory harnesses were the same from Toyota but it creates doubt when your kit shows up to 2010 everywhere and it's now 2013. My guess and the search link at etrailer were correct and it will also fit newer Tacoma's even though nothing beyond that search request showed newer than 2010. About 30 minutes including figuring out how the clips on the Tacoma tail lights work to remove them safely and checking them after the install.Only tool required is a 10mm socket and perhaps an extra zip tie or two if you choose. I didn't bother using the wire covering that some purchased seperately and used. It's a small piece of wiring for trailer lights not the main fuse panel so I didn't overkill the install but you can if you prefer. Customer service, communication, shipping from etrailer was first rate and no complaints. 77843

Installed on a 1997 Toyota T-100. It took about 30 minutes. Everything was easy to install. It took a few minutes to get the truck plugs pulled apart (probably hadn't been pulled apart before). The plugs on this harness plugged right in with an audible click. I used the included cable ties as well as a few of my own to secure the wiring under the truck. Now all my trailer lights work, and I don't have to worry about any more splicing. I wasn't sure the passenger side wiring was long enough to reach across the truck, but it made the distance with a little room to spare. I decided on this product after spending most of a Saturday splicing and checking connections. I was trying to find out why I didn't have right signal or brake on my trailer. Truck's lights worked fine, but the trailer's lights didn't. I even checked the trailer while connected to a friend's truck, so I knew the problem was on the truck's end. I put all of the original truck wiring back in place, checked all the lights on the truck, installed this product, hooked up the trailer, checked the trailer lights, and now everything works. Thanks e-trailer. 63899

The wiring system was pretty straight forward. The video pretty much said all I needed to know. I'd rather use this set-up than any guy at a hitch shop doing a quick splice to the wiring in my truck, any day. The only thing I did differently from the video was put my wiring in the black conduit that you can buy pretty cheap at any auto parts place. This change will keep the wires from chaffing and makes the whole job look more professional. 29655

I have a 2015 Tacoma and installed this in about 30 minutes, requires the simple removal of the tail lights and plugs snap in line, no cutting or splicing. Hint: once the tail light bolts are taken out the tail light pop out by pulling straight back on them. 172990

Ordering was easy, your web site was simple to maneuver in. I was notified the order was received and that it was being shipped early. I was skeptical as I found it on the net. Did not know your company and could not believe the rapid service. I ordered a lighting kit and trailer hitch for my Tacoma pick up. It arrived today in 5 days from the order date. I unpacked it to find it was very well made, I read the directions and 90 minutes later it was on the truck. The lighting took 30 minutes, well made I will recommend to my friends. It is perfect, exactly what I wanted. The construction and directions were "right on" everything fit perfectly. I am very pleased and would hot be afraid to order anything you sell. Thank you for my hitch. It was a pleasure doing business with you. Peter R 26603

I ordered this on Tue. and It was delivered on Fri. Installed in 30 min. and I took my time. Great product and etrailer had great communications. Toyota wanted $100 for the factory wire harness and over $100 to install. I intalled this myself and it was less that $50. 66484

Trailer Hitch Wiring Harness 2010 Tacoma I found this harness easy to install on my 2010 Toyota Tacoma. The directions were easy to follow with pictures to reference. It took me about an hour and a half to install complete with zip ties to make sure all was neat and tidy with the wiring. The hardest part was getting the taillight assembly out of the truck. Once the bolts are out, you have to use some force to pull the assembly back off the guide pins. I would recommend this harness to anyone looking to put in a hitch or in my case a LED light bar for stop, running and turn signal lights. The folks at etrailer were super fast in getting the harness to me. I would do business with them again would recommend them to my friends. Thanks for a great product and fast service! I had received multiple quotes to install a hitch on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma. All were around $400. So I did a little research and found the etrailer.com site. I found I could buy the hitch, the wiring harness and ball myself for less. The installation video they provided me gave me the confidence I could do the install myself. Now it's on and the entire process couldn't have been easier. If you can use a socket wrench and screw driver you can install your own hitch. Piece of cake! 391017

good fit on the connectors on the rear of the taillights, I followed the instructions starting on the driver side. routed the wires down and to the hitch following the existing wires... bad plan! seems like 44$ was not enough to provide 12" more of wire because the passenger side wires were short! after zip tying at 10 locations along the stock wire path (you would think Toyota would use the best route?) I had to cut the ties and route the wire in the bed sheet metal channel to make them long enough. WOW I would have gladly paid $2 more to have some extra wire to chose my route better. product did perform as advertised. give me some more wire and earn a better rating. 125681

