Roller Bunks

CE Smith's roller bunks convert your boat trailer's guide-ons from bunk board style to roller style. Instead of sliding on and off your trailer's bunk boards, your boat will smoothly roll. This not only simplifies the loading and unloading process, but it also protects your boat's hull against scratches. Mounted in a rust-resistant galvanized steel channel, the durable rubber rollers absorb road shock during trailering.

Installation

The roller bunks are pre-assembled and can be mounted directly to your existing bunk boards (mounting hardware is sold separately). If you want to replace your bunk boards and attach the roller bunks to the front and rear crossmembers of your trailer frame, use a four-pack of swivel mounting brackets (CE10003G-4 - sold separately). These brackets allow you to install the roller bunks at different heights. In addition, the brackets enable the bunks to tilt to accommodate and support boat hulls of different sizes.

Galvanized Steel

Steel parts are galvanized by being hot-dipped in zinc after they have been stamped. This creates a coating that is typically 3 mil to 5 mil thick. This thick, all-around coating allows galvanized steel products to provide years of use without rusting or corroding.

Video Transcript for CE Smith Roller Bunks for Boat Trailers Review

Today on our boat trailer we're going to review and install the C.E. Smith roller bunks, Part Number: CE27710. This is our 5' long, 6 roller bunk. It's also available in a 4' long, 5 rollers, Part Number: CE27700. Now here we are with our boat trailer in the water and we've got the standard boards. Now to launch our boat especially when you're doing it by yourself can be difficult because you got to push the boat off. I'm in the water and it's not very easy.

Now let's go ahead and see what the difference is with our C.E. Smith rollers. As you can see with the rollers installed, the boat simply slides off. You almost don't even need to push it in. Also just as easy as we launch our boat into the water, it's that easy to load the boat back onto the trailer. Now here's what the complete install is going to look like with our roller bunks in place on our trailer.

Each set of bunks will come with two 5' long lengths and 6 rollers with each length. Each set has 3 individual rollers. This is a channel style bunk, so it's a heavy duty 12 gauge galvanized steal construction making it amicable for fresh or salt water. It can attach in two ways, attach directly to wood bunks preexisting or added, or using the C.E. Smith trailer brackets. The rollers themselves are black heavy duty rubber so they'll absorb road shock and protect the hull from scratches loading and unloading.

Our rollers are 4-3/4" wide by 2-1/2" tall. The channel itself is 2-1/8" wide and from the top of the roller to the bottom of the channel is almost 3". Our bunk capacity is 1,500 pounds. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install it. To begin our install, we're going to remove the old or manufacturers boards and brackets. Since we're removing the bunk boards and brackets, we're just going to take the U-bolts off the frame.

Quick tech tip: before you remove your boards, take a tape measure and get the heighth of your board. That way when you install your new brackets and rollers you can set it back to the same heighth. Now as we have the boards loose, we'll go ahead and just take them off the trailer and set them aside as they will not be reinstalled. Next we're going to install the new C.E. Smith bracket, Part Number: CE10003G. Our bracket will replace the old or manufacturers bracket that we removed. Now to secure our bracket to the frame, we're going to use the C.E. Smith U-bolt, Part Number: CE15283GA. The U-bolt will go around the frame into the bracket and then get secure with a split lock washer and nut. Let's go ahead and put it in place now. Now as we install our fasteners we're just going to install them finger tight this time. Keep in mind when you tighten down your U-bolt, make sure you tighten down both sides evenly. Once we have our bracket installed we'll go ahead and tighten it down. All right, now here on our rear support or rear portion of our frame, we're going to go ahead and install our bracket and U-bolt. Our bracket and U-bolt are going to sit in the exact same position as the old or manufacturers bracket. Then again to secure it we'll use a split lock washer and hex nut on each side of our U-bolt. Remember when tightening down your U-bolt, make sure you tighten down both sides evenly. Now we'll go ahead and repeat the same process for the remaining brackets. We'll now go ahead and take the roller bunk, set it onto our brackets, and secure the bunk to the brackets. Now when securing your bunk to the brackets the hardware is not supplied. I'm going to use a bolt and flat washer. It's going to go down through the roller bunk then though the bracket, and underneath I'm going to add another washer and a nylon lock nut. Now once we have all our hardware in place we can tighten it down. And that'll do it for our review and install of the C.E. Smith roller bunks for boat trailers, Part Number: CE27710 on our boat trailer.

