Question:
This is a slide in pop up camper. It's a 2003 so it has a 6 pin female plug. The truck has the factory 7 pin connector. Im looking to be able to still have the trailer wiring for pulling a trailer if need be with the camper in the bed of the truck. I have seen some wiring kits for 5th/goosenecks that would connect off the 7 pin plug and run into the bed for a 7pin connector and then I can take the 7 pin and run and umbilical cord to the camper. I could also switch out the 6 pin female plus on the camper to a 7 pin. If my thinking is right what wiring would you recommend? Thanks

Let's start with the vehicle side. If you don't already have trailer connector on your 2008 Toyota Tacoma, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # 118496. Once you have the 4-way, you can install either a 6-way or a 7-way. Factory tow packages come with a 7-way, but you can install a 6-way and be set for your camper. The Brake Controller 6 and 4 Way Installation Kit, 10 Gauge, # ETBC6 will give you everything you need to convert your 4-way into a 6-way.
For a 7-way connection, I'd recommend The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat, # ETBC7. This Kit comes with all the connections, circuit breakers, and wiring needed to install an electric brake controller with a 7-way connector. I've attached a help article that will help with the differences and similarities between a 6-way round and a 7-way RV wiring system.
Now for the trailer side, if you'd like to install a 7-way connector to your trailer, I would recommend the Optronics 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector - Trailer Side, # A7WCB. This would be a permanent fix for your 2003 Sunlite Skyhawk Camper to work with your 2008 Toyota Tacoma without an adapter. I recommend this over an adapter if you will be using this trailer and truck combination regularly.
If you need a brake controller, I'd recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, # 90195. This brake controller has a simple to read color LCD screen that helps make the functions understandable and easy to read without deciphering codes. I am not sure you need this for your application, but it will make your 6-way or 7-way trailer wiring completely functional for other applications.
If you'd like to use an adapter, you can get the Hopkins Adapter 7-Pole to 6-Pole Universal, # 47549. This is a simple plug and play each time you connect your trailer to your truck.