It's always nice to deal with a retailer either online or brick/mortar that knows what they are doing. As a normal thing I am Larry about internet companies I've never dealt with. I search them and look for comments not on their own website. etrailer is definitely an anomaly with respect to a line retailers. They stock good products and explain those products. They charge a fair price and ship right away. The Tekonsha wiring harness I bought is great quality and is simple to install. Even an automotive novice could install this harness using etrailer instructions. I certainly recommend them again and use them again. 430326

Best value no-mod 2009 Kit It works fine on a 2009 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 Longbed. The LED drivers are sealed inside, so they still take the standard 12v input. It even works without drilling as is shown in the video. There are grounding bolts on the body behind the light housing that allow grounding with the included nut instead of the self-tapping screw shown in the video. Acetone was used on the grounding bolt as well as the sticky tape mounting surface. A small amount of grease was used on the grounding terminal to prevent corrosion. Skip the dealership - ten minutes and a 10mm socket is all it takes. 2639

Everything you guys promised I received and the shipping was incredibly fast. I did have a little problem with the location of the hardware for the hitch. I just wasn't thinking to look in the hitch itself and was looking in the box for a bag or a smaller box, but I found it quickly enough. Everything else was just as it should be. Bolt holes lined up. The wire harness worked like a dream. Thanks so much for the awesome installation videos. They really gave me the confidence to make this purchase knowing that I would be able to install this myself and save a lot of money by doing it. 331395

Customer Service is impeccable, priced right and very easy to install. The similar part which was aaftermarket from Toyota had directions to install up front of truck in the area of the fuse box and then routing the wiring underneath to the rear section- impossible to understand, plus Toyota wanted $125 for the part! This was a great father / son project for my Dad and I to install on my 2012 Tacoma. I can't say enough positive things about etrailer.com, this is a quality product, priced right and easy to install. Thank you etrailer for the service you provide! 40103

I gave you a 5 star even though UPS tried to mess up your excellant delivery time. they sent it to the wrong PO so instead of getting it 3/17 it came on 3/20. it attached easily per instruction and video. the only improvement I made was to encase all the wiring in flexible conduit. when finished everything tested perfect. thank you very much. 413384

The light kit came in the same box as the hitch so it arrived in perfect condition and only 4 work days after I placed my order. I've done a lot of hitches in my time and even more wiring but this is the simplest I have ever done! Installation actually took less than 15 minutes, a couple of bolts on each side to remove the lens, unplug the harness and plug it into the new wiring and the new wiring into the old housing, route it out to the hitch and use the supplied zip ties to keep in place - Done! Life made fast AND simple! 75527

I own a 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I bought this harness so I could tow my Harbor Freight trailer and do a direct plug in. The harness works great and is easy to install. Just be aware if you bought a Harbor Freight trailer there are issues getting the lights to work correctly on the trailer and not the Etrailer harness. I did get my lights to work on my Harbor Freight trailer but not without some head scratching and using Google. One more thing, buy Etrailer's bracket for the 4 pin plug, such a clean set up. 367094

I ordered T-One wiring harness for my '96 Toyota T-100 late in the day and got an order confirmation immediatley and then got an e-mail saying it was shipped that day. I got it two days later and installed on truck. Easy to install even on a 17 year old pickup that had never had the connectors apart. Thirty minutes or less is all it took. Had to find my tools that my son borrowed. My son recommended this company from reviews he had from DFWStangs.net forum members. Thanks guys. 82142

My harness was exactly what I was told it was. All I had to do was plug it in and was done in less than ten minutes. Took longer to get the bolts out of my lights. My old wiring harness had quit working and I went to the Toyota place but the wanted 100 bucks for a harness and I would have to take the fuse box out of the dash in order to put it in. With etrailer the saved me hours worth of work and more than half the cost. Will definitely recommend this to anyone who needs one. 357268

Tacoma 4-wire flat harness went in EXACTLY as the instructions said. It's not so much the product, which was excellent, but the great installation video that was available on the eTrailer.com site that convinced me to buy it here. Etrailer.com has always impressed me with the quality, and equally as important, the service. Big or small, every order ever made through etrailer.com has been handled with the same outstanding service and care. Thank you! 33680

