Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
Adjustable Channel Design
The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 3 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.

The glass reinforced nylon construction, which resists rust and corrosion. It has a very large reservoir to provide increase capacity for the brake fluid. And if you notice at the top here they use an automotive style diaframe 00:00:41 cap, which will create a completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of the brake fluid. On the inside of this they use acetal inaudible 00:00:48 lining. It provides a nice smooth operation as the actuator will telescope in and out. If you notice it does include this breakaway cable at the top here.
It has a snap hook on the end. It ensures a secure connection to your breakaway lever. This is a heavy duty steel construction. You can see it has a nice prime finish to it. It is a weld on installation.
This part is made in the USA. Application again, this is for trailers with hydraulic drum brakes. Gross towing weight capacity is 12,500 pounds. Maximum tongue weight is 1,250 pounds. The channel width on this adjustable channel up front is, inside to inside, is right at 3".
Channel height from the very bottom to the very top is 8". This is designed to mount on a straight 3" wide trailer top. This actuator also goes by the model number of DA10. But that should do it for the review on the Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes with the adjustable channel center design and a 12,500 weight capacity.
