Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Torklift PowerArmor solar locking battery box. This will accommodate two 6-volt or 12-volt batteries and is in a diamond-plate aluminum pattern. Part number is TLA7712RS. The Torklift locking battery box is a perfect solution for charging your batteries, maintaining your batteries and also keeping them safe and secure and attached to your trailer so you won't have to worry about the theft. You'll be able to mount this in many different location, whether it's a trailer frame, an RV, camper bumpers, trucks, or just about anywhere else. As you can see, we've got a nice large solar panel here.

This is going to create 10 watts of charging power for us, so when we've got two batteries or a single battery in here that's going to be able to charge up any batteries that have about 50% life in them yet. It will bring those up to a full charge. It's also going to trickle charge or maintain your batteries while you've got them stores. That way we can maximize the life. Now the kit's also going to come with two battery straps that you're going to need to hold down your dual batteries. We're using a single setup here so we've just got the one installed.

That's going to hold in place nicely as we're traveling. We've got four slots in the bottom of the box that will allow our battery straps to go down and through. We've got a very large opening here in the rear that allows for all of our wires to pass through even solid larger battery terminals. Another function of those slots and this larger hole is to provide proper ventilation for our battery so we don't have any issues. Now we've got heavy gauge bright tread aluminum diamond-plate, as you can see here. It's very lightweight and rust-proof.

Our full frame all the way around and our lid is going to be a black powder-coated finish. It's going to be very rugged and very durable. Now they stand behind their products very well at Torklift, too. The box itself is going to offer us a lifetime warranty, so we're never going to have to worry about that. The solar panel they give you a 25-year warranty on it, so they really believe in their products. Now that we've gone over our features let's take a look at how to get our box installed.

We're going to be using a single battery setup. The first step we're going to do is take our battery strap, place it down through the slots in the bottom of the box. Now there is a felt pad here. This felt pad is used to cushion your battery while we're driving around. As you can see, we've cut four small slits on it. These are going to match the four slits on the bottom of the box that allow the straps to come through. We'll just slide this down through the pad and through the slit and then right back up through here on the other side. Now on the way back up you may need to just lift that pad up a little bit, help push it through. It's a snug fit but that's going to be nice for any dirt or debris or anything like that that wants to get up through those slits. Now that we've got that run through let's just set it down here where we're going to be installing it. Now these could be put any number of places. In our case today we're going to mount it right here between the a-frame. This is just for position purposes just so you can get an idea of size. We're not actually going to be physically mounting it for the demo today. These can also be mounted on the underside. You can mount these on the rear bumpers. Really it's a limitless possibility. You can even put them right in the back of your pickup truck if you'd like. With it in place so we know where we want it, now let's place our battery in. Then we'll bring our strap around and we'll secure it. We'll just place the tag end through the middle gap and then push it right back through that outside slot. Then we can pull it down tight. If you notice there it rested on that handle. I like to get it behind the handle or underneath the handle so if it slips off there we're not going to lose that tension. The extra we can just tuck down here out of the way. Nice clean look, our battery is secure. As far as the wires go we've got a large opening right here in the backside, plenty large enough for a standard battery terminal to come right through just like that. Now let us start making our connections. As we put our positive side on or we put our power wire on we also want to install the small piece of wire that has the ring terminal, the quick disconnect, and the inline fuse holder. That will be placed right on our power. We'll tighten that down. Now we'll bring out our pigtail and we'll run the black side that also already has the ring terminal on it over to the ground side on our battery. As you'll see, we've got all the mounting hardware that we're going to need to get this affixed onto our trailer. We also have a couple of plates. Now these plates are going to make it nice for tying into maybe the frame rail of our trailer or wherever we need that additional support. They're slotted to give us plenty of mounting options. We could bring them right here along the side, whatever's going to work best in your particular situation. Now for our final connection we'll hook up our quick disconnect here. That will be the last one you want to do. The last thing you want to do is connection power into our source. Now these wires that we've connected, those are going to run right over to the solar charger to that quick disconnect. If you're running your batteries in series or if you're going to run two 12-volt batteries and tie them in to make a 24-volt system, the black wire you want coming out on your ground terminal post and your power wire you'll want to be on the power wire that runs out to your camper. Now for securing our batteries we just place our locking lid down and on. Then we'll push it towards the lock side just like that. Turn our key. As you see, our battery box is secure. Then we'll just make our quick connection here and that's going to allow us to run that power coming from our solar panel right into our batteries. Now that we've got our battery installed and secured, that will complete today's look at the Torklift PowerArmor solar locking battery box, part number TLA7712RS. .

