Troubleshooting Dexter DX6.6 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator Not Fully Seating On Hitch Ball

I have a DX6.6 DEXTER SURGE ACTUATOR 6,600 lbs. Max. G.V.W.R 660 lbs. Max. Tongue Load 2 Ball 059-Z01-39 REV. B 2022.02 fitted with a -N-Go auto-latch coupler. When I put it on the ball the tongue doesnt grab under the ball like a typical trailer hitch hookup. Its pressing on the lower ball edge instead, not under the ball. It doesnt seem low enough but the safety pin fits in fine. Is this normal? If not, can you recommend a different latch? Thank you. Carol

Hey Carol! If it’s sitting on the edge of the ball it likely isn’t fully seated. Make sure you’re lowering it completely onto a 2" hitch ball with the jack. Once it’s down, try raising the jack to lift the rear of the vehicle slightly. If it’s properly latched, it will stay connected. If it won’t stay attached or still doesn’t wrap under the ball, it’s not coupled correctly and shouldn’t be towed.
When did you get your # DX79UR? If it less than a year old that kind of issue will fall under the warranty. If you end up having to replace it I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM72VR. Demco has the EZ-latch so it is the same kind of connection, just drop it onto the ball and you're ready to go.

We bought it August of 2024. It's on a Trailstar Custom SA Trailer for a Tracker Boat. What do you recommend without an EZ-Latch. I prefer to make sure it is manually latched. Thank you. Carol