After watching the on-line youtube video I decided to purchase a wiring harness. It took me about 20 minutes to install when it arrived. Everything snapped together just like the instructions said and when I tested it, all the lights worked exactly like they were supposed to. I am extremely pleased with the quality, price, and simplicity of this product and would not hesitate to recommend this site to anyone in need of a trailer wiring harness. 85328

Easy install even though we worked on the ground. We did not remove the bumper just supported it. We removed the two top bolts that hold the hitch and installed the hitch with the four bolts, loosened the other three and installed the shims separately. Once all the bolts were started we tightened everything down. Great product and also easy install on the wiring harness. Took us around 90 minutes for everything. Thanks great products...Bert D. 251217

Installed on a 2006 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner. The old computer term "plug and play" would explain it. Watch the video if you don't know how the tail light covers come off. Simple to install. I took the extra step of covering the wiring with split loom and the wrapping that in electrical tape. That way there would never be a chance of wires rubbing against metal and causing a short over time. I used a few extra zip-ties too. 111959

Haven't had the opportunity to use the product, but I will say customer service will bring me back. I had a person that was available by name through the whole process. I hate having a generic email and number so you get a different person each time and have to explain the issue each time. Even though I haven't used the part yet, I know if I do have an issue who to go to. Thank you for such personal customer service. 60803

Nice quality, easy installation, took the time to add corregated sleeving insulation to protect the wiring (plan to keep the truck a long time). Adding the sleeving took a little longer but the installation looks like it came from the factory. I would recommend this product this system to others. The only thing I would have liked to add would be an optional mounting bracket for the trailer connection to bumper. 45387

Great product. Added trailer wiring harness without cutting any wires. The new wiring pretty much follows existing cables. Worked the first time I plugged it in. I was able to zip-tie an existing cable so that there should be no issues with any sharp edges cutting the new wires. Make sure you use a bright light under your truck to see where the existing wires go. It's hard to see the existing black cables. 61056

Quick and easy connection on my 2008 Toyota Tacoma. Just pop off the tail light assemblies, run the wires underneath the bed, connect the wiring harnesses, reconnect the tail lights and you are ready to go. At the most, it's a 20 minute job. For best results, use some electrical contact grease (p/n 11755) on all of the connections to ensure a smooth, water resistant connection and to avoid corrosion. 22995

I ordered this item to replace one I got 5 years ago that started to work erratically (most probably after several years of launching my boat in saltwater without disconnecting the plug!). It is a very easy installation and "like-factory" fit. I did notice that the main circuit box is smaller than the one I'm replacing so for me is a plus since it will be easier to hide behind the light fixture. 104256

The harness is easy to install following the enclosed directions and results in a nicely finished installation. Although more costly than bargain basement wiring harnesses, using a custom designed wiring harness eliminates the need to cut and splice wiring and makes for a lot cleaner and easier installation. Harness Fit well: the Black and Yellow wires go on the drivers side and the green wire goes to passenger side it tells in the instructions. You need to purchase some black wire mold and black tie wraps to make it look factory. when you take out tail lights pull light assembly straight out. then you can access the plug. great service, wiring harness is a great product. thanks etrailer 374571

This product was nicely engineered to be fast and simple to install. The instructions were right on with how to get to the lights and the underside of the bed/bumper area. Don't drop the light when you unclip the wiring to each side tail lights and use the zip ties to keep those wires from dangling later. For the most part it was piece of cake, you do need a few tools.... Steve 450262

Had a hard time finding the right wiring harness kit to hook up trailer lights on my new Tacoma. Found your web site, you had exactly what I needed, so I placed my order. It was shipped to me in just a couple of days, and I am ready to rock and roll. There was even an instructional video showing how to connect everything on my specific truck. I highly recommend these folks! 235048

I just purchased a 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 and installed the Curt hitch receiver purchased from etrailer. Great product and videos made it a snap to install. I also ordered the T-One wiring harness and this was a piece of cake to install and works great. I think I saved over $220 in parts and labor compared to similar items at the trailer companies in our area. 161156

This product was exactly what I was looking for. The online tutorial was helpful in assisting me in making my decision; demonstrating how simple and straightforward installation would be. Having the flat plug mount available was an added bonus and will insure that the plug is not damaged once it has been installed. I am very excited about installing this kit. 269154