This box was very easy to install on my 2016 Shadow Cruiser 24' trailer. The box barely fit between the rails on the battery tray, which made the installation very easy. I had to take some seamers and open up the angle a little bit for it to fit in there. It worked out though, because it is nice and snug in the battery tray. The instructions were very helpful with offering 3 other options on how to install the box if it won't fit in the battery tray on your specific trailer, and it provides very good hardware for each option. The instructions also have a very easy to read wiring diagram for using one or two 12 volt batteries or two 6 volt batteries. I'm excited to use the solar trickle charger on my two new 6 volt golf cart batteries. The two 6 volt batteries fit inside the box perfectly, and there was enough room to move them to one side so you could stick your hand down in the bottom of the box to grab the battery hold down straps. I'm thinking I will be very happy with this battery box.

Easy to install. So far it is working great. Have 2 12 volt batteries installed inside for my camper. and I will see if it is really working in a couple weeks when I go back to check on it and hopefully my batteries will not be dead.

I am very happy with this purchase. I rent my trailer out on outdoorsy and this past season I had several complaints about not enough battery power. Well this is part of the solution.

I have a Rockwood Roo with a residential fridge, starlink, TV, etc we refuse to disconnect from the internet so more battery bank is a must.

I installed 4 of the Interstate 6v AGM deep cycle batteries for 420 amp hours.

This box is sturdy and easy to install, looks great too.

I leave my trailer in a remote location for six months of the year. I wanted the security of a lockable box for my batteries. I purchased the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box, converted my trailer to two x 6 volt batteries and added the solar panel. Super great choice. The batteries are trickle charged when I am away and box is super secure! Installation was easy. I had to purchase two extension arms for the box as my spot was behind my gas tanks. Called the team a etrailer and they quickly the additional hardware. I also called about solar charging of the batteries. This team is super knowledgable and offered a tremendous amount of information.

This has been a great purchase and I have shared with my fellow campers too!

Thanks guys for all the help!

No more wanting to take the travel trailer out and go to find the batteries dead or even worse stolen. I would absolutely say this lockable battery box with solar panel is a great product and very well built. Even before I installed this on my travel trailer the sun was hitting the solar panel at an angle in the garage and I tested the for voltage, (19 volts DC). I was totally sold on the ability of this solar panel, the solar panel was in my garage and not in direct sunlight. Although I could have installed this box with all supplied parts and hardware I took it a step further, cut some angle iron and welded the angle iron mounts on top of the frame. Turned out real nice and looks real nice too! This box looks like it should have come with my travel trailer manufacturer. Very happy costumer, feel secure about the ability to lock up my batteries and they stay charged too!

by:

I would have given this 5 stars but the measurements are very misleading and the description lacking. Everywhere it says the measurements are 32x10 1/2x 12 1/4. That is the OUTSIDE measurement. The inside measurements are 30.7x 7.7x 11.7. The battery compartment is split by a bar. What this really holds is 2 group 24 size batteries. Thats it. I was trying to fit a 9 inch wide 200ah battery that is 9”wide. It’s a great box and I’m buying 2 group 24 batteries.

TorkLift's battery box has exceeded my expectations. It houses four 100AH lithium-ion batteries that are maintained by the attached solar panel. The box was installed in minutes on my trailer and locks keeping the batteries safe from theft. The quality of the material and the workmanship are first rate. By using some additional solar panels I can now boon dock for much longer periods of time.