The products purchased were solid and of good quality. I'm impressed. We purchased a used Jon boat and are upgrading the trailer and boat to for our satisfaction. We would not hesitate to purchase other products for etrailer. The videos were very helpful and informative. If I can I will add photos of before and after, soon. 669775

I have a Triton trailer and it is almost 7’ between the braces so the longest set of rollers still won’t span to the supports. I had to mount the rollers on runner boards so it doesn’t eliminate the wood and made the installation much more difficult. I will try it out tomorrow when I load the boat back on. The rollers were delivered really quickly and were in perfect shape so 5 stars to etrailer on that part. 580669

A couple of the lakes I fish regularly have shallow ramps so Roller Bunks should make launching and retrieving my boat somewhat easier. Changing from basic Bunk Boards to Roller Bunks on my C.E. Smith Sport Utility Trailer was an easy process. Even though it was an option I chose not to mount the Roller Bunks directly onto the Bunk Boards but instead to remove the boards and mount the rollers directly to the frame. I used the same Bolsters I already had mounted with the Bunk Boards but removed the swivel bracket with two holes and replaced them with single hole brackets that fit the Roller Bunks. I did however have to drill one hole in each Roller Bunk frame in order to line up with the holes in the front swivel brackets. A slight adjustment of the bolsters toward each other was necessary so the Roller Bunks would be centered under my boat in the proper location. I have not launched my boat yet but it certainly moves more freely with the Roller Bunks. 518547

Comments

It’s been about a year since I replaced the bunk boards on my C.E. Smith Sport Utility Trailer with roller bunks and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. My boat is so much easier and quicker to unload and load. However, you have to be careful not to detach the winch strap without someone holding onto or tying off a mooring line before you back the trailer down a ramp into the water as the boat will roll off the trailer and float out of reach. Duh!!! Something it wouldn’t so easily do on bunk boards. That describes just how easy it is to launch and retrieve your boat using roller bunks. Fortunately, the wind was blowing in exactly the right direction to bring the boat back to the doc. A cold swim was the only other option since no one else was on the lake. A valuable lesson learned!

  • How To Convert a Boat Trailer from Center Rollers to Bunk Rollers
  • Yes, it is possible to switch from center rollers to bunk rollers on a boat trailer. For this, you will first need to remove the center rollers and then you can install a set of bunk rollers, part # CE27710 along with part # CE10000G-4 to support the hull. Then, in order to support both the port and starboard sides you can use part # CE27600. I have attached a photo of a similar setup with bunk boards instead of bunk rollers for the hull. • Roller Bunk Recommendations for Replacing 13.5 feet of Roller Bunks
  • I'd probably do two sets of 5 foot bunks like part # CE27710 and just allow the amount of gap needed between the two bunks. There are 6 rollers per section on both. Both are made with galvanized steel and heavy duty black rubber rollers. If the space is more than that, the 5 foot long bunks will not be enough and you can then obtain two sets of 4 foot bunks and have them cut to size. Therefore I recommend using the same size that the trailer came with but it wouldn't hurt to go a bit longer if you have room. • Can 2 Roller Bunks be Added to Trailer In a Line without Weight of Boat Flexing them at Junction
  • It depends on how you have them mounted to the trailer. If you attach them directly to the bunk boards then the boards will fully support the rollers and the two sections will not flex. If you remove the wooden bunks and mount them with brackets then they could flex depending on where you have the brackets mounted and where you place the brackets. There aren't 8 foot long sections available so to get 8 feet you would have to put 2 of the 4 foot sections in a line.