Just received my hitch receiver, harness and lock pin and am amazed that all my items made it intact. The box it was shipped in sure didn't. Great job packing some tough items! I will install the receiver as soon as I can get the instructions which did not come with the item. Also, the link for the instructions on the web site does NOT work for my Mac. 366807

This is a very good quality wiring harness. Install was simple and, looking at the back of the truck, you will not even know it was there. The wires were plenty long enough for my Tacoma, and the connectors just snap in. I will probably rarely tow a trailer, but its nice to now have the ability when that is needed. etrailer.com is great to deal with. 46099

This fitted perfectly and was very easy to install. You don't have to cut any wires or splice anything together. You just remove the taillight assemblies, plug the adapter plugs into the back of the light plugs and also truck wiring loom plugs, and reinstall the light assemblies. It's worth the money of not having to cut and splice. Very simple! 10477

I ordered the items on Monday, and received them on that Wednesday afternoon. I had the trailer hitch and the wiring harness installed in about 2 hours. The hitch installation requires two persons, but goes easily. The wiring was as easy, but I made it more difficult by using loom to protect the wires. Probably took 30 minutes longer that way. 51938

I bought the trailer harnesses for two trucks, a Toyota Tacoma and a 2011 Nissan Frontier S. Shipping was quick and so was installation. They just plugged in to the truck's wire harness on the chassis and I was in buisness. No muss, no fuss, no cutting wires, no twisting wire nuts, no cussing or pulling hair. Just plug it in and trailer away. 29565

I bought this wiring kit for my 2012 Tacoma...it took about 90 minutes to install becouse the wiring is about 18 inches too short...after splicing in longer wires....product works good....toyota restyled these trucks for 2012....so the company needs to adjust the length of the wires leading to the passenger side....otherwise easy to install 36795

I purchased this trailer light hookup for my 2008 toyota tacoma. It was so easy to install and works exactly as stated. There are no cutting and splicing wires and running into trouble with your lights not working. This is an excellent product and excellent service from etrailers. Just installed and my lights work on my trailer. yeah!!!! 42369

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • What is the Difference Between a 4-Way and 7-Way Trailer Connector
  • A 4-Way trailer connector has the basic lighting functions only; running lights, left turn signal and brake lights, right turn signal and brake lights, and ground. A 7-Way has these functions and a 12 volt circuit, a circuit for electric trailer brakes (requires a brake controller in the vehicle), and a reverse light or auxiliary power circuit. There are other types of connectors as well. I have included a link to our help article that shows and explains the various connector types.

  • Brake Controller Installlation- 2013 Toyota Tacoma
  • It is not difficult to determine if your Tacoma has the tow package wiring in place. If your Tacoma has the OEM 7-way trailer connector installed, the vehicle is indeed prewired for a brake controller. The # 3040-P wiring harness would plug into the connector located near the emergency brake pedal as shown in the photo I edited for you. Make sure the white ground wire with the ring terminal is grounded to bare metal under the dash. If you do NOT have the OEM 7-way, the plug for...

  • Towing Capacity of a 2013 Toyota Tacoma 4.0 Double Cab 4x4 with Factory Tow Package
  • I can help you out, no problem. What you are going to want to look at is the towing capacities of the truck. You need to know the gross combined weight rating. This is the most the vehicle, including cargo and occupants, plus the trailer can weigh. This information is usually in the owners manual or on a sticker in the door jamb. Looking at an online copy of the owners manual the 4 liter V6 model of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma with 4-wheel drive could have one of several capacities depending...

  • Options for Adding Interior Lighting to Enclosed Cargo Trailer
  • For your enclosed trailer application I have several suggestions for adding interior lighting that you can control directly via a switch. Since your current 4-pole trailer wiring does NOT include a 12V auxiliary power feed that could power inside lights separate from the trailer's exterior lights, I suggest adding a separate 12V battery to the trailer interior and installing one or more LED-type lights that are bright yet highly efficient. • It sounds like your 2014 Toyota Tacoma did not come with a factory tow package. What can happen sometimes is that on models that did not come with the factory tow package not all of the wiring or contacts will be present. You would either need to by all of the tow package parts or you would need to return the harness and install an aftermarket one designed for models without the factory tow package.
