What Surge Brake Actuator do I Need for My A-60 with Drum Brakes in Fulton Fold Away Tongue?

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/10/2025

Question:

My surge went out and it’s a Fulton 2005 trailer with drum brakes. It also has a swing tounge. Im looking to purchase the DX27FR to replace my current actuator. Is there a way that I can adapt this to my current setup? I dont need to keep the folding capability if it saves me some money. Thanks

Hello Mike,

Thank you so much for supplying the picture. I was able to zoom in and confirm that you have an A-60.

The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Bolt On - Drum - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7,500 lbs # DX27FR is the correct one for you. You will want to remove the inner member from the # DX27FR so you can install it directly into your Fulton fold away tongue. Then you can use the outside bracket as a nice paper weight.

What kind of boat do you have sitting on that trailer, what kind of fish are you chasing, and what is your biggest catch?

I dabble in some small local bass fishing tournaments here in Missouri at the Lake of the Ozarks and Mark Twain Lake. I am still stuck on just a 5 1/2 pounder, I will get that double digit one day!

Hey Mike, Did you have a chance to install the Dexter brake actuator on your trailer? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, especially since it could help others with similar setups.
