Galvanized Steel

Steel parts are galvanized by being hot-dipped in zinc after they have been stamped. This creates a coating that is typically 3 mil to 5 mil thick. This thick, all-around coating allows galvanized steel products to provide years of use without rusting or corroding.

Video Transcript for CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies Review

Today we're going to take a look at the CE Smith bolster bunk bracket, part number CE10003G. The bracket is stamped and galvanized, giving it a 3 to 5 millimeter coating. This makes it applicable, even in salt water, to resist rust and corrosion. On the side that faces the trailer, it's dimpled, so that it will grip the steel of the trailer, and doesn't slide or shift around. The top bracket will swivel, allowing the roller bunk to conform to the boat's hull. Another really nice feature, it only takes one u-bolt to secure it to your boat trailer. The overall height of our bracket is 11 inches. The adjustability is 10 inches, and it's 2 and a half inches wide.

This is a heavy duty bracket made of 11 gauge galvanized steel, making it perfect for your boat trailer application. Now, let's go ahead and show you how to install it. To begin our install, we're going to remove the old or manufacturer's boards and brackets. Since we're removing the bunk boards and brackets, we're just going to take the u-bolts off the frame. Quick tech tip, before you remove your boards, take a tape measure, and get the height of our board. That way, when you install your new brackets and rollers, you can set it back to the same height. Now, as we have our boards loose, we'll go ahead and just take them off the trailer and set them aside, as they will not be reinstalled. Next, we're going to install the new CE Smith bracket.

Our bracket will replace the old or manufacturer's bracket that we removed. Now, to secure our bracket to the frame, we're going to use the CE Smith u-bolt, part number CE15283GA. The u-bolt will go around the frame, into the bracket, and then get secured with a split-lock washer and nut. Let's go ahead and put it in place now. Now, as we install our fasteners, we're just going to install them finger tight this time. Keep in mind, when you tighten down your u-bolt, to make sure you tighten down both sides evenly. Once we have our bracket installed, we'll go ahead and tighten it down. All right, now here on our rear support, or rear portion of our frame, we're going to go head and install our bracket and u-bolt.

Our bracket and u-bolt are going to sit in the exact same position as the old or manufacturer's bracket. Then, again, to secure it, we'll use a split-lock washer, and hex nut on each side of our u-bolt. Remember when tightening down your u-bolt, make sure you tighten down both sides evenly. Now, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process for the remaining brackets. Now go ahead and take the roller ball, set it onto our brackets, and secure the bunk to the brackets. Now, when securing your bunk to the brackets, the hardware's not supplied.

I'm going to use a bolt and flat washer. It's going to go down through the roller bunk, then through the bracket. Underneath, I'm going to add another washer and a nylon lock nut. Now, once we have all our hardware in place, we can tighten it down. There you have it for part number CE 10003G. The CE Smith bolster bunk bracket.

  • Comparing Dutton-Lainson and CE Smith Roller Bunks
  • There isn't a whole lot of difference between Dutton-Lainson roller bunks # DL21741 and CE Smith roller bunks # CE27710. Both have 5 foot long sections. Each section is rated for 1500 pounds. There are 6 rollers per section on both. Both are made with galvanized steel and heavy duty black rubber rollers. The main difference besides price is the shape of the rollers is not exactly the same. Either set can be mounted on a bunk or independently. To mount independently you would need...

  • Using Roller Bunks for PWC Ramp & Trailer
  • Roller bunks like the 5-foot Dutton-Lainson # DL21755 and the other similar products shown on the linked page will work best when they are positioned on the trailer or ramp surface in such a way that allows the maximum contact between the watercraft's hull and the flat top surface of the rollers. The fuller and more even the contact the easier the rolling action will be. On a PWC the hull can have many different profiles or shapes. These can include the common V and modified V, and the...

  • Can Roller Bunks Be Used on Tritoon Boat Trailer
  • Roller bunks like those shown on the linked page will work just as well on a 3-hull tritoon as on a pontoon boat. If you intend to mount the rollers onto the flat surface of existing wooden/carpeted 2x4 bunk boards you will want to use a flat-bottom type roller like # DL21741, but we also have rollers like # DL21755 that have a channel that fits over the narrow side of a 2x4. The flat-bottom type can also be directly mounted to bolster brackets like # CE10003G-4 as shown in the linked...

  • I do have a solution for you, however the CE Smith Spool Roller Assembly # CE32100G aren't wide enough to safely support the boat keel of your 18 foot Norwegian Faering. I recommend something a bit wider like the CE Smith Deep V Keel Roller Assembly # CE10453G with an 8 inch roller and mounting slots spaced 6 inches apart. You will want to have one for each cross member on your boat trailer. The only other thing you will need are 1/2" or 7/16" fasteners. I have included a video review...

  • Roller Bunk Recommendation for a Boat Trailer with Wood Bunks
  • The CE Smith Roller Bunks, # CE27700, that you referenced would be a great option for your boat trailer. These roller bunks are 4 ft long and they can be mounted directly on top of your current wood bunks. You can also use the CE Smith Mounting Brackets, # CE10003G-4, if you want to replace the wood bunks with the roller bunks. Keep in mind, these bunks have a weight capacity of 1,500 lbs, but based on your photo, I do not think you will have much of an issue with that.

  • How To Choose the Correct Roller or Carpeted Bunk Boards for a Trailer
  • The size of bunk board or bunk roller you will need for your boat trailer is based off the hull size. However, generally speaking the manufacturer knows what size roller/bunk works best for the boat/trailer. Therefore I recommend using the same size that the trailer came with but it wouldn't hurt to go a bit longer if you have room. If you are switching from rollers to carpeted bunk boards then I would go longer. For the carpeted bunk board option we have part # CE27800 which are 36"...

  • Roller Bunk Recommendation For Boat Trailer Used In Saltwater
  • If you are looking to replace the bunks on your trailer with roller bunks, we have a few that may work for you. For a 5 foot bunk I recommend the CE Smith Roller Bunks, part # CE27710. These are constructed of 12 gauge galvanized steel and are rust and corrosion resistant. Since you said you are needing them for salt water, we recommend rinsing them with fresh water to prolong the life of the rollers. If you need a 4 foot version of these rollers I recommend part # CE27700. To...

These can be mounted directly to the wooden bunks you have already or you can remove them and install them with the brackets part # CE10003G-4. The steel of these buns are galvanized which will do an excellent job preventing rust and corrosion. They would last longer than wood being constantly submerged.

  • No, one 5 foot long section is not enough for the support of your boat unless you will be using a combination of rollers and bunk boards. The CE Smith Roller Bunks for Boat Trailers - 6 Rollers Each - 5' Long - 1,500 lbs - 1 Pair # CE27710 will work well for your 18.5 foot bass boat if you use 2 roller sections on each side. • Can I Remove the Keel Rollers and Add Bunk Rollers to a Boat Trailer for a Smoker Craft Boat
  • I would be apprehensive about completely removing the keel rollers, especially if they support any weight. Removing the keel rollers would force the bunks to support more weight. This could be dangerous with the bouncing affect trailers and boats experience when towing. To make sure it is completely safe to remove the keel rollers without potentially damaging the boat, I recommend contacting Smoker Craft directly because they would be the best source to tell you if the hull of your boat...
