Brake Controller Recommendation for 2019 Volkswagen Atlas with Factory 7-Way

Question:
I have a 2019 VW Atlas with the factory tow package. I installed a Pollak 11-893P receptacle which converts the factory harness to a standard 7-way plug. One of the connectors is labeled “brake controller” or something like it. So… Does my Atlas have a built in controller? If not, why wouldn’t they include it as part of a “package”? It kind of pissed me off that I had to buy the receptacle AND a tow bar/ball, as I believe that should’ve been included as part of the “tow package” as well but… Thanks,

Helpful Expert Reply:
Your 2019 Volkswagen Atlas has brake controller wiring but it does not currently have a brake controller installed in it. Rarely do vehicles have factory brake controllers and it's basically only trucks that do. Reason being lighter duty vehicles typically tow trailers without brakes so they aren't needed as often.
So you'd need a brake controller like the Brake EVN # TK63VR which works really well and is very reliable and the install harness part # TK22FR which is custom fit for your Atlas.
Or if you wanted to go with an even easier solution the Curt Echo part # C51180 would just plug into your 7-way and once synced to your smart phone would be ready to tow.
