Recommended Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring Needed for 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Jason did a great job for my 4Runner. However the 4Runner has developed some problems, and I might be forced to sell it and buy a used Toyota Tacoma or possibly a used Tundra, 2000 to 2005. Will the same set up Jason came up with up work on those vehicles? Thank you.

For your 2000 Toyota 4Runner, I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 39510 with the Brake Control Plug-In Harness # 20127. This is the best controller under the price point you are seeking.

Then for your wiring, if you already have a 7-way connector you can use the kit # 5506. If you have a 4-way then you will use the # ETBC7 kit which comes with the 7-way adapter and wiring. If you don't have a 4-way, then you will need that first and I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118341 for that.

I'm sorry about your vehicle. A 2000 to 2005 Toyota Tacoma can absolutely still use the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 brake controller. You will need a 4-way trailer connector if you don't already have one using the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118379 compatible with 1996 thru 2004 models. For the 2005 model the # 118496 which connects behind the tail lights in the same way would need to be used instead. Then you will use the # ETBC7 to finish hardwiring your brake controller to your battery and 7-way adapter. If you get the newer 2005 model with a factory 7-way then there will be a wiring harness under the dash that will allow you simply to use the wiring harness # 3040-P for the brake controller installation. The 2004 and older model Tacomas will not have that feature.
