This light has an industry-standard PL-3 connection as pictured above. The light accepts a 3-prong plug (sold separately).
Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Today we're taking a look at the Peterson LED trailer tail light. This is a round trailer tail light that serves three functions, such as your turn signal light, tail light, and break light. Now, LEDs make great replacements for incandescent lights, they last longer, they burn brighter, they're more efficient. This one has a nice red lens with a black base. Again, LED system, multi-diode design, it has seven diodes, or seven LEDs. Also with LEDs, you don't have to worry about replacing bulbs, and you don't have to worry about brittle filaments.It is a recessed mount installation.
It has this nice, built-in mounting flange, mounting hardware not included. It's a three mount hole design, and it fits in a four and a half inch diameter hole. So if we place a ruler across here, you can see that it reads at four and a half inches, measuring from here to here. Also, on the flange, it has a stamp on it that says, hole size, 4.5 diameter. That let's us know this fits in a four and a half inch diameter hole.It accepts an industry standard three prong plug, which is sold separately and available at etrailer.com.
That's for your wiring. It's Department of Transportation compliant, it meets FMVSS-108 requirements for automotive lighting. It's made in the USA.A few measurements to go over with you real quick, starting with the overall diameter, then we'll hook it up to power. Overall diameter is five and a half inches. The lens itself is about four and one quarter inches in diameter.
The mount holes on center, going straight across from one another, they're separated on center, by four and one quarter inches. That's gonna be the same measurement for each one there. Four and one quarter on center.All right. We're gonna go and hook it up to power, that way you can see what it looks like with some power running to it. We'll also turn off overhead lights so you can see it in a low light setting.
This is the tail light function, it sends out a nice, clear, consistent signal. When we apply our breaks, you can see how that signal output increases. Does that same thing when we activate our turn signals.Now again, it has seven LEDs, or seven diodes, so that multi-diode design really helps optimize the overall light output. LEDs also have a much faster response time when compared to incandescent lights. And the rated input voltage for this unit is nine volt to 16 volt DC.That's gonna do it for today's look at the Peterson LED trailer tail light.
