Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
Unassembled and Unprimed
Because welding can cause damage to the internal components, this actuator comes unassembled and unprimed for your convenience. No need to waste time taking apart an actuator or risk losing important parts. Once you have the actuator welded in place, prime and paint it to match your application.
Adjustable Channel Design
The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 3 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.
This actuator is great for tall trailers. This is because the adjustable channel is positioned so that the mounted coupler can sit below the actuator tube, allowing for a greater drop than with a standard center-mounted channel. As a result, you can line up your tall trailer with your tow vehicle's hitch for a level setup.

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, I'm gonna take a look at this Demco Unassembled Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator with the eight inch adjustable channel center position, and has a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this actuator will come unassembled and unprimed for your convenience. And basically because welding can cause damage to the internal components. There's no need to waste time having to take apart your actuator, or risk losing important parts. Once you have this actuator all welded in place, primed and painted to match your application, you can put it all back together.
Now, this is a hydraulic actuator. It'll activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically, what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle deceleration occurs, and the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. And with the surge brake system, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward. Once your tow vehicle starts to slow down.
And when this happens is the inner portion right here that slides in the outer portion this actuator will contract and then master cylinder which will be installed back here will apply force to the master cylinder and this in turn supplies, the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. Want to zoom in on some of the parts here. Over here they have the acetal copolymer lining. This provides a nice, smooth operation as your actuator telescopes in and out. This basically will go on the inside of the outer casing and then allow this to go in and out smoothly.
This does have an adjustable channel we mentioned right here, this has three different mounting positions for your coupler. Now the coupler is not included. We do sell that separately. The high thermis this channel, we measure it's gonna be right at eight inches tall. The inside width of the channel is three inches.
Now this is a heavy duty steel construction has a nice raw finish to it. So it is all ready for welding. The master cylinder right here. It is a composite master cylinder. It's very durable and efficient. It's made of a glass reinforced nylon construction resist rust and corrosion. You notice has a very large reservoir provides increased capacity for the break fluid and up at the top is a standard automotive style diaphragm cap which creates a completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of your break fluid. Now, this does also offer the breakaway cable and hook is all included. Now this part is required by law and the reason is it'll prevent a trailer runaway situation. What this does is this cable that attaches to the lever that'll be in the brake actuator and then you have your hook and keeper right here. This'll attach after you attach your trailer to your tow vehicle then you attach this cable with the hook to the tow vehicle also. And by chance, if this trailer would come disconnected from your tow vehicle, that cable would pull on the lever which again would activate the master cylinder. And then the pressure applied to the brakes to stop a trailer in a runaway situation. We mention it's a well done installation. It is designed to mount to a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. These parts are made in the USA application. This is for trailers with hydraulic drum breaks. The gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity is 2,000 pounds. And one last note I do wanna mention is because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout. It is recommended that you equip your trailer with either a reverse lockout solenoid that usually installs onto the brake line that goes into your master cylinder. Or you can get, make sure you have free backing brakes on your trailer so that your trailer can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes. But that should do it for the review on this Demco Unassembled Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator with the eight inch adjustable channel center position and a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity..
