Video Transcript for Review of TorkLift Battery Boxes - Trailer Battery Box,Camper Battery Box - TLA7708RS

Today we're going to take a look at the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box. This is going to work for six volt and twelve volt batteries and it comes with a diamond plate aluminum construction. This is going to be a great option to keep your batteries protected and safe from any theft since the box does lock. But then will also have the solar panel at the top so we can trickle charge our batteries and keep them at full charge while we're traveling. It's also going to come with all the hardware that we need to get this installed and two brackets if you need them to install this on to the front of your trailer or maybe in the back of your truck. You can pretty much mount this anywhere where you need a battery box for your accessories. Now it's going to also be able to bring back our batteries from 50% life and again help to maintain a trickle charge on those batteries so we don't have to worry about them losing charge as we're traveling. The box itself is going to be very sturdy and it's going to, again, have that locking cylinder so whenever that's in the locked position, it's going to have a tab here on the side that keeps everything locked.

Flip the key in the other direction and then we can slide that lid back and open it up. On the backside there's going to be some tabs that keeps it in place. So if you can see, there's those flanges there. That's what's going to actually hold it in to place whenever it's there and then our lock keeps the lid from coming off.In the bottom there'll be a little carpeted area for our batteries to sit on. You'll also notice our wiring connection.

That does come somewhat pre-installed. So we'll already have a fuse connected on there, or a fuse holder. It does come with a fuse. It's going to be a 10 amp fuse. So we can keep all of our electronics protected and on either end of that connection, for our power and ground, we'll have the ring terminals already attached and with some heat shrink on there so those should be good to go.That's going to run into our plug on the backside or the side there to connect in to your accessories, or to connect in to the other end of our solar panel.

So solar panel connects into here, these attach to your batteries, everything gets charged up. At the back, there's going to be a hole with a plastic grommet there so you can run your power wires out of the box. We'll also get a strap with our hardware kit so we can secure down our batteries inside there and keep them from sliding around at all. Now the box itself is going to have a dimension of 26 and 3 quarters of an inch long and 8 and 3 quarters of an inch wide and it's going to be 12 and 11/16ths of an inch tall. The lid on its own is going to be 27 and 3 quarters of an inch long by 9 and 11/16ths of an inch wide. Inside the box will have 26 and 7/16ths of an inch of space going length wise and then 7 and 5/8ths of an inch going the width of the box and will have about 12 and 9/16ths of an inch of space on the inside again. The diameter of that grommet hold in the back, that's going to be 1 and 5/8ths of an inch.

And the power from our solar panel is going to be 10 watts. There is a lifetime warranty on the box, or on the aluminum part of the box. And then we'll have a 25 year warranty on the solar panel and that's from TorkLift. And that's going to do it for our look at the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Box for 6 and 12 volt batteries with a diamond plate aluminum.

Very easy to read directions with everything I need to get up and going. Just add a couple of cables to the mix and I get my two batteries up and running and keep them charged. Will be using it on my R-Pod trailer while boondoggling. Hoping that the solar panel will keep batteries charged when I'm not using the R-Pod. That way, they will be charged when I'm ready to go. Happy to have it lockable so that there is less of a chance of theft of batteries. 381634

The capacity of the solar panel is only strong enough to maintain a 90 - 100 % charged battery. ANY drain (detectors, radio display panel) on the battery, while in storage, will negate the maintaining power. I disconnect my fully-charged battery before storage. 314074

I leave my trailer in a remote location for six months of the year. I wanted the security of a lockable box for my batteries. I purchased the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box, converted my trailer to two x 6 volt batteries and added the solar panel. Super great choice. The batteries are trickle charged when I am away and box is super secure! Installation was easy. I had to purchase two extension arms for the box as my spot was behind my gas tanks. Called the team a etrailer and they quickly the additional hardware. I also called about solar charging of the batteries. This team is super knowledgable and offered a tremendous amount of information. This has been a great purchase and I have shared with my fellow campers too! Thanks guys for all the help! 398868

It has been a super product. I think that the only weak link is the connector from the panel to the outside of the box. That is clearly showing UV damage. I do not know if any of your customers ever used the external female plug to the battery for anything else - I did and found the box is wired backwards based on RED being hot! I did check all my wiring to make sure red is to positive inside the box. Since I dry camp, I bring in 30-40 gallons of water per trip. I purchased a 12v self priming water pump and proceeded to connect the same type trailer connector to my pump Did not want to have to keep opening the box up. To my surprise the pump ran backwards. I used the alligator clips to the battery and the pump ran correctly. I determined that female connector on the outside of the box is not wired with red to the positive. I simply reversed my connection and the pump runs correctly now. Great product. Wish you had a ventilated security box for my honda e2000 generator.

No more wanting to take the travel trailer out and go to find the batteries dead or even worse stolen. I would absolutely say this lockable battery box with solar panel is a great product and very well built. Even before I installed this on my travel trailer the sun was hitting the solar panel at an angle in the garage and I tested the for voltage, (19 volts DC). I was totally sold on the ability of this solar panel, the solar panel was in my garage and not in direct sunlight. Although I could have installed this box with all supplied parts and hardware I took it a step further, cut some angle iron and welded the angle iron mounts on top of the frame. Turned out real nice and looks real nice too! This box looks like it should have come with my travel trailer manufacturer. Very happy costumer, feel secure about the ability to lock up my batteries and they stay charged too! 289329

Thank you for following up on your products. We are very happy with our purchase and so glad that your products are such good quality. Have had many camping friends ask questions about were we purchased our secure battery box and we just had to share! As we travel around the state parks and camp grounds we always have people asking us were we got this setup, hope this helped your sales go up. We just know everyone is as happy as we are and thank you again for such a nice product!