Works as advertised. A good match for the trailer it's mounted on.

by:

Perfect. Compact, sturdy, safe, and easily fit onto my trailer A-frame. exactly what I was looking for at a reasonable price. My two 6-volt batteries, with water filling system fit with ease. Thanks

by:

This battery box worked out perfectly. Greg was awesome in helping me figure what I needed. Just to help clarify, the box does come with a 8amp power regulator. It's hidden under the solar panel and you have to remove the panel from the lid to see it, otherwise you would not know it's there.

by:

Was able to finely mount the Battery Storage Box on my RV Trailer. Had weld a couple of angle iron pieces on the top of the frame. Very pleased with the finished product

by:

This thing is absolutely great! It is mounted on the boat trailer - the battery for the boat winch lives in it. The solar panel provides necessary amount of charge to keep the battery full even with daily usage. Highly recommended!

by:

Excellent service and response. I had my order in a couple of days. Everything was as advertised. (as always). The battery box works perfectly for our use.

by:

I highly recommend the TorkLift Solar Locking Battery Box TLA7708RS. It is well made and protects your batteries from theft. The solar panel maintain a charge as advertised. Changes I would suggest are upgrading the 4 screws on the solar wire entrance port to stainless steel, and providing foam inserts to keep the batteries in place once installed. The battery tie downs provided won't keep the batteries from shifting if travailing on rough roads. I used marine grade connectors/shrink wrap, high end battery jumpers, and wire looms so once installed it is a "forget about it" project until the batteries require replacement down the road. A wire kit providing these items and lengths of various gauge wire would be a good product option for this box. Will upgrade to two 6 volts batteries when these wear out.

by:

I had been looking for a quality propane tank lock and this one is exactly as described. The lock is robust and allows you to lock two propane tanks and a regulator with the lock and built in key.

by:

Very durable battery box. Easy to install. Been using it for over a year now, and winch battery has stayed charged - so the solar charger must be working!

by:

This thing is perfect. Mounting it was a breeze. I have two 12v lithium batteries and a kill switch inside. Everything fits perfectly. I'm thinking about upgrading to the larger unit that will hold four batteries as we have a residential fridge. On the fence with the solar panel. It just isn't in a good spot for a lot of sunlight.

by:

Box works great, but it will not shut properly and allow
It to be locked. The tabs are not correctly cut out and welded. Luckily it is being used on my property and not a movable trailer so I don’t have to worry about it being stolen.

by:

I paid quite a bit extra by choosing the battery box with the solar panel included. I understand that being the size panel it is, it would not supply an abundance of charge to my two camper batteries, however, I did expect it to at least keep a small trickle on my batteries. The box is great, however don’t be fooled by the overpriced solar option. It did absolutely nothing for my batteries. I actually no longer even connect the panel as it is useless.

by:

Installed this in less than an hour. Good quality, but be warned...the edges around the top of the box are very sharp!

The box didn't fit my battery rails as indicated by the dimensions provided, so I had to use a different mounting (alternative provided in the installation instructions).

Easily takes two Class 24 batteries. So far not a problem. Might change the lock, since it looks like one of those "everybody" has a key locks.

by:

The product is nice but it did take some work on my part to make it fit my toy hauler. It solved 2 problems for me, locking my batteries and maintaining a charge on them.

by:

Good looking box, easy to install on my travel trailer frame. Got the solar panel, and it's great at keeping my batteries charged up. Great product.

by:

The capacity of the solar panel is only strong enough to maintain a 90 - 100 % charged battery. ANY drain (detectors, radio display panel) on the battery, while in storage, will negate the maintaining power. I disconnect my fully-charged battery before storage.

by:

Works Excellent. Installed as Instructions stated to the Letter. Fabrication will be required. Limited space, to hold batteries in place may need to use, lifting tool to aid in the battery installation. Isolate the Batteries from touching the sides of the inside of the box and shorting out, driving over uneven road. But This Box looks and work Beautifully. The Solar-Cell does Great Job too!