I highly recommend the TorkLift Solar Locking Battery Box TLA7708RS. It is well made and protects your batteries from theft. The solar panel maintain a charge as advertised. Changes I would suggest are upgrading the 4 screws on the solar wire entrance port to stainless steel, and providing foam inserts to keep the batteries in place once installed. The battery tie downs provided won't keep the batteries from shifting if travailing on rough roads. I used marine grade connectors/shrink wrap, high end battery jumpers, and wire looms so once installed it is a "forget about it" project until the batteries require replacement down the road. A wire kit providing these items and lengths of various gauge wire would be a good product option for this box. Will upgrade to two 6 volts batteries when these wear out. 184826

Installed this in less than an hour. Good quality, but be warned...the edges around the top of the box are very sharp! The box didn't fit my battery rails as indicated by the dimensions provided, so I had to use a different mounting (alternative provided in the installation instructions). Easily takes two Class 24 batteries. So far not a problem. Might change the lock, since it looks like one of those "everybody" has a key locks. 500594

Review from a similar TorkLift PowerArmor in Battery Boxes

TorkLift's battery box has exceeded my expectations. It houses four 100AH lithium-ion batteries that are maintained by the attached solar panel. The box was installed in minutes on my trailer and locks keeping the batteries safe from theft. The quality of the material and the workmanship are first rate. By using some additional solar panels I can now boon dock for much longer periods of time. 390009

Review from a similar TorkLift PowerArmor in Battery Boxes

Earlier this year I decided to upgrade my DC Power systems on my travel trailer. The project included two roof mounted 160Watt solar panels, 6volt golf cart batteries, and a 2kW AC Inverter. I chose the Torklift 5 battery security box because I needed to fit in 4 @ 6 volt deep cycle golf cart batteries. With this box, which can contain up to 5 batteries, I installed 4 golf cart batteries, and used the divider to create a separate section for my power junction and switch box. This was extra convenient because I wanted a secure space to install the source / disconnect switch and 300Amp fuse for my 2,000 watt inverter. (See pictures) I had plenty of room to install an A/B/Both/Off marine switch, a common bus, and the 300 amp class T fuse block, safely segregated from the battery compartment. The solar keeps the batteries topped off at all times, and the inverter will power everything in the coach except the Air Conditioning (which in Alaska I never use). The Battery box fit perfectly between the twin propane tanks and the forward bulkhead of the coatch body. The securely locking cabinet will prevent theft of the batteries while in storage. Love it ! 529556

Review from a similar TorkLift PowerArmor in Battery Boxes

Purchased a year ago. Great storage and security for my 2 batteries at the front of my travel trailer. Works as advertised. I like the extra storage on one side for my tools and other items that I don't necessarily want to store elsewhere. I put my tools in a large plastic bag, so if moisture gets in (there are some holes on the sides and bottom that are good for air circulation - which I like) the tools don't get wet and rusted. 381825

Review from a similar TorkLift PowerArmor in Battery Boxes

Great company, horrible product!! The slots cut for the lid to attach to are 1 1/8 to big allowing the lid to slid and making it extremely difficult to align. a piano hinge would make more since. The lid is about an 1/8 to small. It's EXTREMLLY difficult to close and almost impossible to lock! The battery tie down is nothing short of a joke!! It very sad as this company normally does an outstanding job. I've been a customer for a 2 years and will still continue to shop here! 323347

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring for Solar and Vehicle Charged Trailer Batteries with Inverter
  • I can absolutely help you with this trailer. First, I recommend using the Epicord 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box - 10' Long # 277-000141 along with ring terminals # 44-5310A. This will easily allow you to convert your 4-way wiring and also add your trailer brakes using # 10-1-1. Then you can use the 10 inch # AKEBRK-35-SA for the 4 hole mounting flange or 12 inch # AKEBRK-7-SA brake assemblies for the 5 bolt mounting flange. For your charging your trailer batteries from...

  • Can I Charge the Battery for a Winch On My Trailer From My 2016 Ford F-150 While Driving
  • I do have a few different options for you, but charging your trailer battery from the battery on your 2016 Ford F-150 while driving is not what I recommend doing. The 7-Way on your F-150 does not have the capability to charge a large enough battery to run your winch. The only kind of battery that it can charge is something like a small breakaway battery. You would have to find wiring that is big enough to carry that much power and run it straight to the battery on your trailer. The first...

When using two batteries, you only need a single 10-watt Solar Panel. If you plan on using one solar panel for each battery, then you would need to use an 8 Amp Regulator # TLA7715 on each to prevent your battery from gassing and over charging. If looking at the back of the 7-Way where the wires attach it is in the 1 o'clock position. But the vehicle side trailer wiring may not be rated high enough to power the jack properly (30 amps). If other things on the trailer are also drawing power from the 12 volt circuit then it could overload it. You would also want to keep the truck running so the...
